Earlier today, Governor Malam Umar Namadi hosted the National Meeting of the Muslim Intellectuals Forum, which took place at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, New Secretariat, Dutse.

The participants were drawn from across the 19 Northern States of the country.

Among the dignitaries who attended the meeting were: the Deputy Senate President, Barau I. Jibrin; Governors of Kaduna, Yobe, Sokoto, and Kano states; Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters; the Minister of Housing Development, as well as the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly.

In a communique read at the end of the meeting, the participants expressed satisfaction with the approach and progress recorded by President Tinubu in tackling the challenges facing the North, especially insecurity, and acknowledged the many developmental projects initiated across the region.

They unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and pledged to work for the victory of the APC in the forthcoming elections.

GOVERNOR NAMADI: JIGAWA WILL CONTINUE TO INVEST IN GIRL-CHILD EDUCATION

Governor Malam Umar Namadi has said that Jigawa State will continue to prioritise investing more in girl-child education as part of broader efforts to improve school attendance, retention, completion and learning outcomes across the state.

The governor stated this on Friday in Jahun while flagging off the distribution of educational support materials to female students in post-basic schools across the state.

The intervention includes 48,300 school uniforms, 15,000 school bags, 40,000 sanitary pads, 4,000 sets of writing materials and 40,000 exercise books, aimed at reducing the burden of schooling on families and supporting girls to remain in school.

Governor Namadi said education has been central to his administration's development vision, saying investment in the sector was necessary to build a healthier, more productive and prosperous society.

He further said that the state government was combining support for vulnerable learners with improvements in school infrastructure, teacher quality, learning materials and opportunities for girls, while also pursuing reforms to make education more inclusive.

"Our administration therefore sees investment in education not as expenditure, but as the most strategic investment in the future of Jigawa State," he said.

The Governor also stated that the current intervention was designed not only to provide materials but also to reduce barriers that affect girls' attendance and retention, adding that supporting girls' education has wider benefits for families and communities, including improved family health, stronger household income and broader social development.

“In addition, the government has concluded arrangements and awarded contracts for the supply of similar educational support materials at the basic education level. This includes 22,500 sets of school uniforms for junior secondary schools and 11,000 sets of school uniforms for nomadic schools, in addition to other learning-support items such as school bags, sandals, school boxes and exercise books. ”

The intervention also covers Tsangaya and integrated Qur'anic education, with 3,800 school uniforms to be provided for Almajiris in integrated Tsangaya schools through the Tsangaya Education Board.

“Our objective is to integrate moral and Qur’anic learning with literacy, numeracy, life skills and pathways for productive citizenship.”

Governor Namadi called on parents, teachers, traditional and religious leaders, school-based management committees, civil society organisations and development partners to support the effort, stressing that educational materials alone cannot guarantee learning.

"Materials alone will not educate a child. It is the commitment of the family, the dedication of the teacher, the support of the community and the discipline of the student that will convert these interventions into real learning outcomes."

Governor Namadi reaffirmed that his administration will continue to invest in teachers, classrooms, learning materials, girl-child education, inclusive education and Tsangaya reforms “until every child in Jigawa State has a fair chance to learn, grow and contribute to our collective prosperity."

JIGAWA PARTNERS EGYPTIAN FIRM ON DATE PALM AND POTATO TISSUE CULTURE TECHNOLOGY

Jigawa State is exploring a significant agricultural partnership with an Egyptian-based plant research and development company, EFC Plants, focusing on advanced plant tissue culture technology.

This is while Governor Malam Umar Namadi headed a state government's technical delegation to Cairo to initiate discussions on this collaboration, which aims to boost the production of date palms and Irish potatoes within Jigawa State.

The technical and investment mission is part of the State Government's efforts to transform the agricultural sector through biotechnology, improve access to disease-free planting materials, raise productivity and attract private investment into priority agricultural value chains.

During the visit, Governor Namadi and members of the delegation inspected EFC's plant tissue-culture and biotechnology facilities, including climate-controlled greenhouses, cold-storage facilities capable of handling up to six million plantlets, a plant pathology laboratory, sterilisation and preparation facilities, and specialised growth and incubation rooms.

The delegation also received technical briefings on the complete tissue-culture production process, from the selection and laboratory testing of mother plants through micropropagation, incubation, rooting, acclimatisation and greenhouse management to storage and preparation for commercial distribution.

