Makinde: I Will Not Be a Political Godfather After My Tenure

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has pledged not to interfere in the administration of his successor after leaving office in May 2027, assuring that the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and his running mate, Engr. Mufutau Open Salawu, would govern independently if elected.

Governor Makinde stated this at the Hijrah 1448 Luncheon held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Governor said leadership should be about serving the people and meeting their aspirations, urging residents to judge political candidates based on competence, character and commitment to public service, rather than ethnic or religious sentiments.

He also called on politicians contesting the 2027 elections to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid rhetoric capable of dividing the people.
Reflecting on his tenure, Makinde said his administration had fulfilled most of its promises and would use the remaining months to consolidate its achievements through projects and policies aimed at promoting development, peace and prosperity.

He said:
“I promise I will not be anyone’s godfather, including Bimbo Adekanmbi and Open Salawu. If given the opportunity, they will be accountable to the people of Oyo State.”

The Governor also commended security agencies for maintaining peace across the state and contributing to the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

At the event, APM governorship candidate Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi expressed appreciation for the support of the Muslim community and pledged to sustain the annual Hijrah celebration and other Islamic programmes if elected governor.

Makinde Commissions 177 Shops, Road Network, Motor Park in Ibadan North-East LG

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has commissioned 177 trading spaces—comprising 69 lock-up shops and 108 open stalls—alongside a motor park, new road network and a modern restaurant at the Agodi-Gate Market, executed by the Ibadan North-East Local Government.

At the commissioning ceremony, Governor Makinde said his administration remains committed to redefining governance at both the state and local government levels through projects that directly improve the lives of residents.

The Governor also directed that roadside traders at Agodi-Gate Market be relocated into the newly constructed shops free of charge, warning beneficiaries not to pay anyone for shop allocation.

He urged traders to report anyone demanding money, stressing that government would always provide alternatives before enforcing restrictions on roadside trading.

Governor Makinde commended the Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, for delivering impactful projects that have restored Agodi-Gate Market as a vibrant commercial hub while improving public safety, transportation and the business environment.

Hon. Akintayo noted that the projects would promote orderly transportation, create jobs, enhance sanitation, stimulate commercial activities and boost internally generated revenue for the local government.

The Governor also called on traders, transport unions and other users of the facilities to maintain the infrastructure and ensure the market remains clean, orderly and secure.

Makinde: Oyo Local Governments Are Functional, Delivering Real Development

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has affirmed that local government councils in the state are fully functional and delivering impactful projects that improve the lives of residents.

Speaking during the commissioning of a 2km road, a modern fire service station, new shops and an ultra-modern car park at Bodija International Market, all executed by Ibadan North Local Government, Governor Makinde said the projects demonstrate that local councils in Oyo State are effectively carrying out their constitutional responsibilities without interference.

The Governor noted that the projects will improve public safety, ease transportation, boost commercial activities and strengthen the state's economy. He also named the newly completed car park after renowned Ibadan warlord Balogun Oderinlo.

Governor Makinde commended the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Seun Olufade, for delivering the projects and urged traders to continue supporting the government's development agenda. He also assured residents that infrastructure development would continue beyond his administration.

The Council Chairman, Hon. Olufade, said the projects would enhance business activities, improve safety and further position Bodija International Market as one of Nigeria's leading commercial centres.

Market leaders and stakeholders expressed appreciation to the Governor and the local government for the landmark projects, describing them as timely interventions that will improve the business environment and protect lives and property.

Makinde Calls for Stronger Government–Faith Partnership, Reaffirms 2027 Presidential Bid

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has called for stronger collaboration between government and faith-based institutions to build a more just, peaceful and opportunity-driven Nigeria.

Speaking at the opening of the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church Nigeria in Ibadan, Governor Makinde praised the Church's longstanding contributions to education, healthcare, community development and moral leadership, describing faith institutions as vital partners in nation-building.

The Governor stressed that while governments provide leadership, institutions such as the Church help shape values, strengthen families and inspire hope. He added that Oyo State's development agenda has remained focused on improving the lives of ordinary citizens through people-centred governance.

