LAM’S LETTER TO THE BELOVED
A veil flashed open, and in a tumbling cloud emerged a familiar figure, tall, fair, handsome but young. Draped in a flowing white gown, and floating as if tossed by the heavenly wind, the atmosphere evidences a saintly peace. In the serenity of the flashing moment echoed a fiery voice, unmistakably reassuring. It was Lam’s, the Great Lam.
‘Son, despair not for Allah is always with the truthful and the just’. Take this message and spread it as far as you can. It is my testament, to guide and guard you in tempestuous moments, to reawaken you when you slumber, to remind you when you forget, to reassure you when you are despondent, to fortify you when you are assaulted and to correct you when you make mistake. It is nothing that you have never heard before, I have always shared them with you, and I lived by them. But alas, man is a forgetful being!
As I unfold my hands to receive the document enclosed in a golden envelop bound in a red ribbon in a design of love, my entire frame crackle with trepidation and awe as the figure flashing a broad angelic smile slowly ascend in a graceful slide into a billowing cloud hanging overhead waving contentedly in a manner suggestive that ‘I have said my own’.
With trembling hands in a trance-like motion, I carefully opened the envelope and began to read:
Dear Beloved,
It is with mixed feelings that I write you this letter and it is my hope that the content of this letter will educate you and others about what I stood for should anyone be in doubt. I am glad because with my transition into this other life, I have found indescribable joy and comfort that was promised those who truly believe and do good deeds on earth. It is a promised kept. However, I am saddened by the filtering news about the abyss into which our party is sinking since my transition from the earthly abode. Know ye that no one shall live forever, hence the need for the living to live good before they become like us. It is an immutable law that to each according to his deeds, and as it is it on earth so it is in heaven. Life however, is for the living!
I wish to thank those who made my passage a befitting one, particularly my political colleagues, including those who crossed the political divide to honour me. The fact that you were able to celebrate my exit with such pomp and pageantry should tell you that this other life is a happy one for me. To my family, both nuclear and extended political family, I say a very big thank you. May the mercy and protection of Almighty God be upon you. The prayers and offerings of thousands have been salutary and I breathe the air of all supplications in their soothing pleasure. The prayers and supplications are the best gifts I received and continue to receive in this glorious castle of peace and comfort.
In my sojourn on earth which now seems like a flicker, I bore so many disappointments, betrayal, treachery and unimaginable perfidy with such equanimity that many of you thought me as a weakling but for the love you had for me. But what an elder sees while sitting, a child may not see even by climbing the tallest of buildings. All the same, I thank you for your understanding. But you should not forget that that the prized horse used to excel in running, and the fire used to burn before it became impotent ashes. Am however comforted by the fact that lion does not beget cowards, and the elephant does not beget dwarf. That all of you have grown to discern truth from falsehood and take up gauntlets in the defense of truth is a source of personal joy to me and a clear indication that the future holds a lot of promises as it is only truth that exalts a nation.
My final political battle produced a good fruit that you all now savour with relish, but remember to water the mother tree, and do not forget to sow new seeds for the generation coming to have sweet memories of your exploits. Our victory was not personal; it was a victory for the people. Hence, people must always be the epicenter of your actions as heirs of the political heritage I left. It must be borne in mind always that a people’s government must take a pause when any of its policy appears anti-people, and must rethink such policy no matter how well intentioned. Restraint is not a sign of weakness; it only gives room for further engagement with the people for the over-all benefit of the society. This is the beauty of democracy as opposed to fascism.
Although people say that there’s no morality in politics, nevertheless I say that an assault of morality in politics, national or international is a gratuitous assault on peace for mankind (Tribune, Saturday, January 26, 1991). I therefore enjoin you to exhibit the highest standard of morality in public life. It is not always that the end justifies the means.
Public office is not a place of pleasure; it is one that should extract selflessness, sacrifice, industry and tenacity of purpose (not of office) from its holder. Therefore, be not like those who abandon the primary duty of service in the pursuit of worldly things that evaporate like a mirage. Rather than sit down to real business, some executive heads of state governments in Nigeria seem to be running after shadows and mirages. They tend to forget that one can never succeed in catching shadows and that mirages are always elusive. These executive heads, better known as governors, seem not to understand the real essence of government or their mission in politics and government (Nigerian Tribune, Saturday, November 5, 1983).