The proposed collaboration would explore the establishment and commercialisation of plant tissue-culture technology in Jigawa State, initially focusing on date palm and Irish potato, and is expected to provide opportunities for technology transfer, specialist training, research collaboration and the production of certified, disease-free and high-yielding planting materials locally.

Speaking on the proposed partnership, Governor Namadi said it was intended to establish a broader technological and investment relationship rather than simply provide planting materials.

"Our proposed partnership with EFC Plants will go beyond the purchase of planting materials. We are seeking a comprehensive relationship that will deliver technology transfer, local capacity development, research collaboration, private investment and the commercial production of clean planting materials in Jigawa State," the governor said.

He further said the adoption of plant tissue culture and agricultural biotechnology would help address some of the constraints affecting farmers' access to quality planting materials while strengthening Jigawa's position in technology-driven agriculture.

"By investing in plant tissue culture and agricultural biotechnology, we will improve farmers’ access to high-quality date palm and potato planting materials, increase productivity, reduce dependence on imported materials and position Jigawa State as a national hub for biotechnology-supported agriculture."

Jigawa has comparative advantages in date palm production, including a suitable dry climate, extensive irrigable land, an established farming tradition and access to major domestic markets.

The State also has the potential to expand quality seed-potato production through the introduction of clean planting materials and modern production technologies.

Under the proposed arrangement, the Jigawa State Government would work with EFC Plants, relevant State institutions, Nigerian private-sector partners and other interested investors, while the immediate steps include a detailed technical assessment, feasibility study, site selection, preparation of a bankable business and implementation plan, and negotiation of an appropriate partnership framework.

Governor Namadi was accompanied on the mission by Dr. Suleiman Rufai Babura, Director-General of the Jigawa Research Institute; Dr. Saifullahi Umar, Director-General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency; and Dr. Abubakar Isa Bamai, Chief Executive Officer of Natay Agro Limited.

The Cairo mission forms part of the State Government's broader effort to bring science, technology and private investment into agricultural production, with the aim of improving productivity, strengthening food security and creating opportunities for commercial agriculture, agro-processing, employment and exports in Jigawa State.

GOV. NAMADI SAYS FEDERAL SEED SUPPORT WILL HELP JIGAWA FARMERS RECOVER FROM DRY-SPELL LOSSES

Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi has welcomed the Federal Government’s intervention to support farmers affected by dry spells and irregular rainfall, saying the distribution of certified improved seeds will help farmers recover lost production and strengthen the state’s food and nutrition security.

The governor stated this in an address delivered by the deputy governor, Engr Aminu Usman, who represented him at the official flag-off of the Seeds for Renewed Hope Programme in Dutse on Thursday.

The programme, implemented by the National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government, is providing certified cowpea, sesame and groundnut seeds to about 5,000 farmers in the state to enable them to recover production within the remaining planting window.

Governor Namadi expressed appreciation to the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the intervention, describing it as timely support for farmers who had suffered losses as a result of dry spells and irregular rainfall.

“Coming at a time when many of our farmers have suffered losses as a result of dry spells and irregular rainfall, this support will help affected farmers recover, replant, and strengthen their resilience while advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda on food security, agricultural productivity, and support for smallholder farmers,” the governor said.

He also commended NASC for fulfilling its mandate in the development, regulation, quality assurance and certification of Nigeria’s seed industry, saying its role provides confidence that the seeds being distributed meet the required standards for farmers.

Governor Namadi said the intervention was particularly important to Jigawa because agriculture remains the backbone of the state’s economy and the main source of livelihood for the vast majority of its people.

“When rainfall fails, the impact extends beyond farms to household income, food availability, rural employment, market activity, and the well-being of families across our communities,” he said.

He expressed sympathy to farmers who suffered losses during the challenging season and assured them that the state government recognised their difficulties.

Under the intervention, 32 tonnes of cowpea seed will be distributed in 3,200 bags of 10 kilogrammes each to 3,200 farmers, while 8.35 tonnes of sesame seed will be supplied in 935 bags of 10 kilogrammes each to 835 farmers. Groundnut seed packaged in 10-kilogramme bags will also be provided to 900 farmers.

The governor urged beneficiaries to make effective and responsible use of the seeds and follow the guidance of agricultural extension agents on land preparation, planting methods, spacing, timing, pest management and post-planting care.

“The Jigawa State Government will continue to strengthen extension services so that farmers are not only given inputs but are also properly guided to achieve the best possible yield results from those inputs,” he said.

