Valentine's Day: 10pm-6am curfew still in force

Cross River state government wishes to remind fun seekers and fun lovers in the state, that as they join the rest of the world in celebrating St. Valentine's Day, that the 10pm- 6am curfew imposed in the state for security reasons is still very much in force.

While wishing Cross Riverians happy Valentine's Day, government wishes to appeal for voluntary compliance in order to consolidate on the huge gains it has made so far in securing lives and property of the people.

Additionally, government implores Cross Riverians and everyone in the state to adhere fully to the COVID-19 protocols while they celebrate.

It should be noted that security personnel will be out on the streets to enforce both the curfew and observance of Covid-19 protocols.

PRESIDENT BUHARI IN DAURA ON A FOUR-DAY OFFICIAL VISIT

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Daura, his hometown, at the start of a four-day official visit.

He was welcomed on arrival at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina by the Governor, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and the Chief Judge.

In Daura, the Emir, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, led District Heads and traditional title holders to receive the President at the Helipad.

In the course of his stay in Daura, he is expected to, among other engagements, participate in the All Progressives Party, APC membership registration and revalidation exercise.

The President considers this exercise as a very important one for the nation’s democracy and its yearning for good leadership as a requirement of the process of nation building.

In a broadcast last week, President Buhari urged “all good people,” not only to speak but to rise up and “get involved in the task of improving their society,” adding that “for most citizens, their greatest weapon is their vote. Register now for your Party and register when the time comes for elections.”

The President is expected to return to the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

Yesterday, I received the newly posted Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, at Government House, Calabar.

We had a good interaction. He is a young man with so much energy and ideas. He is no stranger to the nooks and crannies of the state as he was previously the commander of Mopol 11 In the State.

He has an understanding of our security architecture and has given words of commitment to immediately key into the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery and other forms of crimes through the state's special security outfit, “Operation Akpakwu”