I had explained in one of my writings in the past why I write where and what. I need not go over that in any details at present. But I want to restate that I share a similar philosophy of life with the founding father of Nigerian Tribune; a philosophy that that seeks always to promote the welfare of the society and the masses; a philosophy that preaches social justice; a philosophy that wants an egalitarian order in society; a philosophy that extols the truth, justice, fairplay, intellectual brilliance, merit, goodness and fearlessness; a philosophy that frown at mediocrity, graft and corruption; a philosophy that aims at the best for humanity in Nigeria. As far as I am concerned, I do not write to please anybody, no matter how highly placed such a person may be in our society. Those who have been reading me over the years would remember that as a member of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria, I did not spare our leaders in government between 1979 and 1985 anytime any of them appeared to miss the track. I did not write…to praise myself. I write out facts and I express my opinions like any other Nigerian. I often do this at great risks to my life but I believe that Allah is always on my side and will continue to give me adequate protection (Nigerian Tribune, Saturday, January 30, 1987).
My beloved, Allah shall protect you as you queue behind truth when it appears unprofitable. Know that in the end, when truth comes, falsehood vanishes! Let the words of Winston Churchill be your guide, that the truth is always incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
I cherished consistency, so be consistent to our progressive and Awoist ideology. Remember my words that inconsistency in politics breeds incredibility (Nigerian Tribune, Saturday, January 18, 1992). Be consistent and steadfast, and be not of the same yoke with those who delight in political prostitution as an ideology.
My words in this letter represent a synopsis of my political philosophy which should guide you and others. I commend them and my examples to you. Whoever departs from them are certainly not of me. They are the apostates.
Where are Pa Ogundiran, Baba leader-Isamotu Ashiru, Chief Oyewusi, S.A. Farinu,S.M.Akindele, Olaide Abass, Busari Adebisi, Atilade Awakan, Hon Adelere Iseyin,Chief Pekun Adesokan, Baba Onilu Akinyele, Abu Gbadamosi, Goke Oyetunji, Dauda Alawuje, Baba Adekola, M.A. Ayandele Afilu, Mogaji Olorode,Haji Hamed Ayinla, Lekan Kazeem, Chief Jolaoso, Elder Adeola,Mrs Bukola Oni and others? Have they all forgotten my words to them? Tell them that they must not sleep and allow our common heritage to be destroyed by anyone no matter how highly placed. It is not everybody that gets a share of an inheritance that benefit from it. An inheritance that does not enjoy the sweat of labour does not last and soon perishes. May that not be the portion of our cherished heritage. Any prodigal son in our fold must be called to order immediately. It is one of the wise sayings of our people that no one knows when the ants desert their home, they leave the mound intact. The swallow is never seen to peck holes in its nest when it is time to move with the season. You must not allow the termite of time to peck holes in your honour and dignity.
I heard you are about to move with the season into a new political party. Be assured that my aburo, Asiwaju Bola Akanbi Tinubu, my friends, Adebisi Kareem Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba, and my son, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo will not lead you astray. This letter will remind them of my fears, hopes and dreams in the last two years and beyond. My parting words should bring back to them a lot of memories. Tell my friend and confidant, Babalaje –Chief Michael Koleoso to guard jealously the treasure I kept with him. He will understand the message. Tell him this world must not be set adrift in his own time!
Lastly, tell the Ibadan Elders that I have done my own bit of the bargain; the covenant of honour is now for them to keep. I sacrificed so much, including pride to the chagrin and anger of my most ardent followers, all in deference to their choice. Thank God, it has come to past. I have once said and still say that to be so loved and admired by the people of a city reputed to be the most densely populated in Black Africa, not because I have any wealth to spend for them is the greatest thing that can happen to a person of my age and experience in present-day Ibadan (Nigerian Tribune, Saturday, December 5, 1987).