Governor Namadi said the intervention fits into his administration’s 12-Point Agenda and broader agricultural transformation priorities, which seek to build a more productive, resilient and commercial agricultural economy that guarantees food and nutrition security, creates jobs, supports farmers, expands irrigation and mechanisation, promotes value addition and attracts private investment.

He also disclosed that the state had recently placed an order for organic fertiliser as an alternative to chemical fertilisers, which he noted also acts as pesticides.

He assured the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and NASC of the state government’s cooperation in ensuring that the intervention reached genuine farmers and produced the intended impact.

“We will achieve this objective by working closely with all stakeholders, including the Local Government Authorities, extension officers, and farmer groups,” he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, the minister of agriculture and food security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, said the federal government intervention was designed to help farmers recover part of the planting season lost to dry spells.

He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the intervention and directed that it reach affected farmers within the planting window.

“Mr President, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, approved this intervention and directed that it reach affected farmers inside the planting window. That instruction is the whole difference,” Kyari said.

The minister said each beneficiary state would receive 32 metric tonnes of certified cowpea seed, 9 metric tonnes of certified groundnut seed and 8.35 metric tonnes of certified sesame seed, with the Jigawa intervention expected to reach approximately 4,935 smallholder farming households.

He explained that cowpea, groundnut and sesame were selected because they are short-duration crops whose improved varieties can mature within the remaining period of the rainy season.

Kyari commended the Jigawa State Government for its sustained investment in irrigation, mechanisation, extension services, improved inputs and partnerships in agriculture.

“Jigawa does not treat agriculture as a department of government. This state treats it as the economy, because it is the economy,” he said.

The Director-General of the National Agricultural Seeds Council, Fatuhu Mohammed, said the council remained committed to ensuring that farmers received quality planting materials through seed certification, quality assurance, variety registration, laboratory testing and regulatory enforcement.

He also commended Governor Namadi for his administration’s investment in irrigation, mechanisation, improved agricultural inputs, extension services and policies aimed at encouraging private-sector participation in agriculture.

The flag-off brings together the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, NASC, the Jigawa State Government, farmer organisations and other stakeholders in an effort to ensure that the certified seeds reach farmers quickly enough to make productive use of the remaining planting season.

The first delegation was from the National Shura Committee of Tijjaniyya in Nigeria and was led by the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Maqari.

The second delegation was from Jam’iyyatu Ansarud-Deen At-Tijjaniyyah, a Tijjaniyya aid organisation, led by Professor Haruna Hadejia.

Both Professor Maqari and Professor Hadejia commended Governor Namadi for his administration’s remarkable developmental achievements across the state, as well as his sustained cordial relationship with and support for religious groups.

NUJ VISIT: GOVERNOR NAMADI HIGHLIGHTS JIGAWA’S PROGRESS IN AGRICULTURE, HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT

Governor Malam Umar Namadi has outlined the Jigawa State Government’s efforts to modernise agriculture, expand irrigation and mechanisation, strengthen agricultural research, and promote technical and vocational education.

The Governor spoke at Government House, Dutse, when the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by its National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, paid him a courtesy visit on the sidelines of the union’s NEC meeting held in Jigawa State Tuesday.

Governor Namadi thanked the NUJ leadership for choosing Jigawa State to host its national meeting, saying the engagement was an opportunity to exchange ideas and showcase some of the development initiatives being implemented across the state.

He also appreciated the positive observations made by members of the union after visiting some government projects and programmes.

The Governor said agriculture remained a major priority of the administration because between 80 and 90 per cent of Jigawa’s population depended on it for their livelihoods, adding that the government had developed a science-based agricultural policy and established institutions to drive transformation across the sector.

“Agriculture is the mainstay of our economy. As of today, 80 to 90% of our people rely on agriculture as a means of their livelihood. So any serious government would like to take care of 80 to 90% of its people,” he said.

Governor Namadi said the administration was investing in irrigation, mechanisation, agricultural extension, research and value addition to make farming more productive and profitable.

He stated that the State had established 60 agricultural service centres supported by machinery, mechanics, drivers, managers and booking agents to improve farmers’ access to mechanised services.

He also highlighted the revitalisation of the Jigawa Research Institute in Kazaure aimed at improving yields and providing farmers with reliable information on crops best suited to different parts of the state.

“We are approaching agriculture differently, and our solution there is to make agriculture a business, not just a means of feeding a family.”

