HON. KELECHI OFURUM HOLDS CONSTITUENCY BRIEFING WITH OWERRI NORTH CONSTITUENTS, HIGHLIGHTS ACHIEVEMENTS AND REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT.

The Deputy Chief Whip of the Imo State House of Assembly and Member representing Owerri North State Constituency, Hon. Kelechi Ofurum, has held a well-attended Constituency Briefing with leaders, stakeholders, party faithfuls, and constituents of Owerri North.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ofurum expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his fatherly love and unwavering support for members of the Imo State House of Assembly. He further pledged his continued loyalty and full support to the Governor as he pilots the affairs of Imo State.
Hon. Ofurum also thank APC leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders, community leaders, party faithfuls, Church leaders and the people of Owerri North for their unwavering support, advice, prayers, and cooperation since his inauguration on June 16, 2023. He explained that the briefing, though delayed, was necessitated by prolonged pre and post election litigations, which have now been successfully resolved.
The lawmaker used the opportunity to present a brief account of his stewardship in the Imo State House of Assembly, reiterating his pledge not to fail or disappoint his constituents.
Hon. Ofurum disclosed that he currently serves as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Imo State House of Assembly, a position through which he has actively contributed to legislative business. He highlighted several motions he sponsored, including motions calling for the mandatory adoption of the Social Security Identity Number in Imo State, the rehabilitation of key roads in Emekuku, Emii, Ulakwo, and Umugakwo, Umuoba Uratta, as well as a motion commending Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma for the reconstruction of the Naze Timber Market Road. He also noted that he has co-sponsored over thirty bills and motions in the House.
On committee assignments, Hon. Ofurum stated that he serves as Chairman, House Committee on Mines and Solid Minerals, Chairman, House Committee on Power and Rural Electrification, Vice Chairman, House Committee on Housing, and a Member of the House Committee on Finance and Economy.
The lawmaker further outlined various constituency projects and empowerment programmes facilitated under his representation. These include the construction of a four-classroom block at Community Primary School, Umuoba Uratta; the drilling and construction of solar-powered boreholes in Mbaoma Emii, Umunahu Uratta, and Nkwo Umuoba Market Square Uratta; the proposed construction of open market stalls at OAU Bloc; and a ₦1 million donation to the Umugakwo General Assembly for the renovation of its Assembly Hall.
In the area of empowerment and social intervention, Hon. Ofurum disclosed that 64 constituents were empowered with POS machines, accessories, and ₦50,000 start-up capital each, alongside facilitation of employment opportunities within Imo State Government ministries and agencies. He also highlighted educational support for youths, including assistance with university and polytechnic admissions, as well as the distribution of palliatives, cash, and gift items to vulnerable groups and associations across Owerri North.
Hon. Ofurum reaffirmed his commitment purposeful representation, assuring constituents of continued dedication to their welfare and the overall development of Owerri North State Constituency.
In response to his address, leaders of the party and constituents of Owerri North unanimously commended Hon. Ofurum for his commendable performance and encouraged him to do more, while pledging their continued and unwavering support.
The constituency briefing which took place on 23 December, 2025 at Owerri North L.G.A. Council Headquarters, was graced by several eminent personalities and leaders from across Owerri North and beyond. Notable among them were Chief Sir Henry Njoku (Harritex – Ikeoha); Prince Dr. Alex Mbata; Hon. Lucky Abaraonye, Executive Chairman of Owerri North Local Government Area; HRH Eze Jude Nwaogu, Chairman, Owerri North Council of Traditional Rulers, alongside other traditional rulers from the local government.
Also in attendance were Dr. Mrs. Julie Onyeukwu, former Chairman, Imo State Civil Service Commission; Dr. Mrs. Julie Egbo, Executive Vice Chairman, Owerri North LGA; Hon. Dr. Henry Agbasonu, Member Representing Ezinihite Mbaise State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly; Hon. Tony Umezuruike (Aririerimba); Hon. Kelechi Azuike, APC Chairman, Owerri North LGA; Hon. Lambert Iwueke; Ven. Ben Ozioma Ejiekpe, Vicar/Archdeacon, St. Titus Anglican Church, Umuoba Uratta North Archdeaconry; members of the Owerri North Legislative Council, party faithfuls, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
At the conclusion of the constituency briefing, Hon. Kelechi Ofurum extended Christmas goodwill to his constituents by donating money and over two hundred (200) bags of rice for distribution amongst Owerri North State constituents that attended the event and other people in their various communities. He urged them to judiciously manage the token, describing it as a modest expression of love and solidarity in the spirit of the Christmas season.