Governor Makinde also reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 Presidential Election, stating that Nigeria needs leadership that unites the people, prioritises service above self and creates equal opportunities for all. He called on the Church to support him in prayers, expressing confidence that Nigeria's best days are still ahead.

In his message, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Oliver Ali Aba (JP), urged governments at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, inflation and other national challenges. Oyo Hits 91.2% Revenue Target in H1 2026, Set to Roll Out 50 Electric Buses

Oyo State recorded a strong fiscal performance in the first half of 2026, generating ₦406.9 billion in recurrent revenue—91.2% of its revenue target—while spending ₦345.7 billion, representing 77.5% of its expenditure target.

Presenting the 2026 Half-Year Budget Implementation Report, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, said the state remains committed to prudent financial management, transparency, and delivering projects that improve residents' lives.
He also announced that the state will soon take delivery of 50 electric buses to boost public transportation, reduce commuting costs, and improve mobility across Oyo State.

The government noted that several citizen-nominated projects from town hall meetings are already underway, while others will commence before the end of the year.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Barr. Ayobami Ojo, attributed the impressive performance to improved revenue generation, prudent financial management, and institutional reforms that have strengthened accountability and transparency.

Oriire Abduction Judicial Commission invites memoranda from public.

The Judicial Commission of Enquiry established by the Oyo State Government to investigate and determine the circumstances surrounding the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Esinele and Yawota communities, Oriire Local Government Area, has called on members of the public with relevant information to submit written memoranda to the Commission.

This announcement was contained in a public notice signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Mrs. Olamide Sandra Tella.
According to the notice, memoranda should include any relevant information, facts, evidence, or materials relating to the abduction, covering, where applicable:
1. The circumstances leading to and surrounding the incident;
2. The circumstances of the abduction and subsequent developments;
3. Information on the security situation before, during, and after the incident;
4. Any acts, omissions, or circumstances that may have contributed to the occurrence;
5. The response of relevant authorities, institutions, communities, or individuals to the incident; and
6. Recommendations considered appropriate for preventing a recurrence of similar incidents.

The notice further states that persons submitting memoranda should provide their full names, contact details, and any supporting documents or materials, where applicable.

All memoranda should be addressed to:
The Secretary, Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the Abduction of Students and Teachers in Esinele and Yawota Communities, Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

Oyo Govt Charges Architects to Embrace Sustainable, Climate-Smart Designs

The Oyo State Government has urged architects and other professionals in the built environment to embrace innovative, climate-responsive and environmentally sustainable designs that will build safer, more resilient communities.

Speaking at the 2026 Biennial General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Oyo State Chapter, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, said architects have a vital responsibility to shape development in ways that protect the environment and address the realities of climate change.

He warned that poor planning, rapid urbanisation, land degradation and unsustainable building practices continue to worsen environmental challenges, including flooding in parts of the state. He therefore called for a rethink of building designs to better respond to climate-related risks and support sustainable development.

The Commissioner also noted that while emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence are transforming the construction industry, the expertise, creativity and professional judgment of architects remain indispensable in designing resilient communities.

As part of the event, Hon. Aderinto unveiled a newly acquired bus for the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Oyo State Chapter, and commended the association for its commitment to professionalism and sustainable development.

The President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Arc. Sani Saulawa, FNIA, PNIA, also praised the Oyo State Government's commitment to environmental sustainability and urged architects to continue promoting ethical, innovative and climate-conscious designs.

Makinde Inaugurates Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Oriire School Abduction

Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction of pupils and teachers in Ahoro Esinele and Yawota communities, Oriire Local Government Area.

The commission, chaired by Hon. Justice (Prof.) Mojeed Owoade (Rtd.), has been tasked with establishing the facts surrounding the incident, identifying operational and institutional gaps, and recommending measures to strengthen the safety of schools and communities across Oyo State.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Makinde described the abduction as an attack on every child's right to learn in safety and stressed that while the victims have been rescued, the state must uncover the truth, ensure accountability and implement reforms to prevent a recurrence.

The governor noted that the commission's work is aimed at restoring public confidence and improving school security, not diminishing the efforts of security agencies that secured the victims' release.
The panel has one month to submit its report, with the option of an extension if required.

Governor Makinde assured the commission of the government's full support and urged individuals and institutions to cooperate with the inquiry.