On skills development, Governor Namadi said the State had established eight centres of excellence for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), in addition to seven technical secondary schools, disclosing that the State Executive Council had approved the training of 100 people in India and China in various technical trades to strengthen the institutions' capacity.

Speaking earlier, the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, commended Governor Namadi for supporting the union and for the development initiatives witnessed by members during their visit to Jigawa State, as he particularly praised the administration’s approach to monitoring projects and appealed for further investment in journalism education and support for media practitioners and veterans.

“Your Excellency, today we are here, and I must begin by appreciating you and commending you for the support for this meeting. And it may also interest you to know this is the first time in 12 years we are having NEC meeting in Jigawa State. Your Excellency, we are in Jigawa; you have done wonderfully well in this regard.”

GOVERNOR NAMADI HAILS 2026 HAJJ EXERCISE AS ONE OF JIGAWA'S MOST SUCCESSFUL, ANNOUNCES PERMANENT HAJJ CAMP

Governor Malam Umar Namadi has described the 1447 AH (2026 AD) Hajj operation as one of the most successful in Jigawa State's history, commending the Amirul Hajj Team, the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, and other officials for delivering a well-coordinated pilgrimage while announcing that construction of a permanent Hajj camp will commence before the end of the year.

The governor stated this on Friday at the Government House, Dutse, while receiving the 1447AH (2026AD) Hajj Operation Report from the Amirul Hajj, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hamim Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, who led the state's pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during this year's pilgrimage.

Governor Namadi said the report, alongside independent assessments, confirmed the outstanding performance of Jigawa State during the Hajj exercise.

"Today, we have received the report of 1447 AH, equivalent to the 2026 Hajj operation, from the Amirul Hajj and members of the Amirul Hajj delegation. The report has indicated that Jigawa State is the best in terms of preparation and in terms of conduct. This was really confirmed by the Independent Hajj Report of Nigeria."

He praised the leadership provided by the Amirul Hajj and the state's traditional rulers, saying that their commitment had contributed significantly to the consistent success of Jigawa's Hajj operations over the past three years.

"Your Royal Highness, I also want to use this opportunity to thank all our Royal Highnesses because, for the last three years, they have been leading the Hajj delegation, and the operation has been very, very successful. We have no words to convey our appreciation for your commitment, for your dedication, and for the love of your people. We sincerely appreciate this."

The governor also commended the Director-General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, members of the management team, zonal officers, preachers, and other officials for ensuring quality accommodation, feeding, transportation, and other logistical arrangements that distinguished Jigawa State throughout the exercise.

Governor Namadi disclosed that prudent management of the Hajj operation had resulted in significant financial refunds for both pilgrims and the state government.

"Due to early preparations, due to commitment, and due to diligence, our pilgrims have gotten so far almost ₦44 million, which translates to about ₦58,300 for each pilgrim. Your Royal Highness, this is in addition to about ₦27 million that will also be refunded to the state government."

He described the refunds as evidence of prudent management of public resources.

"Your Royal Highness, this is accountability and transparency at the highest level. Your Royal Highness, the DG, and the management team, we thank you most sincerely for this level of transparency and accountability you have displayed and certainly responsibility."

Responding to recommendations contained in the report, Governor Namadi said the state government had already made arrangements to provide a lasting solution to challenges associated with the temporary Hajj camp.

"Like you have pointed out, Your Royal Highness, our arrangement for a permanent Islamic Centre, which includes the Hajj Camp, is very much on course. In sha Allah, before the end of this year, the project will start. This will certainly give us a permanent solution."

He also assured the Amirul Hajj that the state government would engage the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over challenges experienced with feeding arrangements during the Masha'ir stage of the pilgrimage and would carefully consider all recommendations contained in the report.

"Your Royal Highness, we have noted the recommendations, which are very good and direct. These recommendations will certainly help our Hajj operations if they are implemented. I want to assure Your Royal Highness that these recommendations will, hopefully, be implemented, In sha Allah."

Earlier presenting the report, the Amirul Hajj attributed the success to the state government's early preparations, including the approval of a ₦3.4 billion loan that secured Jigawa State's Hajj allocation, timely registration of pilgrims on the Saudi Nusuk Masar Portal, the deployment of preachers and Centre Officers, and the governor's sponsorship of a special feeding arrangement for pilgrims.

He reported that Jigawa State was elevated to Mu'assasa Field Office Number One in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and received the Best Pilgrims' Accommodation Award from Al-Suada Company, while pilgrims also benefited from free eye treatment provided by a Saudi-based philanthropic organisation.