As for those who betray me and wish to destroy the legacy I bequeath unto you, fight them not, but call their attention to the Holy Bible-2 TIMOTHY 4:14 where Paul the Apostle wrote to Timothy thus: ‘Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works’ (Aleksanderu alagbede baba se mi ni ibi pupo: oluwa yoo san fun un gege bi ise re). I shall say no more. They should however be reminded that it is only the curses of the departed that should be feared.
Extend my best wishes to the good people of my beloved State, my immediate family, political associates, the clerics, the Alaafin of Oyo, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Soun of Ogbomosoland, my aburo, Aare Musulumi of yorubaland and other crowned heads in Oyo state that ‘eyin di owo won o’.
Keep the flag flying!

Yours sincerely,
LAMIDI ONAOLAPO ADESINA
ADDENDUM
We have decided to publish the letter from Great Lam as revealed to our comrade because of the difficulties of reaching those referred to in the testament individually. We apologise for any embarrassment, if any. But the lessons of the letter cannot be missed by those who knew Lam and for the generation that seeks guidance in an age bereft of principled men and women.
The imperatives of the dialectics of change beckon on all the good elements across the political divides to come together under one roof in the redemptive efforts to save Nigeria. Those who declared that A.C.N died with Lam got it wrong. Lam is an idea that can never die. As the spirit hovers to berth in a healthy body, we beseech all progressives to join the Reformation Group as we march forward with our leaders into the largest progressive party in the continent of Africa. Soon, ko m’ese a yo,(the chaff shall be separated from the grains) and it shall be discipline, courtesies and the best virtues of progressive politics that will reign supreme in our party. The All Progressive Congress (APC) is the fulfillment of the prophesy of Chief Awolowo that the good elements in all political parties will come together to confront the evil forces that tethered our nation to backwardness and under-development.
The only motive for service by progressives as taught by our leaders is the welfare of the people, and it is on this principle that Reformation Group stands. Chief Obafemi Awolowo told a rally of Unity Party of Nigeria supporters at Iseyin on December 2, 1978: “All I want now from politics is to live for history. To live for history is to live in the hearts of men and to live in the hearts of men is to serve them selflessly”.
Our new party shall succeed because the ideals are ingrained in core progressive values, and the programmes are designed to improve the quality of life of the masses, and to serve the people, whose will is supreme. No amount of money, intimidation or self-adulation can mortgage it. It could take a little while to reach the goal but the revolution has begun. It is our destiny to live good life; it is our destiny that our children have access to standard and qualitative education; it is our destiny to have access to affordable and quality health care system; it is our destiny to be gainfully employed and to conduct our business in peace without harassment from anyone including the government. It is our destiny to have freedom and life more abundant. Unfortunately,as in the words of a great writer, Nicholas Sparks in Message in a Bottle ‘there are winds of destiny that blow when we least expect them. Sometimes they gust with fury of a hurricane, sometimes they barely fan one’s cheek. But the winds cannot be denied, bringing as they often do a future that is impossible to ignore”. Surely, a bright future is in the horizon through the Reformation Group that nobody can ignore. Not even our adversaries!
If we have made mistakes in our struggle to free Oyo state from the tyranny and infamy of the PDP as it seems, in the name of Reformation Group we apologize. Mistakes are meant to be corrected, and we shall do that with your support. We should be comforted by the words of Mahatma Gandhi that “FREEDOM is not WORTH having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes”.
We all learn from our mistakes. Henceforth, we solemnly affirm like the men of affairs and wisdom unanimously agrees that only ‘those who are masters of themselves become masters of others’, and that ‘good leadership involves self-conquest, and self-conquest is attainable only by cultivating, as a first major step… “the regime of mental magnitude”, and not a regime of mental arrogance.
It is a duty for us to fight and eliminate the imperialism of local Caesars and fascist C.E.Os in the political arena as it is a duty on you to fight any political office holder that falls into that affliction.
