Governor Malam Umar Namadi this morning flagged off the 2026 Eid El-Kabir annual meat distribution to the indigenes and less privileged citizens, under the auspices of a Muslim charity organisation, Hasene, a Non-Govermental Organisation (NGO), based in Cologne, Germany.

The NGO has once again partnered with the Jigawa State Government to conduct its annual Eid El-Kabir Qurban meat distribution.

This year, the initiative, which spans 70 countries globally, aims to benefit approximately ten thousand individuals in Jigawa State alone.

Mr. Umar Farouq, a representative for the group, oversaw the distribution efforts where a total of 1,450 cows were slaughtered for the exercise.

Of these, 1,250 cows were processed at the main stadium, with each cow's meat being shared among seven beneficiaries while additional 200 cows were slaughtered at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) site to reach more communities.

Governor Namadi, expressed profound gratitude to Hasene for their consistent humanitarian efforts, particularly in providing for the less privileged during the festive season. He offered prayers to Allah to reward them abundantly for their generosity.

AFRICAN PERINATAL SOCIETY COMMENDS JIGAWA’S HEALTHCARE PROGRESS, SEEKS DEEPER COLLABORATION WITH STATE GOVERNMENT

The African Perinatal Society has commended the Jigawa State Government for the significant progress recorded in healthcare delivery, particularly in maternal and perinatal health interventions, while seeking deeper institutional collaboration with the state to further strengthen healthcare outcomes.

The commendation was made during a courtesy visit by the management team of the Society, led by its President, Professor Aliyu Labaran Dayyabu, to Governor Umar Namadi at Government House, Dutse.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to formally brief the governor on the Society’s forthcoming Second International Congress of Ultrasound and Perinatal Medicine and to seek the support and partnership of the Jigawa State Government ahead of the continental gathering.

The congress, scheduled to be held between August 26 and 28 this year, is expected to bring together leading medical experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, and policy stakeholders from across Africa to deliberate on strategies for reducing maternal and perinatal mortality through innovation, research, and professional collaboration.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Dayyabu described Jigawa State as one of the states making notable investments in healthcare infrastructure and quality manpower development.

He said members of the Society who had visited selected health facilities across the state were impressed by the level of improvement recorded under the present administration.

“We have had the privilege of visiting some hospitals in Jigawa State and have seen the work His Excellency has done in terms of infrastructure provision and deployment of qualified manpower. That is why Jigawa State has achieved significant milestones in reducing maternal and perinatal mortality, and we are honoured to be associated with these achievements,” he said.

Professor Dayyabu explained that the African Perinatal Society, established in 2016 under the International Academy of Perinatal Medicine, was created to promote the science of perinatal medicine across Africa through research, training, and strategic collaboration.

According to him, the theme of this year’s congress is focused on strengthening professional synergy to improve perinatal outcomes through pre-eclampsia screening, prevention, and treatment; enhanced use of ultrasound technology; improved management of pre-term pregnancies; and the application of telemedicine in rural perinatal care.

He also informed the governor of plans by the Society to establish an African Centre for Perinatal Research and Training to serve as a specialized hub for capacity development, advanced research, and improved service delivery in maternal and neonatal healthcare.

Professor Dayyabu appealed to the Jigawa State Government to support the congress and facilitate the participation of healthcare professionals from the state.

He said such collaboration would provide doctors, nurses, midwives, and other health workers with valuable opportunities for training, international exposure, and enhanced professional capacity.

Responding, Governor Namadi welcomed the delegation and commended the Society for its efforts toward improving maternal and perinatal health outcomes across the continent.

He described the visit as timely and important, saying that collaboration with professional associations and researchers remains essential to addressing persistent healthcare challenges.

“Your visit is quite important to us because you are healthcare professionals and researchers. As a government, we always seek collaboration with professionals and associations such as yours because in our effort to improve healthcare in Jigawa State, we need professional guidance and expert engagement,” the governor said.

The governor stated that maternal and perinatal mortality remain major public health concerns in Nigeria and stressed the need for sustained research, evidence-based policy interventions, and stronger professional collaboration to reduce the burden.

He assured the delegation of the state government’s support for the congress and pledged that healthcare personnel from the Ministry of Health and state-owned hospitals would be sponsored to participate.

“We are fully in support of the objectives of this conference because we believe its outcomes will provide practical solutions that can help us further strengthen healthcare delivery in Jigawa State,” he stated.

The Governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustained investments in healthcare infrastructure, manpower development, and strategic reforms aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for citizens across the state.

JIGAWA, CHINESE FIRM SIGNS JOINT VENTURE AGREEMENT FOR MAIGATARI BORDER FREE ZONE

In its continuous efforts to boost industrialisation and investment, the Jigawa State Government has signed a landmark joint venture agreement with the Shandong Hengtai Industrial Trading Company of China for the development, financing, construction, operation, and management of the Maigatari Border Free Zone.

