Rerun: My interest is in good governance of Osun State, Omisore says
After over 72 hours of pressure on him by both the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said that what is paramount to him is the practice of true democracy in Osun State. Omisore firmly states that he will never renege on his promise of good governance, accountability and human dignity in Osun state.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Omisore said "Osun state has always been a stellar example of democracy where the people have consistently and freely expressed their franchise to determine who governs them. This should remain so. Osun people have shown that it is not business as usual. It is a positive deviation from what was hitherto the norm.
I am telling my people that they should go with any political party that believes in what we in the SDP stand for; good governance, social justice and accountability. I have already detailed how we planned to restore Osun to the path of good governance through the five thematic pillars in the manifesto I shared during the electioneering. I will not negotiate for personal gains and abandon my people.
"My alliance is with the people of Osun state irrespective of the political party they belong. I want my people to be treated with the dignity they deserve. I desire that they have a government that will be accountable to them. I want them to experience the good governance the founding fathers of this state envisaged. I have told the parties that have solicited for my support to approach the electorates and ask for their mandate as I have assured them that I will not coerce them for political or social power. It is because I have kept my promise that has made me enjoyed their unalloyed support all these years.
As highlighted in SDP manifestos, the five thematic pillars the SDP had hoped to implement to improve governance, eliminate financial reckless and reposition the economy of Osun state include: Economic management and accountability; Professionalism and performance; Equity in access to service; Local content and innovation and Security. To this end, he has said to all Nigerians that this is the centre point of his campaign and "democracy we both fought for and believe in. It is the right and democratic freedom of people to choose by their own free will. Their votes should not be coerced by money, vote buying, intimidation in form of militarisation, political and social power.
"Their voices of demand for good governance, accountability and human dignity should continue to be heard as well as salaries paid. All these are what I stand for and which the SDP had promised the people all through our electioneering campaigns. They are still paramount to me as we collectively chart the way forward for the governorship elections rerun in Osun state."
Senator Omisore assured his followers and admirers that he will not abandon his campaign promises even as he engaged all stakeholders on the way forward to ensure the progress of Osun state is achieved.

Words can simply not express the depth of my gratitude and appreciation of you all. Over the many months I prepared for, and went out to meet the people of Osun state in my quest to be elected as Governor of the state, the depth of love and support from my family has been the central core of my strength. Everyone without exception, was there for me with prayers, suggestions and words of encouragement. My campaign received donation in cash and kind in large volumes from everyone. Members of our great dynasty volunteered precious time off their own busy and tight schedules. They served on strategy, communications and operational teams. They worked for long tireless hours in the trenches with SDP party members and supporters. Together, we have delivered what is publicly acknowledged as the most elegantly executed and impactful political process and election campaign in Osun state. I stand tall and proud because of you!

Please permit me to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to every member of this great dynasty where ever they may be. I am proud of the Omisore Laakaye Dynasty and who we are. Each in our individual space, we shall continue to impact on lives in this state and well beyond. GOV KAYODE FAYEMI STORMS ILE IFE, SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH OMISORE FOR ELECTION RERUN

Today, 25th of Sept 2018 was another milestone in the course of the current political struggle for the occupation of Abere Government House as Governor elect of Ekiti State Dr Kayode Fayemi storms the residence of Sen Iyiola Omisore, candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP in the Sept 22 Governorship election in 2018.

Recall, the outcome of the said election has become a subject of controversy as INEC declared same inconclusive. Since then, the fate of the two leading parties, the APC and PDP has been hanging in the balance. Meanwhile, the decider of who to carry the day remains Sen Omisore as the bulk of vote to decide the eventual winner lies in his territory. Just yesterday, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on behalf of the PDP also came around seeking collaboration.

The power to choose right between the two lies in the wisdom of the leadership of the party. Above all interests, the interest of Osun people remains sacred and priority.

On a lighter mood, Gov Fayemi remarked "Beyond politics, Sen Iyiola Omisore is my in-law and I believe we are on course."

The meeting came to an end at 4:02pm as Sen Omisore and his guest departed Ile Ife in the same car.

Omisore lists commitment to payment of salaries, pensions and good governance as conditions for SDP support to both PDP and APC

Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the last Saturday poll in Osun, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Monday listed conditions to get his support for the Thursday’s rerun election.

Osun poll was declared inconclusive after elections were cancelled in 7 units in Ifon Orolu local government, Osogbo, Ife North and Ife South local government areas.

