PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Enugu State Water Corporation wishes to inform residents of Enugu that the disruption in water supply experienced over the past few days was caused by a landslide at Ugwuakuru, Nsude, along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway.

The incident affected approximately 200 metres of the Corporation's 600mm transmission pipeline.

The Corporation has since commenced emergency works to realign the affected pipeline and is making every effort to restore normal water supply to consumers as quickly as possible.

We sincerely appeal to Ndi Enugu to bear with us during this period as our technical team works tirelessly to complete the repairs and resume normal water distribution.

The Enugu State Water Corporation regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates your patience, understanding, and continued cooperation.

Signed:

ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT TAKES ANOTHER BOLD STEP TOWARDS ENSURING EQUITABLE WATER DISTRIBUTION ACROSS ENUGU URBAN*

The Enugu State Government has taken another major step towards achieving a reliable and equitable water supply across Enugu Urban with the official handover of the project site to Gowask Engineering Limited for the construction of the water distribution network for the Central Zone, Sub-Zone One of the Enugu State Water Supply System.

The project covers parts of Ogui, Asata, Independence Layout, and the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Managing Director of the Enugu State Water Corporation, Engr. Dr. Michael C. Nwachukwu, represented by the Technical Assistant to the Governor on Water, Engr. Nzube Young, thanked God for the commencement of the project despite initial challenges.

He urged the contractor to execute the project within schedule and in strict compliance with the contract specifications, emphasizing that quality remains the hallmark of the Enugu State Government's project delivery.

Providing an overview of the project, the Project Coordinator of the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) for the AFD-supported Third National Urban Water Sector Reform Programme (3rd NUWSRP), Engr. Charles Eze, said the contract covers the supply and installation of water distribution pipelines, hydrostatic testing, cleaning and disinfection of the pipelines, with a completion period of 12 months.

The Detailed Engineering Design (DED) Consultant, Seureca–Weir Capacity, represented by Engr. Alfred Obetan, disclosed that the project includes the laying of approximately seven kilometres of ductile iron (DI) pipes, 120 kilometres of HDPE pipes, the construction of about 1,700 chambers, and the implementation of comprehensive health, safety, environmental, and social safeguard measures.

Responding on behalf of the contractor, Engr. Emeka Agbo of Gowask Engineering Limited expressed appreciation to the Enugu State Government for the confidence reposed in the company and assured that the project would commence immediately and be delivered within schedule and to the highest quality standards. Following the signing of the necessary documents, the delegation visited one of the project sites at Independence Layout, where preliminary site-clearing had already commenced.

The project complements the ongoing construction of the transmission water pipeline from the Nsude Twin Tanks to the Terminal Water Reservoir at New Market, Enugu, reinforcing the commitment of Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's administration to providing a sustainable, efficient, and reliable water supply system for residents of Enugu State.

Indeed, Tomorrow Is Here!

Umezulike Mbah.
