LASG TRAINS ENGINEERS, HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICERS

In a bid to build a skilled, adaptable and productive workforce, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Establishments and Training, has commenced a dual job-specific training programme for Engineers and Human Resource Officers in the State Civil Service.

The training, which has over 200 participants in attendance, is designed to equip them with relevant knowledge and practical skills to effectively respond to emerging challenges in the workplace. The programme is being held concurrently at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

The Engineering training prpgramme focused on themed “Effective Engineering Solutions for Public Sector Challenges,” while the Human Resource was on “Human Resource and Organisational Management.”

Whilst declaring the programme open, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Dr. Olubusola Abidakun, encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity by actively engaging in the sessions, acquire new knowledge and share experiences with one another.

She also urged the participants to take time to relax and enjoy the learning experience, noting that effective training should provide not only opportunities for professional development but also an avenue for participants to refresh, connect and exchange ideas.

Dr. Abidakun commended the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his commitment to continuous capacity development and his efforts towards strengthening a competent, efficient and future-ready public service.

NEWLY APPOINTED JNC CHAIRPERSON PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO MINISTRY

The newly appointed Chairperson of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Comrade Christiana Adeboboye, alongside the Vice Chairperson and other members of the JNC Executive recently paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry.

The visit was aimed to formally introduce the newly constituted leadership of the Joint Negotiating Council to the Ministry, following the unfortunate demise of the late JNC Chairman, Comrade Michael Domingo, during the 2026 International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference held in Switzerland.

The courtesy visit also provided an opportunity for the JNC leadership and the Ministry to engage on critical issues affecting workers, more importantly matters relating to staff welfare, productivity and workers overall well-being within the Lagos State Public Service.

Whilst welcoming the JNC executives, the Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, congratulated the newly appointed Chairperson and her Vice on their assumption of office.

He also expressed his condolences over the passing of the late Chairman, he described his demise as a significant loss to the organised labour movement and the entire Lagos State Public Service.

The Commissioner acknowledged the important role of the Joint Negotiating Council in promoting constructive engagement between the government and workers. He noted that sustained dialogue and collaboration remain pivotal in addressing issues affecting the workforce and maintaining industrial harmony in the State.

He assured the new JNC leadership of the Ministry’s readiness to work collaboratively with the Council in addressing issues of mutual concern and advancing initiatives that would contribute to a more productive, motivated and harmonious public service.

Also speaking during the courtesy visit, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Dr. Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, expressed her condolences on the passing of the late Comrade Domingo.

She assured the newly appointed JNC leadership of the Ministry’s continuous support and pledged to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the Ministry and the Council.

In her remarks, the newly appointed JNC Chairperson, Comrade Christiana Adeboboye, expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary and the Ministry for warm welcome. She also commended the Ministry for its support and solidarity extended to the Council during their period of grief following the loss of the late Chairman.

While reaffirming the Council’s commitment to responsibly represent the interests of workers, she noted that the Council would continue to promote constructive dialogue, consultation and mutual understanding in its engagement with the government, particularly on matters relating to workers’ welfare, career development and improved working conditions.

In line with this commitment, the Ministry organised a dual training programme which focused on an often-overlooked driver of productivity "Mental Health and Emotional Well-being"

LASG Empowers Public Servants on New Fiscal Landscape at PwC-Collaborative Training Programme

In a decisive move to align the state’s workforce with contemporary economic reforms, the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments and Training, in conjunction with professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), has officially commenced a high-level 2-day training programme focused on the "Strategic Implications of the New Nigerian Tax Law".

The capacity-building workshop held at *Workforce Group, Gbagada, Oworonshoki**, span six days accross three different cohorts and included officers from different cadres of the State Public Service

The programme brings together key public servants to examine the wide-ranging shifts introduced by recent national tax reforms, underscoring the administration's unwavering dedication to fostering a smarter, future-ready, and highly efficient public service.

Delivering the keynote address at the opening ceremony, the Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, **Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo**, highlighted that comprehensive tax reforms represent a monumental milestone in Nigeria’s economic evolution.

He stressed that as drivers of government policy and ex*****on, public servants must thoroughly understand the strategic nuances of the new legislation.

*"The recent tax reforms mark a significant milestone in our nation's economic journey. As public servants, it is our responsibility to understand the strategic implications of the New Nigerian Tax Law and ensure that our institutions remain compliant, transparent and efficient "*he said.

The Commissioner also lauded the robust collaboration between the Lagos State Government and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), noting that the partnership demonstrates the profound value of joint efforts between government and the private sector in delivering world-class learning experiences.

Addressing the assembled participants, Mr. Ayantayo urged them to engage actively throughout the intensive sessions, ask questions, and translate the knowledge gained into improved workplace performance.

In his goodwill message, Mr Babatunde Adedigba, a tax expert and Regional Tax leader at Price Waters Coopers highlighted the huge potential of the Lagos economy adding that it is not the fourth in Africa by accident.

Ministry of Establishments and Training has trains over 100 Public Affairs Officers drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across the Lagos State Public Service on Social Media Management for Government Communication.

LAGOS STATE LAUNCHES PSAP COHORT 2 TO DRIVE INSTITUTIONAL TRANSFORMATION AND SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC SERVICE

The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Establishments and Training has officially flagged off the second cohort of the Public Service Accelerator Programme (PSAP 2.0) at the, Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo.

Held under the theme *"Embedding Excellence: Leadership for Sustainable Public Service,"* the landmark event brought together key government functionaries to champion human capital development and future-ready public governance.

Delivering the keynote address, the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, celebrated the massive success of the inaugural PSAP cohort, noting that the initiative acts as a vital catalyst for total transformation within the Civil Service. He emphasized that true leadership in the public sector is measured by the sustainable value created for citizens rather than power wielded.

"Excellence is not a destination we arrive at and rest upon; it is a moving target and a continuous practice* ,"* Mr. Agoro stated, urging the new participants to act as transformative change agents executing the THEMES+ Agenda with renewed precision.

Reinforcing this commitment, the Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, **Hon. Afolabi Ayantayo**, noted that the Ministry has shifted toward specialized, high-impact capacity building designed to meet the demands of a modern, "Smart" Lagos.

He assured participants that the Ministry is actively refining competency frameworks to ensure career progression aligns with demonstrated expertise and value addition.

Echoing these sentiments, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, **Dr. Olubusola Abidakun**, highlighted that the PSAP was designed to nurture agile leaders who can navigate the complexities of 21st-century governance .

She noted that excellence must be treated as a discipline that guarantees high-quality service delivery regardless of operational challenges

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Establishments and Training and Project Manager for the PSAP, **Mrs. Toyin Atanda Rufai**, expressed deep pride in witnessing the evolution of the initiative.

Serving as Project Manager, she underscored that the program is carefully structured to build a sustainable culture of excellence.

She encouraged the new inductees of Cohort 2 to embrace the rigorous training as a crucible for personal and institutional growth.

Participants were selected through a rigorous process and will undergo intensive training covering modern governance frameworks, data-driven decision-making, adaptive leadership strategies, and innovative problem-solving techniques.

The Ministry today commenced an In-Service Training Programme for 1,000 officers drawn from various cadres across the Lagos State Public Service.

The training, which is being conducted in batches of 100 participants per day, runs from Monday, 13 July to Friday, 24 July 2026. It is designed to strengthen skills, enhance productivity, and promote excellence in service delivery.