Some people have criticized our approach with arguments reminiscent of the saying that we should not pull down the house; we are only rebuilding the house being threatened by the flood of ignorance and self-indulgence. As Yoruba will say ‘onile ni o ni gba fun, agbara ojo ko ni oun o n’ile wo’. As the rightful owner of the progressive house, we must set the tone and the tune of conduct in the public sphere. However, for those who cannot fathom and accept our ideological prescription, as Awolowo himself wrote ‘they are welcome to their views, but for the good of the fatherland, such people should steer clear of the affairs of state, and confine their activities to those spheres where their excessive self-indulgence cannot incommode the entire nation to the point of threatening its very life’.
It would be a tragic paradox if we fail to see the maladies that are threatening to our ideology, and allow some political Lilliputians to take advantage of the follies and foibles of few misguided elements in our fold to re-launch their savagely beaten political parties into undeserved reckoning. We do not want to be taken back to the past. Our goal is to take our people into a future of hope and accomplishment and we have a roadmap for this in the cardinal programmes of the progressives which need no further restatement. The translation of the roadmap into action however will require a virile, honest and visionary party leadership who will not sell our birthright for a pot of porridge. The party is not an appendage of government; it is the mother of government. If those in government cannot discharge their responsibilities to the party without attaching conditions, the Reformation Group is ready to service the needs of the party. Afterall, it is our party. We reject the poverty mentality that is being foisted on us. We are a people with pride and dignity.
As we always say, the greatness of Oyo state is a collective responsibility.
Bi oyo o ba dara, kii se adase tokotaya!
Thank you.
Signed

BOLODEOKU OLUSOLA
Publicity Secretary

WHO IS ALEXANDER THE COPPERSMITH IN OYO STATE A.C.N?
The state executive of the Action Congress of Nigeria in advertorials published on Wednesday, 28th January, 2013 in the Nigerian Tribune and The Nation Newspaper of Friday, 1st February 2013 respectively made a feeble attempt at reacting to some of the issues raised in our publication last Monday. The kernel of the rebuttal, which apparently has gone through the refurbishment and embellishment of the state official media, is that ACN Reformation Group is faceless and unknown to the party in the state. While this has been a standard response from the party to serious issues as in the case of the infamous Integrity Parliament, the fact remains that they cannot claim ignorance to the truth of all the issues raised in our publication. However, if they do, we ask them to unburden their conscience and abide by the exhortation of the Holy Bible that “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.
The title of the rejoinder by the ACN Oyo State cannot be more apposite as it underscores the issues that we have been talking about before things get out of hand. And if the lessons of the story of Samson are well taken by the writer, then there will be no need for the response. PULLING DOWN THE HOUSE, THE SAMSON WAY: REACTION OF OYO STATE A.C.N TO THE REFORMATION GROUP no doubt is an interesting piece in literary finesse but lacking in truth which is at the heart of the various write-ups by the Reformation Group. The piece sounds like a sermon from the mountain! While the name of the publicity secretary of our party, adorns the rejoinder as the writer, it is doubtful if our friend, Dauda Kolawole whom we know as a complete gentleman could have written the piece, in fact and in deed for obvious reasons. First, the logic of the rejoinder stood on its neck, while the entire platitudinous endeavour is absolutely counter- factual as we shall show. Nonetheless, we sympathize with him because his predicament is the predicament of many partymen and women (including the party exco) who have been subdued in the defense of truth. However, we need not worry because Dada (a dreadlocker) may be weak, but he has a younger sibling who is truly fearless in us the Reformation Group.
The story of Samson and Delilah in the Bible reminds us of the hubris of the tragic figure, Samson who yielded to the flesh and forgot his calling of saving the Israelites from the oppression of the Philistines and had to pay the supreme price as atonement, but not without taking along the enemies. In Oyo State of today, we have a Samson and a Delilah. The only difference is that the Samson in Oyo state is not fighting any cause, and we have a Delilah that has captivated him with the fragrance of sexuality that has robbed him of all sense of justice. By the time this Samson pulls down the house, it will be an empty house with himself and his Delilah being the major casualties, and perhaps the stubborn flies (in this case a clique in the party) whose obstinacy will make them follow the co**se to the grave.

