*LASEPA Takes Proactive Measures to Mitigate Cholera Outbreak in Lagos State*
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) is taking swift action to address the suspected cholera outbreak in Lagos State, leveraging its regulatory expertise to safeguard the environment and public health.
As the state’s environmental watchdog, LASEPA is working tirelessly to investigate possible cases of water contamination, assess environmental impact, and implement measures to minimize risk and protect public health. Our team is on high alert, collecting water samples for testing and analysis at our ISO-certified laboratory so as to assess the possible cause of the outbreak with a view to minimizing its environmental impact.
“LASEPA is committed to ensuring a healthy environment for all citizens,” said Dr. Babatunde Ajaji, General Manager of LASEPA. “We are working closely with stakeholders, including the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Directorate of Environmental Health, to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.”
Key environmental efforts include:
- Investigating possible water contamination sources.
- Collecting water samples for testing and analysis.
- Assessing environmental impact and implementing mitigation measures
- Ensuring proper sanitation and hygiene practices
- Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure a coordinated response
Citizens are advised to take precautionary measures:
- Stay hydrated
- Drink safe water (boiled or certified safe)
- Maintain proper sanitation and hygiene
- Practice good handwashing habits
- Follow food safety guidelines
- Use Oral Rehydration Salts for mild to moderate dehydration

Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) are often neglected in the supply chain, despite their crucial role in ensuring compliance with modern-day environmental protection requirements during the manufacturing process.
Hence, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) is organizing a one-day training program for all ETP operators and users across the State. The training aims to provide them with customized guidelines, knowledge, and expertise to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of their facilities, with a particular focus on the management system of the Plants.

In a determined response to recurring environmental infractions, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, led his enforcement team in the decisive action of sealing Bayrock, a prominent establishment in Lekki Phase 1. This action was taken due to Bayrock's persistent non-compliance with environmental regulations and their role in contributing to noise pollution.
LASEPA’s enforcement team, led by the General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi @thetundeajayi has decisively sealed Religious Centers due to concerns regarding Noise Pollution and Environmental Disruption.
This action affects establishments like Ansar-Ud-deen and Restoration Centre Global Church in Gbagada.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, along with his enforcement team took decisive action by sealing Pulkit Alloy & Steel Limited in Ikorodu Odogoyan due to severe environmental pollution. The company has persistently violated environmental regulations, emitting harmful substances that pose substantial health and environmental hazards to the residents of Ikorodu and its surroundings.
