*KWSG Seeks Lafiagi, Patigi Emirate’s Support for 33KV Power Project*

…Says Intervention Will Strengthen Electricity Supply, Boost Economic Activities

The Kwara State Government has appealed to the Emir of Lafiagi and the traditional institution to support the successful implementation of the construction of a new dedicated 33KV overhead electricity line from the Jebba Paper Mill Injection Sub-Station to Bokungi Village, along the Lafiagi/Patigi corridor.

The Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, made the appeal during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, where he sought the cooperation and mobilisation of traditional and community leaders across the project corridor.

The project, approved by the administration of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, also includes the rehabilitation of the existing Jebba/Bacita Rural 33KV feeder.

The Commissioner explained that the intervention is aimed at strengthening the electricity network and improving the reliability of power supply to communities along the corridor.

According to him, improved electricity supply will not only enhance the quality of life of residents but also support businesses, commercial activities, local industries and other socio-economic activities across the benefiting communities.

Engr. AbdulGaniy stressed that the successful ex*****on of the project requires the cooperation and understanding of the communities, particularly in facilitating peaceful access to the project corridor.

He therefore appealed to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Lafiagi, to use his respected position to mobilise traditional and community leaders to give maximum cooperation to the contractors and technical personnel working on the project.

He also urged the benefiting communities to support the protection of project materials, equipment and infrastructure against damage, theft and other forms of disruption.

The Commissioner noted that any minor community-related concerns that may arise during the construction period should be addressed through dialogue and collaboration with the Ministry and the project team.

He assured the Emirate and the benefiting communities that the Ministry of Energy would continue to monitor the project and work with relevant stakeholders to ensure its successful and timely completion.

Engr. AbdulGaniy described the project as an investment in the future of the benefiting communities, urging residents to take ownership of the intervention and support its successful delivery.

He expressed appreciation to the Emir of Lafiagi and the traditional institution for their continued support and cooperation with the Kwara State Government, while reiterating the administration’s commitment to improving electricity infrastructure across the State.

Earlier, the Emir of Lafiagi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, appreciated His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for approving the project and assured the State Government of the continued support and cooperation of the Emirate and the benefiting communities.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Usman Ndanusa, and the Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. NnaFatima Imam, PhD, who are both from the local government area, also appreciated the Executive Governor for the project.

They noted that the intervention would significantly contribute to the economic, social and infrastructural development of the benefiting communities.

The Chairman of Edu Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, and the Chairman of Patigi Local Government Area, Hon. Ahmed Adam, urged the contractor to execute the project according to the approved specifications and required quality standards.

They also pledged their support to the Ministry and the contractor towards the successful and timely completion of the project.

Also present were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Mr. Olaitan Afolabi; Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mallam Mohammed Adam Yakub; Director of Electrical Engineering, Engr. Fisayo Dada; among others.

The event was held at the Emir of Lafiagi’s Palace in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

*IBEDC Pays Courtesy Visit to Kwara Commissioner for Energy*

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, at his office in Ilorin.

The visit provided an opportunity for the outgoing Regional Head for the Kwara Region, Engr. Akinyosoye Toyin, to formally introduce the newly posted Regional Head, Mr. Olamide Atilola, to the Commissioner.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both the Ministry and IBEDC to strengthening collaboration towards improved electricity distribution and service delivery across Kwara State.

*65KM Lafiagi–Patigi Electricity Project: Lafiagi Elders Forum Commends KWSG for Timely Intervention*

The Lafiagi Elders Forum has commended the Kwara State Government for approving the construction of the 65km Lafiagi–Patigi 33KV overhead electricity line feeder, describing the project as a timely intervention that will enhance socio-economic development in Lafiagi, Patigi and other benefiting neighbouring communities.

It will be recalled that on Friday, 31st July 2026, the Kwara State Government approved the construction of the 65km Lafiagi–Patigi 33KV overhead electricity line feeder from the Jebba Paper Mills Injection Substation to Bokungi Village, Gbugbu and other neighbouring communities, as part of efforts to improve electricity supply and stimulate economic activities across the State.

The Commissioner for Energy, Engr AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy said this today while speaking during a courtesy visit by the Lafiagi Elders Forum to the Ministry of Energy, at the Ministry’s conference hall.

Engr AbdulGaniy reiterated the State Government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the project.

The Commissioner disclosed that the project is expected to be completed within 14 weeks after mobilisation, covering 65km overhead line feeder from Jebba paper mills, Bokungi Village, Rehabilitation of Jebba/ Bacita 33KV feeder, Patigi, Gbugbu and other neighboring Communities.

He explained that stakeholder and community engagement meetings would be organised with the contractor and relevant communities, particularly to address security and other issues that may arise during the ex*****on of the project.

Engr. AbdulAzeez urged the people of Lafiagi and other benefiting communities to cooperate with the contractor and ensure the safety of personnel working on the project.

He assured the elders that all benefiting communities would be adequately catered for, stressing that the intervention was designed to address the longstanding electricity needs of the people and support the socio-economic development of the area.

Earlier, the Kwara State Commissioner for Youth Development, Ambassador Ndanusa Usman Shehu, commended the Lafiagi Elders Forum for the appreciation visit and for recognising the administration’s interventions in the community.

Amb. Ndanusa said “the electricity project is a significant intervention that would positively impact the socio-economic development of Lafiagi by creating a more conducive environment for businesses, innovation and youth enterprise”.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Social Development, Dr. Mariam NnaFatima Imam, urged the people of Lafiagi to continue to support and engage constructively with the State Government, noting that community ownership and cooperation are essential to the successful implementation and sustainability of government projects.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Lafiagi Elders Forum, Justice Adams Idris (Rtd.), commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

In his words, “this is a timely intervention through the extension of electricity to Lafiagi and its neighbouring communities”.

He also expressed the willingness of the forum to work hand in hand with the contractor and the Ministry of Energy to ensure the successful implementation and completion of the project.

KWSG Approves Procurement and Installation of Transformers in Opete, Aladere, Eleko and Aiyetoro Communities

The Kwara State Government has approved the procurement and installation of new electricity transformers for Opete Community in Asa Local Government Area as part of its ongoing commitment to improving access to reliable power supply across the state.

The Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez Kola AbdulGaniy, disclosed this on Monday in Opete, Ogele Ward, Asa Local Government Area, while delivering the newly procured transformer to the approved site.

According to him, the effort is also geared towards strengthening electricity infrastructure, addressing power supply challenges in the community, and supporting socio-economic development through improved access to electricity.

The Commissioner urged the benefiting community to safeguard the transformer against vandalism and ensure its proper maintenance for the benefit of residents.

He added that Aiyetoro Community, along Asadam Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area,Elega Community as well as Magaji Aladere Community in Asa Local Government Area, have also been approved to receive new transformers as part of the government's effort to improve electricity supply access across the state.

Earlier, the member representing Afon Constituency, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Yunus Oniboki and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asa Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullateef Oniyo, commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his unwavering commitment to delivering impactful projects to communities across the state.

He congratulated the benefiting communities, describing the transformer installation as a significant intervention that will improve power supply, enhance commercial activities, and promote the overall development of the benefiting Communities.

Also present at the event were the Head of Store and Procurement, Kwara State Ministry of Energy, Mr. Oladimeji Abiodun; the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Usman Zubair; and other officials of the Ministry.