The lesson of the story of Samson in the Bible was that he finally realized the folly of falling into temptation and giving up his treasured gift. With that realization of his utter dependence on God, he received the amazing grace! No matter how far you have fallen away from God, no matter how big you have failed, it is never too late to humble yourself and turn over your dependence upon God. Samson, through his sacrificial death, turned his miserable mistakes into victory. The Samson’s example should persuade those ‘killing’ our party – it is never too late.
Action Congress of Nigeria is our treasured gift, and majority of our party members will not give it away under whatever guise.
It is important to point out from the outset that Dauda Kolawole was not a member of the executive at the time most of the events he chronicled in the rejoinder happened, hence his ignorance could be pardoned. This further reinforces our earlier postulation that he could not have been the writer of the piece, though a signatory. The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau!
We shall now address the issues raised in the rejoinder without fear or favour but with great sense of responsibility and truth knowing fully well that it is easy to tell a story, but it is not at all an easy matter to write history. The rejoinder by the A.C.N executives has merely told a story about what happened and when, but we want to write history about events in our party. Apart from what happened and when, it is important that we concern ourselves with how and why those events happened which require careful investigation and diligent research, and these we have done in providing materials for those who may be interested in the political history of Oyo state. Not many of the issues raised deserve response because the rejoinder is full of contradictions, half truths and outright falsehoods all laced with seeming official self-righteousness.
1. The party asserts that migration to our party has been recording a phenomenal growth. This assertion is not only far from the truth, it is deceptive. It is on record that the morale of our members has not been this low since the formation of the party and this has given the opposition ample opportunity to poach our members. Accord Party unfortunately has been the greatest beneficiary of this lack of direction. Thank God, Reformation Group came to the rescue as people now know that there is still hope in A.C.N. It is insulting that the opposition is challenging the Governor to conduct the local government election if he dares, and truly, he dares not!
2. The party asserted that ALL appointments were considered by the party, in conjunction with our leaders, Alhaji Lam Adesina, Chief Michael Koleoso and the Governor. We want to ask: at which venue were those appointments considered? Thank God, we still have honest men in the party executive who can confirm the truth of our claims. It is on record that even before the election of May, 2011, the party resolved that the issue of political appointments shall be considered by the party, with some concessions made to the governor in respect of certain appointments. It is also on record that after our success at the polls and the inauguration of the Governor and Deputy Governor, thrice, invitations were extended to the Governor by our leaders, including some officials of the party for a consideration of the appointment of commissioners. And thrice the Governor refused to attend. Rather, the Governor wrote a letter through the Chief of Staff requesting for a list of party nominees for consideration. A copy of the letter is still available. The position of the Governor was that the party can only recommend, and that he is not bound by such recommendation. The statement made by the governor when a list was thereafter forwarded to him still resonates, and could be confirmed by those who were at the Governor’s office at the time. The Governor said: I am the governor. Alhaji Lam used Chinese red biro. I use Japanese red biro. The buck stops on my table.” The result of the so-called ‘consideration’ was the list of political appointments as x-rayed below:
COMMISSIONERS
• AC/LAM – 03
• ANPP/SENACO – 07
• PDP – 02
• ACCORD – 02
• AA – 01
• OTHERS – 04
• THE SSG, CHIEF OF STAFF & DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF WERE UNILATERALLY APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR.
SPECIAL ADVISERS
• AC/LAM – 03
• ANPP/SENACO/IP – 11
• PDP – 02
• OTHERS – 01
SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANTS (SSA)
• AC/LAM – 05
• ANPP/SENACO/IP – 15
• PDP – 02
• OTHERS – 02
SPECIAL ASSISTANTS (SA)
• AC/LAM – NIL
• ANPP/SENACO/IP – 18
• PDP – NIL
• OTHERS – 03
IP means Integrity Parliament, while SENACO is an acronym for Senator Ajimobi Campaign Organisation.
The veracity of the above analysis could be confirmed as we have already sent the official list of political appointees to the State Party Secretariat. Though Alhaji Lam is dead, Chief Koleoso is still alive. At the last public outing of Alhaji Lam Adesina at the stakeholders’ meeting at Lafia, he advised that the Governor should do something about the non- A.C.N members of the state executive council. He further reiterated that the pact signed with Accord is not that of A.C.N as a party but a personal one between Ajimobi and Ladoja. What has the EXCO done to give effect to the admonition of our late leader?
