CYPI HOLDS SOUTHERN ZONE SENSITISATION MEETING IN LANGTANG NORTH AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS.
The Christian Youths in Politics Initiative (CYPI) convened a Southern Zone Sensitisation Meeting in Langtang North, Plateau State, on Sunday, April 19, 2026, as part of efforts to mobilise and prepare Christian youths for active participation in the 2027 General Elections.
The meeting drew participation from CAN officials in the Southern Zone, CYPI leaders at zonal, local government and unit levels, former members of the House of Representatives, youth coordinators, and grassroots mobilisers.
In his address, CYPI National Chairman, SamChris Mafuyai, emphasised the need for intentional, value-driven political engagement. He urged members to recognise their roles as key stakeholders and delegates in the electoral process, stressing that 2027 must be a decisive moment for Plateau State.
A recurring message throughout the meeting was the call for a clear choice: “This time, we will not vote for darkness; we will vote for light.” The Chairman linked the state’s current challenges—including insecurity, kidnappings, and governance issues—to leadership and civic decisions, urging participants to consciously reject “darkness” and embrace “light,” which he described as peace, security, justice, accountability, and effective leadership.
Leaders across all levels were directed to intensify grassroots mobilisation, ensure voter readiness, and promote accountability in political choices. Structured data collection tools were also distributed to help compile accurate voter information and encourage timely voter registration among members.
CAN officials present at the meeting discouraged voter apathy and called on youths to take responsibility for the future of Plateau State through responsible civic participation.
CYPI also outlined its forward strategy, announcing plans to extend sensitisation meetings to the Northern and Central zones, culminating in a statewide meeting before the primaries. The group stated it would adopt and support candidates who reflect integrity, competence, and accountability after the primaries.
The meeting ended with a unified message: a commitment to mass participation, grassroots mobilisation, and informed voting to ensure what CYPI describes as a transition of Plateau State “from darkness to light” in the 2027 elections.
