GOVERNMENT OF CRS SALUTES UCTH
By Carolyn Ugbor
The government of Cross River State salutes the resilience of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital leadership in regularly attracting interventions from corporate bodies to enhance health care delivery in the State.
Making this commendation, was the Hon Commissioner for Commerce, a former Director of Administration and Secretary to Board of the Hospital, Mrs RoseMary Archibong Esq, who represented the government at the commissioning of the Neurosurgical and Stroke Centre, UCTH on Thursday 6th April, 2023.
She noted that health care service is no longer only a social service system but must also adopt commercial activities, considering the perennial inadequacy of health care financing by the Governments.
The Commissioner lauded Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas Limited (LNG) for being responsive to the needs of the people through social corporate interventions.
Archibong noted that stable emotional and mind health are essentials in abating strokes and other neurological issues, which ensures the availability of healthy Cross Riverians that contribute to the actualisation of the Governor Ayade led industrialization programs and of course, the “People First”agenda of the incoming government.
With this intervention and commissioning of the Centre, it is believed that influx of referrals to the Center will enhance our Internally Generated Revenue both for the Hospital and the State, she added.
Dr Osagie Ohanire, the Hon Minister of Health who was represented by Prof. Emem Bassey CMD, UUTH, applauded the services rendered by NLNG, saying it is an improvement of access to health care not just to the indigenes of CRS and it's environs but beyond.
According to him UCTH from inception provides health care services to indigenes, neighbouring states and Countries like Cameroun, Equitorial Guinea etc.
Speaking earlier, Prof. Ikpeme Asanye Ikpeme, Chief Medical Director UCTH Calabar, stated that between 2020 till date no Neurosurgical case have been referred outside UCTH and it stands as the only institution offering International Radiology Services within Nigeria.
