*Kwara Energy Ministry Begins Inspection of Installed Transformers Across the State*

The Kwara State Ministry of Energy has commenced the inspection of 34 Nos transformers that were earlier procured and distributed across various communities in the state.

The Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, disclosed this on Tuesday during an inspection and monitoring exercise of the ongoing installation of transformers across the state.

According to him, the exercise is part of the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that all installed transformers meet required standards before they are energised for public use.

“You will recall that on January 24, 2026, the Kwara State Government commenced the installation of transformers across the state to improve electricity access in many communities,” the Commissioner said.

During the inspection, the Commissioner and his team visited several locations including Baba Ode Halbash Bakery, Opposite Osin Aremu, Asadam Road, Ilorin West Local Government Area, where installation has been completed and is currently awaiting approval for energisation.

Other locations inspected include Orisunbare Phase 1 Community, Off Egbejila Road; Caliphate Estate, Ilorin West, Lubcon Area; Mandate Area behind Western Reservoir, Ilorin West; and Nasara Filling Station Area, Sawmill Garage Area in Ilorin South Local Government Area.

The team also inspected installations at Ojodu Community, Babaoko Ward, Ilorin West; Shao Community in Moro Local Government Area; Obate Emirate, Oke Andi, Kulende Area; Unity Estate Phase C Community, Off Taoheed Road, Tanke; Mountain of Valley behind Specialist Hospital; and Sabo-Oke Akintola Community, Sokoto Road, among others.

The Commissioner was accompanied on the inspection by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Mr. Olaitan Afolabi; Acting Director, Electrical Engineering, Engr. Fisayo Dada; Acting Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Olawoye Olaolu, and other officials of the Ministry.

The inspection exercise is aimed at ensuring proper installation, compliance with technical standards, and readiness for energisation to enhance electricity supply in the benefiting communities.

This critical infrastructure is set to enhance power reliability and support socio-economic activities within the community, marking another milestone in the Ministry’s commitment to improving electricity access across Kwara State.

The exercise was led by the Director of Electrical Engineering, Engineer Fisayo Dada, who supervised the rigorous technical assessments to ensure the transformer meets all operational standards.

*FGN Power Company Seeks Collaboration with KWSG*

The FGN Power Company, under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), has sought collaboration with the Kwara State Government to boost sufficient power supply across the State.

This was disclosed today during a stakeholders’ meeting involving the Ministry, representatives of FGN Power Company, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria, held at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Ilorin.

The Commissioner for Energy, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Mr. Olaitan Afolabi, assured of the Kwara State Government’s support for the initiative.

He described the project as a laudable initiative by the Federal Government and noted that the state government is working tirelessly to improve the economic, social, and infrastructural development of the State.

He further stated that the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through the Ministry of Energy, has commenced the installation of 34 transformers across the State, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of the people.

He added that power is inevitable for development and emphasized that the State Government is taking all necessary actions to enhance social, economic, and infrastructural growth.

He assured that the State would fully support the initiative, as it is for the benefit of Kwarans, which will also attract investors.

The Coordinator, Distribution Lines and Injection Sub-station, and Technical Lead of the FGN team, Engr. Oladunjoye Olubukola, stated that the Offa Sub-station is one of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) in the Phase One projects.

The Coordinator, Environmental, Social and Governance, FGN Power Company, Dr. Robert Eze, explained that the initiative is aimed at bridging the energy gap in the country, with a clear mandate to increase power supply.

He noted that the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) is investing in comprehensive solutions designed to provide Nigerian consumers with dependable and additional electricity.

According to him, the expected impact includes the radiation of more feeders, enhanced commercial, industrial, and residential activities for increased attraction of investors to the State.

In her remarks, the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Oshogbo Sub-region, Engr. Chizoba Ezeoke, said the initiative would benefit the people of Offa and its environs by creating employment opportunities and improving access to sufficient and reliable power supply.

She added that it would boost small businesses and ensure more stable electricity supply.

*Kwara Govt Begins Installation of 34 Transformers Across the State*

The Kwara State Government has commenced the immediate installation of thirty-four (34) already procured transformers across the State as part of efforts to improve citizens' access to electricity and enhance socio-economic activities of the State.

The Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, disclosed this on Saturday at Orisunbare Street, off Egbejila Road, Asa-Dam, Ilorin, while inspecting one of the approved installation sites.

Engr. AbdulGaniy stated that installation works have already begun in Shao, Moro Local Government Area, and other locations across the State.

According to him, the ongoing installations include: Caliphate Estate, Lubcon Area; Baba Ode Halbash Bakery, opposite Osin Aremu, off Asa-Dam, Ojodu Community, Baboko Ward, Mandate, behind Western Reservoir all in Ilorin West Local Government Area.

