LABOUR PARTY IS NOT OPEN TO WORKING WITH APC IN THE 2027 ELECTIONS AND WILL NOT COLLAPSE ITS STRUCTURES FOR ANY POLITICAL PARTY

The Oyo State Labour Party has received with concern a discussion on Lagelu FM, Ibadan, where a guest on the programme, Mr. Jeje Ibukun, was quoted as saying that “it is the leadership that will steer the ship of where the party will head to; if APC brings money and they assure LP of good collaboration.”

We would like to state categorically that Mr. Jeje Ibukun is a valued member of the Oyo State Labour Party, but the views expressed by him on the programme were his personal opinions and should not be taken or reported as the official position of the Labour Party.

We therefore urge media houses and members of the public to take note that the Oyo State Labour Party has its official channels for communicating its decisions and positions. Any media organisation seeking clarification on the position of the party should please contact the appropriate leadership or official communication channels of the party.

We would also like to remind the public that earlier this year, the State Working Committee of the Labour Party met and resolved that the Oyo State Labour Party will contest the coming elections and present itself as a credible alternative to the people of Oyo State.

That position has not changed and will not change.

The Labour Party remains focused on providing good and responsible governance to the people of Oyo State. We believe that our party remains a strong alternative for the people of the state and we are committed to presenting our vision, values and candidates to the people as we approach the 2027 elections.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Oyo State Labour Party is not negotiating to collapse its structures into any political party, including the APC. The party remains committed to building and strengthening its structures across the state and preparing for the coming elections.

Our focus is on taking our message of good governance, accountability, responsive leadership and a better future to the people of Oyo State. We will not allow personal opinions, rumours or controversial discussions to distract us from this important responsibility.

The political ideal of the Labour Party is transformative, and our goal is to convince the people of Oyo State through our actions, ideas and commitment that we can be trusted to lead the state into a brighter future.

Oyo State Labour Party remains focused, committed, and will contest the 2027 elections.

The Labour Party, Oyo State Chapter, warmly rejoices with the people of Oyo State on the safe return of the teachers and pupils of Orire Local Government who were abducted some weeks ago.

The news of their release has brought great joy and relief to families, friends, and every well-meaning citizen across the state. Moments like this remind us of the popular words of Mohammed Bin Rashid: "The basic job of the government is to make the people happy."

When leaders remain committed to protecting lives and genuinely improving the well-being of the people, society will continue to experience moments of hope and celebration like this.

We congratulate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde and all security agencies whose commitment, sacrifice, and coordinated efforts made this successful rescue possible.

We pray that God will continue to grant them wisdom, strength, and the courage to always do what is right for the people

While we celebrate this welcome development, we also urge the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to work even more closely together to ensure that incidents like this do not happen again. One of the primary responsibilities of every government is the protection of lives and property. We pray that God will continue to strengthen our leaders and security agencies as they work tirelessly to fulfill this important duty.

At the Labour Party in Oyo State, our commitment remains the welfare and well-being of the people. We will continue to speak up for policies and actions that improve the lives of our citizens because the true measure of good governance is the quality of life of the people.

BRIGHTER OYO STATE BEGINS

Oyo State Labour Party is pleased to announce the successful conduct of its primary elections, held on Saturday, 30th May 2026, at the State Party Secretariat, Molete, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

In line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the guidelines of our great party,
candidates for various elective positions emerged through a consensus process,
demonstrating the unity, and shared vision that continue to define the Labour Party as the best alternative for transformative politics in Oyo State.

We are particularly excited to announce that Sola Kareem has emerged as the Labour Party's gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Oyo State Governorship Election. We are confident that his leadership, experience, and commitment to good governance will resonate with the people of Oyo State as we work collectively towards a brighter future for our dear state.

Alongside our gubernatorial candidate, candidates also emerged for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senatorial positions across the state through the primary election process.

The primary election was coordinated by representatives of the National Electoral
Committee of the Labour Party, led by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Akinpelumi Olusegun Olasubomi, and his team. The exercise was duly observed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), further reaffirming our commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and strict compliance with electoral laws and party regulations.

We extend our profound appreciation to all delegates, party leaders, stakeholders,
aspirants, and members whose cooperation and commitment ensured a peaceful and successful exercise. We also acknowledge the professionalism of security personnel whose presence contributed significantly to maintaining order, ensuring the safety of participants, and guaranteeing the credibility of the process.

As we move into the next phase of our campaign, we call on all members and supporters to remain united and focused on our shared objective of delivering competent, accountable, and people-centered leadership to the people of Oyo State.

The journey to shaping a brighter future for Oyo State has begun.
