โThe Monitoring Team of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, during today's August Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise, conducted an extensive inspection across the Iju-Ishaga axis in Ward E and cleared heaps of refuse illegally dumped on the newly commissioned Onijemo Bridge.
โThe monitoring delegation was led by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oluwatoyin Awoniyi-Akerele, alongside key local government officials, including the Council Manager, Alhaji Nurudeen Olusola Tobun; the Leader of the 7th Legislative Arm and Ward E Councillor, Hon. Adebo Samuel Kayode; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Ayokunle Fasusi Kolawole (Bachel); and the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abolaji Mustapha Taiwo.
Supervisors, Special Advisers, Security Personnel, and Environmental Health Officers were also part of the exercise.
โDuring the inspection, the team expressed concern over recent indecent activities, as the newly commissioned Onijemo Bridge is being converted into an illegal refuse site by some residents.
The monitoring delegation promptly oversaw the clearance of the accumulated waste on the bridge to restore environmental order.
โAddressing the community, the Vice Chairman, who spoke on behalf of Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat - UAH appealed directly to residents to desist from indiscriminate refuse disposal, highlighting that such illegal dumping blocks drainage channels, triggers flooding, and poses severe public health hazards, including disease outbreaks.
โThe Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, has reinforced strict enforcement measures across the council area to curb environmental abuse.
The Chairman continues to urge all residents to adhere strictly to environmental laws, dispose off their waste through approved channels, and collaborate with the local government to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all.
