COMMISSIONER, WATER RESOURCES COMMENDS FORMER BOARD CHAIRMAN, CRSWBL

The Hon Commissioner for Water Resources, Cross River State, Bassey Mensah, Esq has commended the exemplary action of the former Board Chairman of Cross River State Water Board Ltd, Prof. Godwin Igile for voluntarily returning the official vehicle assigned to him while he served.

This commendation came after the Utility’s Acting Transport Officer, Mr Lawrence Obo, received a Toyota Hilux Pick-up Vehicle with Reg. No. AGL 86 AJ, from Prof. Igile (through his Personal Assistant). At a brief handing over ceremony, the PA explained that the slight delay to return the vehicle was due to repairs being undertaken to position it for efficient service delivery.

Commenting further, the Hon. Commissioner praised “the former Board Chairman for this show of patriotism” and called on other previous appointees of the Board to follow this good example and return all properties of the Utility still in their possession. “We encourage all concerned to toe the part of honour and return all properties in their possession as Government will stop at nothing to enforce recovery if it becomes necessary” he asserted.

The posture of the Hon. Commissioner may not be unconnected with the stance of the previous appointees who have vehemently rebuffed appeals for them to return properties assigned to them thereby subjecting the utility into a dire need of working vehicles, A/C generators, office equipment among others.

COMMISSIONER FOR WATER RESOURCES ADMONISHES STAFF

The Hon Commissioner for Water Resources in Cross River State, Bassey Mensah, Esq has expressed displeasure at the attitude of staff generally towards their duties. He made this assertion in a chat with the media.

He admonished staff to brace up with the task ahead as it was no longer business as usual. Consequently "staff must resume work at 8.00am and close by 4pm as entrenched in the extant rules of service" he said. This implies that defaulters will be served appropriate sanctions.

The Hon Commissioner cited a case where he paid an unscheduled visit to Ikot Effanga Mkpa out-station at about 9.00am and found nobody on duty there. This he described as unacceptable if the ideals of providing potable water to Cross Riverians must be achieved.

He assured that "in line with the People First mantra of the State Government, there will be water supply from the Utility to residents of Calabar and its environs within the next few weeks". This feat according to the Commissioner "is deemed achievable as expert hydro-engineers are already working on the failed plants towards this goal."
