STAKEHOLDER MEETING WRAP-UP | WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY 2026 🩸

The National Blood Service Agency, South West Zonal Centre, has just concluded a strategic Stakeholders’ Meeting at our Conference Room, Ibadan.

The meeting was held as part of activities to mark World Blood Donor Day 2026 with the theme: “Normalizing Voluntary Blood Donation”.

Key discussions included:
Breaking the myths: Stakeholders agreed on the need to address misconceptions and build public trust in voluntary blood donation.

Grassroots to state-level action: Stronger engagement with communities, hospitals, religious leaders, and the media was emphasized to make donation a regular habit, not a last resort.

Standards & compliance: NBSA’s mandate to regulate blood banks and ensure every unit of blood meets WHO safety standards was reaffirmed.

Collective ownership: Partners pledged to put NBSA on board in their programs and support the agenda for a safe, voluntary, and self-sufficient blood supply.

We appreciate every stakeholder who showed up, spoke up, and committed to action. Normalizing voluntary donation starts with all of us 💚

Thank you for helping us build a Nigeria where no one dies for lack of safe blood.

🤝 COURTESY VISIT TO WHO, OSOGBO 🤝

National Blood Service Agency paid a courtesy visit to the World Health Organisation office in Osogbo earlier this week to strengthen collaboration on safe blood transfusion in Nigeria.

Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ojediran, Head of WHO Osogbo, welcomed the NBSA team and shared key insights:
Doing it right: Blood donation must follow global standards.
She addressed myths around donation and stressed awareness + public acceptance.
She emphasized engaging stakeholders + partners at every level, with NBSA fully on board and advised NBSA to build grassroots engagement from state level down to local levels.

Full support pledged: Mrs. Ojediran pledged WHO Osogbo’s support to strengthen the NBSA agenda across Osun State.

Dr. Aworanti, Zonal Director, NBSA South West also highlighted NBSA’s mandate:
* Establish clear rules guiding voluntary blood donation in Nigeria
* Regulate blood banks and sensitize them on compliance
* Engage Nigerians to follow WHO guidelines for safe, voluntary donation
* Mobilize stakeholders to own the blood donation movement

Blood safety is a shared responsibility. With partners like WHO, we’re closer to a Nigeria where every unit of blood is safe, voluntary, and available when needed.
