ENUGU POLICE ARREST ARMED ROBBERY AND CULTISM SUSPECT, RECOVER IMITATION GUN, DAGGER, AND ILLICIT DRUGS

Enugu State Police Command Operatives attached to Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), on 26th May 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., acting on credible intelligence, stormed a blackspot at the New Artisan area of Enugu and arrested one Osani Joseph (male, aged 28), of Premier Layout, Enugu.

During a search conducted on the suspect, operatives recovered one silver-coloured gun-like object allegedly used by the suspect to rob unsuspecting members of the public, one dagger, ten (10) wraps of substance suspected to be methamphetamine, and one sachet containing substance suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

The suspect confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, while, discreet investigation into the case is ongoing to unravel other criminal networks linked to the suspect and ensure diligent prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to ridding Enugu State of criminal elements and urges residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the Police through the provision of credible and timely information.

CP GIWA FELICITATES ENUGU MUSLIMS AND CHILDREN ON 2026 EID-EL-KABIR AND CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATIONS, ASSURES ADEQUATE SECURITY

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, felicitates with Muslim faithful and children across Enugu State as they mark the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day festivities respectively. He describes the celebrations as significants for both the Muslim Ummah and children in the State, urging them to celebrate in the true spirit of the festivities.

Consequently, CP Giwa reassures residents of the Command’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, secure, and crime-free celebrations across the State. He notes that adequate security measures, including strategic deployment of personnel, intensified visibility and crime-prevention patrols, and intelligence-driven operations, have been put in place to safeguard worship centres, recreational facilities, public spaces, and other critical locations before, during, and after the celebrations.

ENUGU POLICE ARREST FIREARM REPAIRER, TWO OTHERS, RECOVER FI****MS, AMMUNITION, MOTORCYCLE, AND OTHER EXHIBITS IN SUSTAINED PROACTIVE OPERATIONS

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have sustained proactive policing operations across the State, leading to the arrest of an alleged firearm repairer and two other male suspects for unlawful possession of fi****ms, ammunition, and suspected cultism. Recovered exhibits include three locally made guns, six live cartridges, a motorcycle, and other incriminating items in separate operations within the Nsukka and 9th Mile areas.

On 19th May 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., operatives attached to the Surveillance Team of Okpuje Division, while on stop-and-search duty at Ovogovo in Nsukka Local Government Area, intercepted one Sunday Okwumaji (male, aged 23), a native of Alogwugwu in Igala-Mela Local Government Area of Kogi State. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge concealed in his bag. The suspect claimed to be a firearm repairer and stated that the firearm was handed over to him for repairs by its owner, who is currently at large.

Similarly, on the same date, at about 5:00 p.m., operatives attached to the Command’s Distress Response Squad (DRS), while on routine stop-and-search duty along Abor/Nsukka Old Road, 9th Mile, intercepted a motorcycle conveying three occupants. Upon attempts to search them, two suspects, including the rider, fled, while one Chimobi Ozo (male, aged 27), was arrested. Recovered from his bag were one locally fabricated revolver pistol and four live cartridges. The suspect confessed to involvement in cult-related activities and stated that he and his fleeing accomplices were heading to a secret cult gathering at Ijebuoghene in Udi LGA before their interception.

In another operation, operatives attached to the Nsukka Area Command, while on surveillance patrol along Amaenu Edem, Nsukka, on May 15, 2026, at about 11:20 a.m., observed a male rider who abandoned his ladies motorcycle and a bag and fled on sighting the operatives. A search of the recovered bag led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, four bunches of keys, a tube suspected to be used for taking illicit drugs, torchlight, spanners, and an iron cutter. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives subsequently traced and arrested the suspect, identified as Ekene Alphous Ugwu (male, aged 31), on 16th May 2026, at about 10:00 a.m.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing accomplices, while the suspects will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations.

He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain the fight against crime and criminality in the State and urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive by providing credible and timely information to the Police and other security agencies.

“INTERAGENCY SYNERGY REMAINS PARAMOUNT” — CP GIWA REAFFIRMS AS HE RECEIVES NEW ENUGU STATE COMPTROLLER OF IMMIGRATION

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, has reaffirmed the importance of sustained collaboration among security agencies as a critical requirement for effective security and public safety. He stated this while receiving the new Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Enugu State Command, Comptroller Kalu Ibe Olugu, during a courtesy visit to his office at the State Command Headquarters, GRA, Enugu.

The Comptroller appreciated the CP for the warm reception and existing support enjoyed by the Service in the State, while seeking a more strengthened and robust working relationship between the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Police to effectively tackle emerging security challenges. In response, the CP assured him of the Command’s continued support and cooperation, emphasizing that no security agency can operate effectively in isolation.

CP Giwa further stressed that intelligence sharing, operational collaboration, and mutual support among sister security agencies remain paramount to combating crime and sustaining peace and security in Enugu State. He wished the Comptroller a successful tenure and expressed confidence in the continued cordial relationship between both agencies in the overall interest of public safety and national security.