3. The party denied that the state women leader of the party Mrs Mabel Williams was appointed by the first lady, but by the executive. The question is: on whose recommendation was the appointment made? Was it by the recommendation of A.C.N leaders from Ibadan South West where Mrs Williams comes from? Is it part of her so called past records and dynamism or a mere coincidence that Mrs Williams is a childhood friend and school mate of the first lady? We are no fools. The truth of the matter is that most members and leaders of A.C.N do not even know the Women Leader! Is it also part of the exco creativity to appoint the first lady as the mother of the party in the state? You may go through the programme of event of the last Oyo South Senatorial meeting held at Mapo for proof where the first lady was conspicuously made the mother of the day. Senatorial meetings for God’s sake are a serious business of the party and not a social function!
4. The party also berated the resort to media by the Reformation group to drive home the voice of truth they have failed to hearken to. We want to say that we have no apology for this. Is it not the same media that the party has resorted to state her position? We are emboldened by the saying of John Kennedy that “a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people”. We in the reformation group are not afraid of our people and we are appealing to them to bear with us that the crisis of governance in Oyo state is not the making of the party but that of strangers who rode on the crest of our party to power without sufficient ideological tutelage. But we learnt authoritatively that they are already on their way out of the party as they are already negotiating with Mr President when it appears that their cousin is no longer in ACCORD with their second term ambition. You a’int seen nothing yet!
5. The party also seems not at peace with our call for the convocation of an impartial panel to look into the crisis in A.C.N when it is apparent that the executive has taken side with those in power, neglecting the principle of supremacy of the party in a party democracy. Maybe they are afraid of their own shadow. We restate our demand for an impartial panel from the National headquarters of the party where all parties shall be given fair-hearing including the party executive who did not even give some local government executives of the party the same before unlawfully suspending them as we alleged in our earlier publication. From the purported response from the party, it is obvious that the write-up was not submitted for consideration of the executive committee of the party before publication. We know that there are still some good men in the EXCO. Another salient question is where was the party when some officials of the party, that is the secretary and the deputy chairman in collaboration with members of the Integrity Parliament initiated the project of endorsing the governor for second term and appointing him as the leader of the party against all known norms of the progressives? Has the party reprimanded the officials till date? The natural inference therefore is that the project has the support of the Chairman of the party despite his retort that they were merely expressing their opinion which is allowed in a democracy. Some leaders in Ibarapa have been hoodwinked into following the infamous path, but we wish to salute the courage of the leaders in Oke-Ogun and other zones who have refused to dance naked in the market-place.
6. The party also made a lot of fuss about the person of Olusola Bolodeoku, and that he is alien to the party’s membership list, and that if he is real he should come to the party office and lay his grouses on the table. The grouses are already well laid in the public domain. I wish to state and I cannot but be personal in this respect that I am a bona fide and committed member of A.C.N. Bolodeoku is not synonymous with Reformation Group. I am merely her mouth-piece. Reformation group has not asked for money or political office. It is merely asking that justice and truth, fairness and equality should reign supreme in the conduct of affairs of the A.C.N in Oyo state, and that the party should not be an appendage of those in power, and no more. We are only demanding that nobody should stand higher than the party and that those who represent us in the party should like Caesar’s wife be above board. If for whatever reason(s), they could not find my name in ‘their’ membership list, they should perhaps search their conscience. In any case, my name is Olusola Bolodeoku, and my father has not chosen to change it!
7. It is regrettable that the party has decided to be silent on the over-bearing influence of the first lady in the party and government. It is alleged that the first lady has more nominees in government than the party, that she has about six senior special assistants and special assistants attached to her office ALONE at public expense. It is even alleged that the first lady even sign cheques as chairperson of SACA (the first ever in the history of Oyo State) when the office of the first lady is unknown to the Nigerian constitution? What we are saying is simply that the party should do her bit in restoring sanity into governance. The South African experience where an ideological party, African National Congress (A.N.C) asked the President Thabo Mbeki to resign from office to save the party offers a great lesson in party supremacy and the advocacy of the Reformation Group. The Exco should perhaps spare little efforts to investigate the alleged funding of Integrity Parliament by the first lady, who personally attended IP meeting on Friday, 1st, February, 2013 in one of the local governments in Ibadan.
