Agbaje Presents 500 Free GCE Forms to Indigent Students, Graduates Summer Vocational Trainees in Ayobo-Ipaja

The Executive Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Dr. Lukmon Abiodun Agbaje has presented 500 free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to indigent students as part of his administration’s continued efforts to promote access to education and empower young people.

The presentation ceremony also featured the graduation of participants in the council’s summer vocational training programme, underscoring the administration’s commitment to both academic development and practical skills acquisition.

Speaking at the event, Agbaje said the educational support initiative was designed to help young people pursue their academic aspirations and secure a brighter future.

While congratulating the beneficiaries, the chairman urged them to take their examinations seriously and strive for excellent results, noting that their performance would encourage the council to sustain and expand its investment in education.

Agbaje disclosed that beneficiaries who perform exceptionally well in the GCE examination would be supported with free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms, while students who record outstanding UTME scores would have their tertiary institution acceptance fees paid by the council.

He recalled that the council had previously distributed 500 free JAMB forms to students, stressing that the latest intervention further demonstrated his administration’s commitment to reducing financial barriers to education, particularly for students from less-privileged backgrounds.

The chairman also commended the summer vocational training programme, describing it as a “catch them young” initiative designed to engage students productively during the holiday period. He noted that equipping young people with practical skills would enhance their future prospects while reducing their exposure to negative influences and criminal tendencies.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chairman of the council, Hon. Ladi Oluwaloni charged the beneficiaries to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies, assuring them that hard work and determination would position them for a successful future.

Oluwaloni further disclosed that scholarship opportunities would be available to students who distinguish themselves by obtaining five A’s in relevant core subjects. He urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the council.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Ahmad Olayinka Yusuf, reminded the students that “education is not a scam,” encouraging them to reciprocate the council’s gesture by dedicating themselves to their studies and striving for outstanding results.

He maintained that with commitment, discipline, and determination, the beneficiaries could achieve their educational ambitions, urging them to return with excellent grades in their various subjects.

The Council Manager, Mrs. Funmibi Bankole-Bawa described education as one of the greatest legacies an administration could give to young people.

She commended the chairman for his sustained investment in education and youth development, noting that the presentation of 500 GCE forms represented another significant intervention towards creating greater educational opportunities for indigent students.

Mrs Bankole-Bawa also praised the summer vocational trainees for their commitment and dedication throughout the training period.

As part of the ceremony, the chairman, accompanied by dignitaries and members of the council’s management team, inspected the various practical projects undertaken by the trainees during the programme.

The participants received training in a range of vocational skills, including cake baking and decoration, hairdressing, farming, gele tying and decoration, sewing, and soap making.

Certificates of participation were subsequently presented to the trainees, while selected beneficiaries received symbolic presentations of the free GCE forms on behalf of the 500 students who will benefit from the initiative.

The event was attended by the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Mrs. Adekanye Olufunke; Special Adviser on Education, Hon. Mrs. Afolabi Rachel; other political office holders, members of the Council Management Team , Program instructors, Parents, and other key stakeholders.