ENUGU POLICE CARRY OUT INTELLIGENCE-LED RAID ON SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS’ HIDEOUT, DISLODGE CRIMINALS, RECOVER TWO AK-47 RIFLES, SIXTY-FOUR ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION, MOTORCYCLE, AND OTHER EXHIBITS

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command attached to the Igbo-Eze North Division, on 17th May 2026 at about 7:40 p.m., carried out an intelligence-led raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout located within a forest along the Amufie–Obollo-Afor boundary in Igbo-Eze North LGA. The operation, which followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, on sustaining intelligence-led raids on identified black spots and criminal hideouts across the State, led to the recovery of fi****ms, ammunition, a motorcycle, and other exhibits after an intense gun duel.

During the operation, the Police Operatives encountered armed hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers, who opened fire upon sighting the Police team. However, the Operatives responded with superior firepower, effectively repelling the criminals and forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. A subsequent search of the hideout led to the recovery of two (2) AK-47 rifles, four (4) AK-47 magazines, sixty-four (64) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one red TVS Neo-NX motorcycle, and other incriminating exhibits.

CP Giwa has ordered sustained operational and investigative efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to cracking down on violent criminals and dismantling their networks in Enugu State. He urged citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the Police by providing credible information that will aid crime prevention and fighting efforts.

CP GIWA INSISTS ON PROFESSIONALISM BY ALL PERSONNEL OF ENUGU STATE COMMAND DURING TOWN HALL MEETING WITH STAKEHOLDERS AND CITIZENS UNDER OJI-RIVER AREA COMMAND

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, has insisted on utmost professionalism, respect for human rights, firmness, and the discharge of policing duties with a human face by all personnel of the Command. He stated this during an interactive Town Hall Meeting with security stakeholders and citizens under the Oji-River Area Command, covering Divisions in Ezeagu, Oji-River, and Udi Local Government Areas.

Responding to questions, observations, and complaints raised by participants, the Commissioner of Police reiterated that Police operatives on stop-and-search duties are not permitted to intimidate, harass, or search the phones of citizens without investigative justification. He also highlighted ongoing disciplinary proceedings against erring officers, stressing that the Enugu State Command, under his leadership, will continue to ensure that personnel conduct conforms to the acceptable ethical and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

CP Giwa further highlighted efforts being made to address the security concerns raised by participants and urged citizens to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to aid proactive policing. He noted that sustained cooperation between the Police and the public remains essential for building trust and ensuring effective policing of society.

The Town Hall Meeting, held at Wembley Hotel, Oji-River, was attended by traditional and religious rulers, Presidents-General and other community leaders, market and transport union representatives, youth and women leaders, and the leadership of the Oji-River Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). Also in attendance were representatives of other security agencies, Forest Guards, members of Neighbourhood Watch Group, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other stakeholders.

The participants commended the Commissioner of Police for his firmness, proactive policing approach, and for initiating the interactive Town Hall Meeting. Following this engagement and earlier Town Hall Meetings held in the Udenu and Nsukka Area Commands, the exercise will continue in the Agbani Area Command and culminate in Enugu Metropolis Area Command.

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, received the Commandant of the Nigerian Correctional Service Training College, Enugu, Controller of Corrections (CC) Mariam Odachi Mere, during a courtesy and familiarization visit to his office at the Command Headquarters, GRA, Enugu. The Zonal Coordinator of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Enugu Zonal Office, Mr. Uchenna Uchehara, also paid a similar visit to the Commissioner of Police.

During the visits, the Correctional Service Training College Commandant sought the Command’s support and closer collaboration with the institution, while the WAEC Zonal Coordinator requested sustained Police support, particularly in the area of examination security.

CP Giwa assured them of the Command’s continued support and strengthened collaboration with their respective institutions. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to the protection of schools and the provision of adequate security for public examinations through the Nigeria Police Force School Protection Squad (SPS).

“WE WON’T REST ON OUR OARS,” CP GIWA REASSURES, AS ENUGU POLICE ARREST TWO INTERSTATE KIDNAPPING AND ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS, RECOVER FIREARM, AMMUNITION, MOTORCYCLES, AND OTHER EXHIBITS

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, has reiterated the Command’s resolve not to relent in ridding the State of unrepentant criminal elements. He stated this following the arrest of two suspected interstate kidnapping and armed robbery suspects by operatives attached to the Udenu Police Division, in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, motorcycles, and other incriminating exhibits.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Hassan (male, aged 28) and Aminu Usman (male, aged 26), both of Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, were arrested on 14th May 2026, at about 1:20 p.m., at Amutenyi, Obollo-Afor, Udenu LGA of Enugu State. Recovered from the suspects were one Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of .9mm live ammunition, three suspected snatched motorcycles, one mobile phone, suspected charms, one ATM card, phone, a bunch of keys, and cash sum of Four Thousand Seven Hundred Naira (₦4,700.00).

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects are members of an interstate kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate allegedly involved in kidnapping and motorcycle snatching operations along border communities between Enugu and Benue States. Efforts are ongoing to arrest their accomplices, while the suspects will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations.

CP Giwa commended the operatives and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group for the successful operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating violent crimes across the State. He also urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and continue to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
