DEPUTY GOVERNOR PROF. PLACID NJOKU COMMENDS UMUEZEALA COMMUNITY IN AMAIMO IKEDURU LGA FOR WOMEN ACQUISITION SKILLS PROGRAMME AND EMPOWEREMENT.
Umuezeala in Umuohe, Amachara, Amaimo in Ikeduru LGA has been applauded for their family support project where their women are being trained on Confectionaries (Cake making, bread making, solid soap making, disinfectant making, liquid soap making, decoration, event planning and others).
The Umuezeala women skills acquisition programme which was solely sponsored by Engr. Stanley Anyanwu (Ebekuo D**e), a community builder, has been commended by many as a development alternative for Umuezeala community.
The special guest of honour at the event and Deputy Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Prof. Placid Njoku, who was in a good excitement, commended the sponsor of the programme Engr. Stanley Anyanwu, (Ebekuo D**e) for aligning the initiative with the governors Shared Prosperity programme which is empowering the people to be economically active.
Speaking at the event, the deputy governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties Chief Dr. Sir Okey Anukwuem, advised the community to extend the programme by including the male gender. He said, if you can sustain this programme without bias to keep our youths busy, that the economy of this community and that of Imo state will be positively affected.
Dr. Anukwuem, while speaking, admonished the graduands to make sure that what they have leant and all the efforts put in will never be a waste. He said, “I encourage you with all the support you have received through this programme to move in and make this community proud”. He also said, remember, the community and the sponsor love you so much, they want your progress and that is why you were selected among thousands that were interested in the training, so don’t disappoint them, he stated.
The commissioner for Special Duties, also informed the graduands that Engr. Stanley Anyanwu, EBEKUO D**E who he know very well has many plans to sustain the programme beyond this first batch with many benefits, and asked the beneficiaries to utilize this rare privilege to better their lives and their families. “I want you to know that our economy is in bad shape, you will never understand this opportunity offered to you until you begin to make money through what you have learnt in the last two months and begin to solve your immediate needs without asking for help anymore”.
The representative of the deputy governor also stated that the state government under the able leadership of His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, is encouraging communities to key into initiatives and programmes that will empower their communities economically. He then introduced the One Kindred, One Business Initiative (OKOBI) of the state government to Umuezeala community. He said, OKOBI policy is an initiative of the government through the office of the Chief Economic Adviser, Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi based on the Umunna System where kindreds or groups can gather together to form, own and manage a business. He said that OKOBI is being promoted by the state government through the office of the chief economic adviser, to address the challenges of unemployment and to engage and transform communities by uncovering the wealth of untapped economic opportunities that abound. He said that time has gone when people stay idle and wait for government to provide everything for them. What you have done so far is exactly what OKOBI is all about, he continued and said that if other communities in Imo state can emulate your style Imo state in no due time will experience economic growth, insecurity and crime will be reduced to the barest minimum. He encouraged the Umuezeala empowerment team to take advantage of registering these various skills as cooperatives with the Ministry of Trade and Investment in order to attract government and international incentives.
Dr. Anukwuem concluded his speech by informing Umuezeala youths to visit ministry of Digital Economy and E-Government to register for Skill-Up Imo programme where thousands of Imo Youths are being trained in different digital skills.
Mr. Nkem Nze, the programme coordinator in his opening remarks, stated that what we see today started as a discussion between Engr. Stanley Anyanwu, and other sons and daughters of Umuezeala community in diaspora who came together to energize their resources for the progress and development of Umuezeala, and through that engagements came the birth of this Umuezeala family support project in just two months. He said that Engr. Stanley Anyanwu has informed the community that his schoolmates from Bulgaria are interested in supporting the programme because of the zeal and commitment exhibited so far from the students. He stated that the programme is purely economic empowerment and that all the graduands will go home with their empowerment kits and financial support. He said that the programme was organized by a small family unit called Umuezela and appreciated the sponsor who is always eager to make Umuezeala, Umuohe in Amachara Amaimo the most progressive in Imo state.
Other people who spoke during the event are the President General of Amaimo Autonomous community, Prince Emma Alaribe, the GLO of Umuezeala autonomous community, Chief Dr. John Nwike, Dr. Nkemka Happiness Unaegbu, Nee Nwigwe, Chief Emenike Njoku, Mrs Theresa Anyanwu, wife of Engr. Stanley Anyanwu and Eze Godwin Ezirim Nwebo, Duruigbo II of Amaimo autonomous community.
The highlight of the event was the inspection of the cake, bread, solid soap, disinfectant, liquid soap, produced by the graduands, cutting of the cake and a Royal blessing from Eze Godwin Ezirim, Duruigbo II of Amaimo.