8. Why also has the EXCO decided not to respond to the issue of the Governor’s interview in the Sun Newspaper where the Governor said that those who said second term is not possible in Oyo state are dead and that he shall do second term? Is it a case of selective amnesia or is it because the statement was made with the knowledge and consent of Lam and Chief Koleoso too? Wonder shall never end!
The Reformation Group is not interested in power for its sake, but in ensuring that we all keep to the true teachings of our forebears in progressive politics. Chief Obafemi Awolowo warned and urged us “to bear in mind, constantly and scrupulously, that there is a cancerous and fatal disease in public life known as TENACITY OF OFFICE which he defined as “… A POLITICAL MONSTROSITY WHOSE CHARACTERISTICS ARE AN INORDINATE AND SHAMELESS LOVE OF POWER FOR ITS OWN SAKE, AND A MORBID TENACITY FOR PUBLIC OFFICE EVEN WHEN ALL THE LEGITIMACY FOR CONTINUING IN SUCH PUBLIC OFFICE HAS COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED”.
The virus of this affliction is already latent in Oyo state, some of which as identified by the sage are:
a. The assumption of office holders of superiority over the rest of the populace whom they serve, including their compeers and betters in every respect.
b. The description of a Governor as ‘his excellency’ or ‘H.E’ in and out of season, quite outside the bounds of strictly formal occasions, the wife is even sometimes addressed as ‘Her Excellency’ in public and as ‘Mrs HE’ in private conversation.
c. The description of a woman who yesterday was a humble and dutiful housewife, and co-breadwinner with her husband as ‘FIRST LADY’, simply because as a result of the changing and impermanent vicissitudes of public life, the husband happens today, to be head of state or Governor, the younger the woman, the more easily she and her husband succumb to the attack of this virus.
d. The constant use by a head of government as distinct from a Head of State of the phrase ‘MY GOVERNMENT’, as if the ‘GOVERNMENT’ is his private property.
Chief Awolowo further warned that “all these things, among others, must be scrupulously eschewed: they are poisonous, dangerous, and induce the fell and fatal political disease of TENACITY OF OFFICE”. Are these not the lethal injection being prescribed by our party executives? Even in the advertorial, A.C.N- led government was conspicuously referred to as ‘AJIMOBI GOVERNNENT’. It is not, it is the government of the people. The Reformation Group is ready and prepared to organize ideological classes free of charge for all the officials of the party from the ward to state levels to update them on the teachings of progressivism. It is never too late to learn, but it is more dangerous for ignorance to be promoted as truth or knowledge. It is our ideology that distinguishes us from other parties, and it we fritter away the goodwill we enjoy based on that ideology on the altar of political expediency and ignorance, then we are pushing the good people of the State to trade gold for brass. A.C.N is gold; other parties in the state are brass. We need to demonstrate that ideological superiority so that people will know that we side with them all the time. Democracy for justice is not a mere slogan; it is a call to duty, and doing justice to all members of A.C.N as Reformation Group has always advocated is not a charity from those concerned but an obligation. A tree does not make a forest!
In closing, we wish to reiterate our charge to our party members to remain steadfast to the cause of justice and progress of our party and to know that ‘the ravening cloud shall not long possess the sky’. In a recent letter to one of his disciples, the Great Lam from the land of immortality wrote: “for those who betray me and wish to destroy the legacy I bequeath unto you, fight them not, but call their attention to the Holy Bible-2 TIMOTHY 4:14 where Paul the Apostle wrote to Timothy thus: ‘Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works’(Aleksanderu alagbede baba se mi ni ibi pupo: Oluwa yoo san an fun un gege bi ise re). I shall say no more”.
We shall publish the full content of LAM’s letter in due course. WATCH OUT!
Bi Oyo o ba d’ara, kii se ada’se tokotaya.
LONG LIVE A.C.N!
