Agree on consensus candidate, Saraki urges Kwara North PDP gov aspirants

Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, who is a national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, has told the 11 gubernatorial aspirants in the party from the Kwara North Senatorial zone to meet and agree on a consensus candidate among themselves.

Saraki, who held a meeting with the aspirants in Ilorin on Saturday night, advised the aspirants to meet and agree on a particular candidate that will carry the flag of the party in the 2023 governorship election in the state.


The PDP had zoned the governorship slot to the North Senatorial zone of the state in the 2023 elections.

Some of the aspirants present at the meeting were Professor Yisa Gana, former Ambassador to Japan; Hon. Ahman Pategi, former member of the House of Representatives; Hon. Zakari Mohammed, former member of the House of Representatives; and Rt Hon Isa Bio-Ibrahim, a former Speaker of the State Assembly and former Minister of Works.

Others were: Hon. Bawa Adamu, Hon. Sidiq Abubakar, Hon. Abubakar Shamaki, Mr. Ayodele Joel and Hon.Kawu Adam.

Saraki said, “At the meeting, which was held in Ilorin, our state capital, all the aspirants agreed that as a way of guaranteeing the unity of our party after the primaries, the consensus option remains the best means of selecting our candidate.

“In this regard, the aspirants have now decided to go back home, meet amongst themselves, consult with all relevant stakeholders and community leaders, and come up with a consensus candidate.

“The leadership of the party is pleased with this development. Our aspirants deciding to work together to preserve the unity amongst our ranks is certainly encouraging.

“We urge all the aspirants to ensure that there is justice, equity, and fairness in arriving at a decision.

“The party leadership has promised to support the decision taken by the aspirants”, Saraki said at the end of the meeting.
