NO MORE CONFUSION: BUGAMA CLEARS THE AIR, SAYS ALL FERTILIZER NOW ₦20,000 IN PLATEAU

The Plateau State Government has set the record straight.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Samson Bugama, says every farmer in Plateau will now buy fertilizer at ₦20,000 per 50kg bag not ₦31,200.
The clarification comes after reports that some farmers were buying at a higher rate, creating confusion across the 17 LGAs.
“We Started At ₦31,200, But His Excellency Said No”
Speaking to journalists, Hon. Bugama explained how the initial price came about.
“When the fertilizers were procured, His Excellency put together a team to determine a pricing that would give farmers about 40% subsidy,” he said.
“After deliberations, the committee came up with ₦31,200. So when we kicked off sales because the season was already going, that was the price.”
But after a review and direct feedback from the field, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang stepped in.
“And so when we did a review and got back to His Excellency, he magnanimously decided that the price of fertilizer should go down to ₦20,000 so that we can create margins for our people to be able to make profit,” Bugama revealed.
Sale At ₦20K Starts Tomorrow. Refunds For Early Buyers
According to the Commissioner, the new directive takes effect from tomorrow morning.
“Every person who gets a text message should go and buy at ₦20,000, not ₦31,200,” he said.
The Ministry is also making arrangements to refund farmers who already bought at ₦31,200.
“If anybody bought for more than ₦31,200, let us know so we can look at that center and clean it up,” Hon. Bugama warned.
“By tomorrow we will swing into action to see the possibilities of refunding those people who were deceived. We will not cut them off from the magnanimity of His Excellency.”

For Gov. Mutfwang’s administration, agriculture is not just policy it’s survival.
With input costs skyrocketing nationwide, the Governor’s decision to absorb more of the cost is aimed at:
1. Reducing production costs for farmers
2. Improving yields in the 2026 farming season
3. Increasing profit margins so farming remains attractive to youths
4. Strengthening food security across Plateau
Government’s Assurance
Hon. Bugama assured farmers that monitoring teams have been deployed to all distribution centers to ensure compliance and prevent diversion.
He urged farmers to report any center selling above ₦20,000, saying the administration will not tolerate sabotage of the Governor’s intervention.
“This is the commitment of Gov. Mutfwang: that Plateau farmers must plant in peace, harvest in abundance, and sell at a profit. That is how we build a better Plateau,” Bugama said.
