GOSIDEC TO PROVIDE CENTRALIZED DIGITAL PLATFORM TO GOMBE STATE BUREAU OF STATISTICS FOR DISSEMINATING OFFICIAL STATE STATISTICS.

The Statistician General, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Dule, and his team from the Gombe State Bureau of Statistics, paid a strategic visit to Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission(GOSIDEC) to seek technical support for strengthening the Bureau’s digital operations and delivery of its mandate.

At the centre of the engagement was the need for a functional digital platform that will make Gombe State’s official statistics, reports and key metrics easily accessible to citizens, institutions, researchers and development partners.

The Bureau also highlighted the challenge of inaccurate information about Gombe arising from reliance on unofficial sources. A central digital platform will help ensure that accurate, verified and authoritative data about Gombe is readily available.

Responding to the request, the Director-General of GOSIDEC, Dr. Al-ameen Barambu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing the necessary technical support, emphasising that strengthening digital government and data-driven decision making falls squarely within GOSIDEC’s mandate.

This engagement marks the beginning of an action-oriented technical partnership aimed at transforming how data is published, accessed and utilised across Gombe State. GOSIDEC is taking the lead in building the digital infrastructure that will enable Gombe State’s data ecosystem to serve government, citizens and development partners better.

GOMBE SETS NATIONAL PACE AS GOSIDEC AND NITDA FLAG OFF DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAMME FOR CIVIL SERVANTS AHEAD OF E-GOVERNANCE LAUNCH.

The Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GOSIDEC), in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA Nigeria), officially flagged off the Digital Literacy Training Programme for Civil Servants across Gombe State, positioning Gombe State as the first in Nigeria to launch a structured digital literacy programme for its civil servants under the NITDA Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative, ahead of a state wide e-Governance rollout. This landmark initiative sets a new national benchmark for digital government readiness and reflects the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, whose administration continues to prioritise innovation, institutional reform and human capital development.

Speaking at the flag-off, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, emphasized that digital literacy has become indispensable for every public servant in today’s technology-driven world. He noted that governments across the world are deploying digital tools to improve efficiency, transparency, accountability and responsiveness, and that Gombe civil servants must be adequately prepared for this new reality. The Head of the Civil Service, Professor Mu'azu Shehu, described civil servants as the engine room of government, emphasizing that equipping them with the right digital skills is essential for a seamless transition from manual processes to smarter, faster and more efficient digital service delivery. He noted that enhanced digital literacy would improve productivity, strengthen institutional performance, enhance cybersecurity awareness, and prepare the workforce to meet the demands of modern public administration.

In his remarks, the Director General of GOSIDEC, Dr. Al-ameen Barambu, described the Digital Literacy Training Programme as a strategic milestone in preparing the Gombe State Civil Service for the successful implementation of the State's e-Governance agenda. He stated that while GOSIDEC is mandated to drive the deployment of digital technologies across government, the Commission places equal priority on developing the human capacity required to effectively harness those technologies. He further explained that the programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills in the use of digital tools, online collaboration, data handling, cybersecurity awareness, digital communication, document management and the responsible use of technology in public service.

Dr. Barambu commended NITDA for its continued support and partnership, describing the agency as a reliable national partner in advancing digital literacy, digital inclusion and institutional capacity. He also appreciated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for providing the leadership and policy direction that have made Gombe State’s digital transformation journey possible. He also reaffirmed that GOSIDEC will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that Gombe State does not merely adopt technology, but builds a sustainable digital ecosystem capable of improving governance, attracting investment and positioning the state as a leader in digital transformation.
