OYSACA Donates Educational Materials to Orphans and Vulnerable
Children to mark World AIDS Day 2019

As part of activities to commemorate 2019 World AIDS Day, Oyo State Government through the State Agency for the control of AIDS (OYSACA) has again extended her hand of benevolence to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in the state by donating educational materials, toiletries and other useful materials to their orphanages.

While presenting gift items to Living Word Mission (LIWOM) Orphanage Ososami, The Chairperson of the Agency, Her Excellency, the Wife of the Governor, Engineer, Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde who was ably represented by the Executive Secretary Dr. W.A Lanre Abass reiterated that the present administration is passionate about the orphans and vulnerable children in the state, and therefore gave the assurance of continued support for their welfare.

No fewer than 300 children from four different homes benefited from the items such as exercise books, writing materials, school bags, mathematical set, diapers, toys among other gift items presented to the OVC to support them.

In his response, the founder of Living Word Mission Orphanage, Ososami Ibadan, Pastor Marcus expressed profound appreciation to OYSACA, thanking Her Excellency for expressing so much concern for the orphans and vulnerable children in the State and for her intention to continue to support and cater for their needs, “may God bless her and the entire Oyo SACA”, he remarked.

Other homes visited during the tour were Love Trust Orphanage, Ikolaba Ibadan, Toras Orphanage, Odo-ona Elewe, Ibadan and PAC Orphanage, Ogbomoso.

In the same vein, in a bid to foster the education agenda of the present administration in the state, OYSACA has reached out to Secondary School students who were outstanding at the quiz competition conducted for secondary schools in the 5 geopolitical zones in the state.

OYSACA HOSTS IMPLEMENTING PARTNERS ON GLOBAL FUND HIV EXTENSION

Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) has expressed its readiness to synergize with Society for Family Health, through Equitable Health Access Initiative (EHAI) towards the implementation of public health intervention projects, training and research, aimed at supporting the government of Nigeria in ensuring that people of Oyo State have access to affordable, equitable and quality health care services especially as it relates to HIV/AIDS.

This partnership was established during an advocacy visit paid by the principal recipient of Global-Fund on HIV/AIDS, Society for Family Health and its Sub-recipient, EHAI, today.

In the course of the visit, EHAI gave the Agency the notification of commencement of a new project which is tagged “Optimizing HIV investment for Impact”, a project which will be targeting the key populations who are at high risk of contracting HIV such as Female s*x workers (FSW), Men having s*x with men (MSM) and people who Inject drugs (PWID).

In his own remarks, the Executive Secretary, OYSACA Dr. W. A. Lanre Abass urged the team to work with the State effectively, to bring about success in which all stakeholders will speak the same language from the National, through the state, local government and community level.

The visiting team comprised of a representative of Society for Family Health, Roselyn Odeh, members of Equitable Health Access Initiative, Abayomi Afe and Toba Babawanri.