Omisore’s father, Oba David Omisore, is the ruler of Garage Olode, a town in Ife South, where election in two units were cancelled.

Also, Omisore came third in the governorship poll, after garnering a total of 128, 049 votes and his support may determine the fate of the fate of PDP candidate, who is leading and the APC candidate, who is second in the poll.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, visited Omisore at his country home in Ile-Ife Nx asked him to work with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to wrestle power from APC at the Thursday’s governorship rerun.

Also, some stalwarts of the APC were said to have stormed Omisore’s home to lure him to team up with their party to defeat the PDP.

But the Saraki and APC stalwarts’ visit appeared not to have yielded immediate positive results as Senator Omisore has declared that which ever party is ready to implement his programmes as SDP candidate, would have his support during Thursday’s poll.

Omisore said: “I have given my programmes to both APC and PDP. My programme is like this; payment of salaries and pensions.Good governance is what is important to me.

“Anyone between the two that will do that will get my support. I am passionate about Osun and my interest is the welfare of the people of this state. I have told those sent to me. At the appropriate time, we will tell you where we are going.”

Saraki, who spoke in Ile Ife country home of Omisore after meeting the former federal lawmaker expressed optimism of a good outing for to the PDP.

He said: “we had a fruitful discussion with Senator Omisore. He used to be with us. And we believe he is helping us now. I am optimistic of a good outing for PDP.

“After meeting with hm, I am more optimistic now that with his support, PDP will win. We are confident of a good outing. I am more confident now.

“At the end of the day, the poll was again declared inclusive. That like take away all commendations that should have gone the way of INEC.”

“I thank Sen. Iyiola Omisore for the warm reception he and his people gave me and members of my entourage in Ile Ife today.

“Our discussion will definitely be useful for the growth of democracy in our country; the development of Osun State and its people; as well as for future engagements among political players.

OMISORE THANKS ALL SDP MEMBERS AND SUPPORTERS

On the 22nd of May 2018, I made the bold decision to seek for election to the Office of Governor of Osun state under the platform Social Democratic Party (SDP). The past four months have been very exciting. I am delighted that our message of good governance and dignity has reached every corner of the state.
Over the past four months, I have worked with committed people who have given time and resources to our shared agenda for restoration. I am confident that while we might appear to have lost an election, we have won the greater victory; the clarion call by all our people for good governance and accountability. We have positively impacted on electoral campaigns and elections in Osun state promoting inclusion, people centeredness and shied completely away from vote buying, voter intimidation and thuggery. The SDP campaign was factual, informed and inclusive.
Our manifesto presented to the people an Agenda for Restoration of Good Governance and Human Dignity. Its five pillars spoke to our needs across all sectors, promoted access that would leave no one behind and reversal of reckless financial management of the current APC government in Osun state towards shared prosperity and economic growth. The reaction was swift, albeit as a ploy to win votes. Our campaign prompted payment of salaries, a commitment to push back on common uniforms and questionable mega schools. We have called attention to patronage driven public sector management and indeed engaged citizens in such a way that the demand for public accountability will continue to drive governance going forward, irrespective of which party leads the state.
I must thank everyone who supported the Restoration Agenda for their commitment and work. This is the core of the democracy we seek. We have won the electoral battle in way hitherto unheard of in the state, and I daresay in contemporary democratic elections in Nigeria. You have all done well and I thank you. I extend special thanks to the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, other Obas, Chiefs and indigenes of Ife at home and in the diaspora. Your support both motivated and inspired. I express very deep appreciation of the rock solid support from the Omisore, Laakaye dynasty. Together, we have gone much further to bring peace to our state and nation
We shall continue in our demand for good governance, accountability and human dignity. My commitment to this remains total without any prejudice to the next steps we collectively workout. Our people’s votes have again been manipulated through vote buying, and exploitation of the hunger in our land. Only good governance and committed leadership can drive out this hunger. The quest for this continues
I enjoin you to sustained action noting as Mary Matthews states in the 1948 movie ‘State of the Union’ “Politicians have stayed professionals only because the voters have remained amateurs.” We shall continue to invest on democratic education and political awareness of our people, so vote buying is totally eliminated in the most peaceful and democratic ways. The SDP shall not leave the Osun state to corrupt wheeler dealers but shall continue to commit to social justice and equity until we can be assured that our electoral processes are sanitized and give us the state of our dreams