Other locations are: Sabo Oke Skint-Ola Community, Sokoto Road, Akorede Community, Oke-Oyi, in front of Oke-Oyi LGEA School, and Mountain of Valley Community, by the Specialist Hospital (Ilorin East LGA).

Engr AbdulGaniy further listed Obate Emirate, Oke-Andi; Kulende Area; Gbako Community, Okolowo Area; Unity Estate Phase C Community, off Taoheed Road, Tanke; Otitolere Community, Kilanko Area; Nasara Filling Station Community, Offa Garage Area, Afo-Olowo Joint Community; Laomi/Olokun Community; Ilupeju Community, Karoke; Olaitan Oguntunde Community, Ila-Oja; and Lea-Lea Bata/Lea-Lea Mogbo, located within Ilorin South and Asa and Edu Local Government Areas, respectively.

He added that other beneficiary communities include Ilawe Community; Obo-Aiyegunle (Ekiti Local Government Area); Adio Community; Babaloma, Share Wards III and IV; Ajegunle Community, Phase IV, Ganmo Area; Rehabilitation Centre, Amoyo (Ifelodun Local Government Area); Oke-Onigbin Community (Isin Local Government Area); Old Garage Area (Kiama Local Government Area); Budo-Ayan Community, Lanwa Ward; Onikpako Community, Jebba; Shao Community (Moro Local Government Area); Ipee Community (Oyun Local Government Area); Onila Community Development, Onila-Omido Kingdom, Ajase-Ipo Ward II (Irepodun Local Government Area); Goodness Community, Lamodi Area; and Surulere Community, Offa.

Engr. AbdulAzeez described the project as part of the commitment of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to improve the welfare of residents and stimulate economic growth across the State.

He assured communities still awaiting transformer installations that they will be captured in subsequent phases, noting that the administration remains deeply committed to equitable development and improved living conditions for all Kwarans.

*KWSG Procures Transformer for Gaa Osibi Community*

The Kwara State Government has procured a 500KVA, 11/0.415KV distribution transformer for Gaa Osibi community in Ilorin South Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply across the State.

This was announced by the Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, during a briefing in his office on Tuesday after receiving the newly procured transformer.

According to him, the newly procured transformer is intended to replace a previously damaged unit that had affected power supply in the community.

Engr. AbdulAzeez explained that the intervention is one of several measures being implemented by the Ministry of Energy to address challenges within the power distribution network in different parts of the State.

“This is just one of many replacements and upgrades we are carrying out. Our goal is to ensure stable and reliable electricity access for our people,” he said.

He thereby urged members of the Gaa Osibi community to take collective responsibility for safeguarding the transformer and other electricity infrastructure against vandalism, stressing that public cooperation is critical to the sustainability of government interventions.

Engr. AbdulGaniy further assured residents that more communities across Kwara State will benefit from similar interventions in the near future, as the government remains committed to improving energy infrastructure and supporting socio-economic development.

He added that "the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, continues to prioritise investments in critical infrastructure to enhance the quality of life of residents across the State.

*KWSG Advances Renewable Energy Initiative with Proposed Site Inspection*

The Kwara State Government has again continued its drive towards the actualisation of a sustainable renewable energy project with the technical inspection and survey of a viable expanse of land proposed for a solar farm to boost socio-economic development across the State.

The Kwara State Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, disclosed this on Tuesday during a technical inspection and courtesy visit to the Elerin of Erin-Ile, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye Adetona I, at his private residence in Ilorin, after which the team proceeded to Erin-Ile for the inspection of the proposed site.

Engr. AbdulGaniy explained that the inspection exercise is part of the State Government’s strategic efforts to identify technically and environmentally suitable locations for the deployment of solar energy infrastructure, aimed at improving electricity supply, stimulating economic activities, and enhancing the overall quality of life of residents.

According to him, the exercise is a follow-up to earlier inspections of proposed sites across the State, by the representatives of Energy China and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on 13th November, 2025, and the recent inspection by the technical team of the Ministry on the 18th of December to different locations for data collection and energy planning, in line with the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Energy China, and Nigeria Governors’ Forum initiative.

Engr. AbdulAzeez reaffirmed the commitment of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to the development of clean, reliable, and affordable energy solutions as a key driver of socio-economic development in the State.

He added that "this inspection forms part of a broader assessment of multiple locations across the State to ensure equitable distribution of the benefits of the renewable energy project and to guarantee its long-term sustainability".

In his response, the Elerin of Erin-Ile, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye Adetona I, commended the State Government for prioritising renewable energy development and described electricity as fundamental to community growth and economic advancement.
He assured the government of full cooperation and support for the successful implementation of the project.

*KWSG Continues Renewable Energy Drive with Proposed Site Inspection*

The Kwara State Government, in its ongoing efforts to actualise a sustainable renewable energy project, has continued technical inspection and survey of a viable expanse of land for the proposed solar energy project in the State.

The Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, stated this today at the Ohoro of Shao's Palace in Shao, Moro Local Government of the State.

Engr. AbdulGaniy said that "the site inspection is a critical step in assessing the technical and environmental suitability of proposed sites to ensure the successful deployment of solar infrastructure that will improve power supply, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the quality of life of residents.

According to him, "this is a follow-up to the earlier visit to other proposed sites on 13th November, 2025, when representatives of Energy China and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) were in Kwara State for data collection and energy planning towards the establishment of a sustainable renewable energy project under the Federal Government’s energy master plan.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to pursuing clean, reliable, and affordable energy solutions as a catalyst for socio-economic development across the State.

He added that, "this inspection forms part of a broader assessment of multiple locations across the State to ensure equitable distribution of the benefits of the renewable energy project and to guarantee its long-term sustainability.

The Ohoro of Shao, Oba (Dr.) Job Obalowu Atolagbe, while receiving the Commissioner and his team, expressed appreciation to the State Government for its developmental initiatives in the State. He described electricity as inevitable for growth and noted that the people of Shao have continued to witness the positive impact of the present administration.

The monarch assured the government of the community’s cooperation and support for the successful ex*****on of the project.

*KWSG to Partner ECN, NGF, Energy China on Sustainable Renewable Energy*

The Kwara State Government, in its quest to promote green and sustainable energy development, has again partnered with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), and Energy China to drive economic growth and enhance the comfort of residents through viable solar energy solutions.

The Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, disclosed this during a meeting with representatives of the NGF and Energy China on data collection and energy planning for the establishment of a sustainable energy project. The meeting was held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Ilorin, yesterday.

The representative of the Director-General of the NGF, Senior Energy Economist, Mr. Idris Kuforiji, stated that Kwara is one of the three pilot states selected for the project. He noted that the initiative aims to drive the implementation of the federal Government's energy master plan in providing a lasting solution to epileptic power supply and improve the living standards of the people in the State.

“This project is a Federal Government initiative, with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum serving as the coordinating unit for the 36 states. It is a tripartite collaboration between the NGF, the Energy Commission of Nigeria, and CEIG Nigeria Co. (Energy China),” he added.

During an inspection exercise, the team visited part of the proposed site identified for the establishment of the solar farm, while inspections of other locations continue to ensure all Kwarans benefit from the project.

Also speaking, the Team Leader of Energy China, Mr. Zhang Qinzhong, said, “We are generating at least 100MW of off-grid solar power through the Government of China Aid, which will be deployed based on the viability of each site and the needs of the State. Adding that the State Government will commit to at least 15% equity, including provision of land and an enabling environment.

According to him, the proposed solar farm is economically viable, as Kwara State possesses all the necessary resources to support the initiative.

He appreciated the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his consistent commitment to the welfare and development of the people of the State.

In the same event, the Chairman of Asa Local Government, Alhaji Sheu Yahaya, represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaja Rasheedat Isiak Amasa, assured the government of the council’s full support in providing an enabling environment for the smooth ex*****on of the project, which is expected to boost the socio-economic growth of the State.

Also present were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Mr. Olaitan Afolabi; Acting Director, Electrical Engineering, Engr. Fisayo Dada; and Acting Deputy Director, Engr. Nurudeen Alao.

Others in attendance included Zhoo Wen Xuan, Li Qiong, and Zhou Ping, all representatives of Energy China.

*Kwara Govt Reiterates Commitment to Access to Sustainable Power*

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to driving access to sustainable power across the State to foster inclusive socio-economic growth.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, during the 3rd Quarter Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Hall in Ilorin, the State capital.

Engr. AbdulAzeez, while highlighting the achievements of the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, mentioned the procurement of 30 transformers of various ratings and the installation of transformers at Kulende and the Specialist Hospital at Alagbado.

He added that the relocation of a 300KVA transformer sub-station and installation of solar street lights at the School of Special Needs, Apata Yakuba; rehabilitation of the high-tension network at Babanlomo Community; and the procurement and installation of a 500KVA transformer and accessories at Radio Kwara, Ilorin, were also part of the Ministry’s key interventions.

He emphasized that the projects are more than just infrastructure, they are transforming lives and stimulating economic activities across the State. He explained that the State continues to empower communities by providing transformers, rehabilitating high-tension networks, and installing solar lighting systems.

He added that, "recently, the Kwara State House of Assembly held a Public Hearing on the Kwara State Electricity Power Sector Bill, which aims to empower the State to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently.

This landmark is a legislative effort which reflects the administration's commitment to creating a legal framework for sustainable energy development and improving access to electricity across the State.These achievements reflect the proactive and people-centred leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose vision for an energy-secure Kwara continues to uplift lives and promote development,” the Commissioner concluded.