The agreement, which was formally signed on Sunday, May 26, 2026, and facilitated by the Border Communities Development Agency of Nigeria (BCDA), marked another significant step in Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s commitment to transforming Jigawa into a leading destination for trade, industry, and investment in Northern Nigeria.

Established in 2000, the Maigatari Border Free Zone is strategically positioned along the Nigeria–Niger border, making it a critical gateway for regional commerce and cross-border trade within the West African subregion and the wider Sahel corridor.

The project is expected to stimulate industrial activities, attract foreign direct investment, promote export-orientated businesses, and create thousands of employment opportunities for the people of Jigawa State, particularly youths and small-scale entrepreneurs.

Speaking about the signed agreement, Governor Namadi described the project as a strategic and forward-looking initiative aimed at unlocking the vast economic potential of the state through international partnerships and private sector participation.

“This partnership represents our determination to build a stronger and more competitive economy for Jigawa State. The Maigatari Border Free Zone will not only open new investment opportunities but also enhance trade, manufacturing, logistics, and economic integration across the region,” he said.

The governor further explained that the initiative aligns with his administration’s 12-Point Agenda, especially in the areas of economic growth, infrastructure development, job creation, agriculture, and human capital development.

Under the terms of the agreement, the free zone will be developed into a modern industrial and logistics hub with facilities designed to support manufacturing, agro-processing, warehousing, commercial services, and export businesses, while the project is also expected to strengthen internally generated revenue and improve the overall business environment within the state.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Jigawa State Government by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, while Mr Zhang Ying, a Director of Shandong Hengtai Industrial Trading Company, signed on behalf of the Chinese investors.

The ex*****on of this agreement further demonstrates the state government's resolve to deliver enduring value through sustainable investment and structured international collaboration.

JIGAWA SECURES MAJOR $2 BILLION INVESTMENT INTEREST FROM CHINESE INVESTORS

Jigawa State has secured a major investment breakthrough as Hefei Shengwen Information Technology Company Limited of China has indicated strong interest in committing approximately $2 billion toward industrial development projects across the state.

The indication was made by the President and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Ren Mingyong, during a farewell dinner hosted by Governor Umar Namadi for the Chinese delegation at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Dutse, following the conclusion of the investors’ multi-day assessment visit to Jigawa State.

The proposed investment, which is expected to focus on the revitalization of the Maigatari Border Free Trade Zone and the establishment of multiple industrial ventures, is yet another major step in Jigawa State’s drive to attract strategic foreign direct investment and accelerate industrialization.

Speaking at the dinner, Mr. Ren disclosed that the company had carefully studied Jigawa State’s investment climate and was impressed by the opportunities available across key sectors.

According to him, the delegation had seen enough to convince them of Jigawa’s readiness for large-scale industrial partnership.

“We have carefully assessed the business environment in Jigawa State and have seen a friendly and promising investment climate,” he said.

“Today, we have already commenced discussions regarding a joint venture partnership with Jigawa State, and this marks the beginning of what we believe will become a very productive relationship.”

“Our company is planning to bring about two billion United States dollars in investment into Jigawa State,” Mr. Ren stated.

He explained that the company was particularly interested in investing within the Maigatari Free Trade Zone and had already developed plans to establish seven different industries within the zone and other strategic locations across the state.

Mr. Ren further assured the Jigawa State Government of the company’s commitment to building a long-term partnership based on trust, sincerity, and mutual benefit.

“We believe this partnership will be built on trust, sincerity, and mutual benefit, and we are confident that this cooperation will result in a win-win outcome for all parties.”

Responding, Governor Namadi described the investment interest as a major vote of confidence in Jigawa State’s economic vision and reform agenda.

The governor said the development was a direct outcome of the state government’s deliberate efforts to market Jigawa’s economic potential to global investors.

He recalled that during the recent investment mission to China, the Jigawa delegation spent nearly ten days visiting five provinces and close to 40 industrial facilities and companies in search of credible investment partners.

“That visit convinced us beyond reasonable doubt that we had found credible and dependable partners. That was why we extended the invitation for you to visit Jigawa State. We are pleased that you have kept your promise and honoured that invitation.”

The governor stated that over the past four days, the Chinese investors had toured several critical economic assets across the state, including the Maigatari Border Free Trade Zone, the Maigatari International Livestock Market, Gagarawa Industrial Park, and other strategic sites.

He expressed confidence that the investors had seen clear evidence of the state’s seriousness and readiness to support industrial growth.

“I am sure that by now, you are convinced that the government of Jigawa State is fully committed to revitalizing the Maigatari Border Free Trade Zone. You have also seen firsthand the enormous potential we earlier described during our engagements in China.”

Governor Namadi assured the delegation that the Jigawa State Government would provide the necessary support, transparency, and enabling environment required for the success of the partnership.

He disclosed that both parties were set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to serve as the operational roadmap for the proposed cooperation.

He also described Jigawa as a strategic gateway for investors seeking access to Nigeria’s domestic market and the broader West African sub-region.
