Giwa Local Government area was created on 15 September 1991, by then president and commander in - chief of the arm force of the federal republic of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida GCFR, out of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. It also a Local Government Area in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Giwa. It has an area of 2,066 km² and a

population of 286,427 at the 2006 census. It has 11 wards as (Giwa, Shika, Danmahawayi, Kakangi, Gangara, Yakawada, Idasu, Kidandan, Galadimawa, Kadage, and Panhauya). These 11 wards were distributed into two constituency known as (Giwa East and Giwa West):

Giwa East
1) Giwa
2) Shika
3) Danmahawayi
4) Kakangi
5) Gangara

Giwa West
6) Yakawada
7) Idasu
8) Kidandan
9) Galadimawa
10) Kadage
11) Panhauya

And also it has 2 Development area Administrative/ Council (Shika Development Area and Fatika Development Area). It located in Northern west of Kaduna State
