Wet Season Farming: Creating the Conditions for Farmers to Farm Safely

The Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs is strengthening collaboration with security agencies, traditional institutions and communities to address one of the key conditions for productive agriculture: a safe environment for farmers to cultivate.

The Honourable Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, recently engaged key security and community stakeholders as part of efforts to consolidate peace and strengthen protection for farming communities and agricultural investments across the state.

The engagements included strategic discussions with the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase; the Garrison Commander, Brigadier General Auwal Abdullahi; and the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy School of Armament Technology (NNSAT), Kachia, Commodore Chikaji A. Isah.

The discussions focused on strengthening coordination among security actors and ensuring that farmers can access their farmlands and carry out agricultural activities without fear.

At the community level, the Commissioner also met with the Agwom Kachia, His Royal Highness Zamani Dogonyaro, reinforcing the role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace, identifying emerging concerns and strengthening relationships between communities and security agencies.

The Agwom expressed appreciation for the visit and noted that Kachia Chiefdom has recently experienced relative peace and stability. He also commended the Kaduna State Government for its interventions in the area, including support for the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and the construction of the road leading to the institution.

These engagements are particularly significant as the state implements agricultural interventions under the food-security agenda of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, including the provision of free fertiliser to farmers.

The approach is straightforward: agricultural support must go hand in hand with security.

Through continued coordination between security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities, the Kaduna State Government is working to consolidate existing peace gains and create the conditions for farmers to cultivate safely, contribute to food production and strengthen the state’s agricultural economy.

STRENGTHENING PEACE, ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME

Peace is often sustained long before a security agency is called in — through conversations, early intervention, trust-building and communities having the confidence to resolve differences peacefully.

This was at the heart of a familiarisation visit by the Community Dialogue Committee to the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

Led by its Chairman, Samaila Isah, the committee visited the Ministry to familiarise itself with its operations and explore opportunities for stronger collaboration in promoting peace and community engagement.

The visit comes against the backdrop of growing recognition of the importance of community-led approaches to peacebuilding in Kaduna State.

Community Dialogue Committees have previously been used in Kaduna to strengthen community participation in peacebuilding, including efforts to increase women’s involvement in mediation and local conflict-resolution processes.

Receiving the committee, the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shu’aibu SAN, welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between government and grassroots peace actors.

He noted that communities are often best placed to understand the issues affecting them and that government is more effective when local stakeholders are part of identifying problems and developing solutions.

The engagement is consistent with The Governor of Kaduna State’s Peace Model, which emphasizes dialogue, inclusion, community partnership, intelligence-led security and cooperation among government, traditional institutions, security agencies and grassroots stakeholders.

For Kaduna, the value of such partnerships is simple: when communities have platforms to speak, listen and resolve tensions early, peace becomes a shared responsibility rather than a task left to government and security agencies alone.

The Ministry’s engagement with the Community Dialogue Committee therefore provides an opportunity to strengthen existing grassroots structures and turn dialogue into practical action for safer and more resilient communities.

UBA WIN PROJECT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO KADUNA’S COMMUNITIES

A statewide network can become more meaningful when it is used to connect communities with solutions.

That was one of the key messages from the UBA Win Project during a courtesy visit to the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

Led by its Director-General/Convener, Hon. Muktar Zubairu (Sadaukin Hayin Dogo), the delegation briefed the Honourable Commissioner, Alhaji Sule Shu’aibu SAN, on the activities of the UBA Win Project and its presence across all 23 Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

The delegation also reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting the Executive Governor, Senator Uba Sani, and contributing to initiatives that benefit communities across the state.

For the Ministry, such networks can provide an important avenue for strengthening communication between government and citizens, particularly when community-level concerns need to be identified early and channelled to the appropriate authorities.

Responding, Commissioner Sule Shu’aibu SAN welcomed the commitment of the project and emphasised that government cannot achieve sustainable security and development without the active participation of citizens and community stakeholders.

He noted that partnerships that extend government’s reach into communities can help build trust, improve information flow and support the collective responsibility required to maintain peace.

The engagement reflects the wider direction of The Governor of Kaduna State’s which has consistently promoted a people-centred approach to security : combining security operations with community engagement, dialogue, socio-economic recovery and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.

The real opportunity now is to move from presence to impact: ensuring that the UBA Win Project’s reach across Kaduna’s 23 LGAs can complement existing government efforts and translate into meaningful support for communities.

AKURDA SEEKS STRONGER PARTNERSHIP WITH KADUNA SECURITY MINISTRY

The search for lasting peace in Kaduna State is increasingly creating space for communities and government to work together and a courtesy visit by the Akurmi Development Association (AKURDA) to the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs is another step in that direction.

The association, led by its Acting President, Ustaz Yunus Bawa Ja’afar (Kilishin Kudaru), paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner, Sule Shu’aibu SAN, to explore areas of collaboration with the Ministry. The organization also requested the commissioner, Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, to be its patron, which he graciously accepted.

The engagement is significant because sustainable security goes beyond the response of security agencies. It also requires communities to identify emerging concerns, communicate them through the right channels and work with government to address issues before they escalate.

Receiving the delegation, Commissioner Sule Shu’aibu SAN welcomed the association’s interest in working with the Ministry and stressed the importance of community participation in strengthening peace and security across Kaduna State.

He said the Ministry remains open to constructive partnerships with community-based organisations whose activities contribute to peace, stability and stronger relationships between citizens and government.

The engagement also aligns with The Governor of Kaduna State’s broader Kaduna Peace Model, which places dialogue, inclusion, community engagement and coordinated action at the centre of the state’s approach to security. Senator Uba Sani has repeatedly emphasised that no single institution can tackle security challenges in isolation.

For AKURDA and the Ministry, the next step is therefore not simply the courtesy visit, but turning the goodwill expressed into practical collaboration that can strengthen communication, community resilience and peaceful coexistence.

Ministry, Nana Advocacy Foundation Partner to Strengthen Community Peacebuilding

The Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to working with civil society organisations to strengthen peacebuilding and community resilience across Kaduna State.

The Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, stated this while receiving a delegation from the Nana Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation, led by its Executive Director, Aisha Yahaya Ibrahim.

Responding to the delegation, the Commissioner commended the Foundation for its work in empowering women, youths and vulnerable communities. He encouraged the organisation to expand its programmes to grassroots communities, noting that sustained community engagement and empowerment play a critical role in preventing crime, promoting social cohesion and building lasting peace across the state.

The Foundation explained that its visit was to explore collaboration with the Ministry in advancing peacebuilding initiatives that align with the Ministry’s mandate.

Ministry, NDLEA Deepen Collaboration to Combat Drug Abuse and Related Crimes

The Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs has reiterated its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in combating drug abuse and related crimes across the state.

The commitment was made by the Honourable Commissioner, Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, during a courtesy visit by the NDLEA Kaduna Command, led by the Zonal Commander, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, Hassan Idris Sakaba.

The Commissioner commended the NDLEA for its recent operational successes, seizures of arms and ammunitions and the destruction of illicit drugs and other enforcement breakthroughs, noting that such efforts contribute significantly to reducing drug abuse and improving public safety. He encouraged the Agency to sustain intelligence sharing, strengthen inter-agency collaboration and continue upholding the rule of law in the fight against drug-related offences.

Earlier, the NDLEA delegation called for stronger synergy with the Ministry to enhance coordinated responses to security challenges linked to drug trafficking and abuse.

The Governor of Kaduna State has consistently prioritised collaborative security approaches that bring together relevant agencies to address emerging threats. His administration’s support for inter-agency cooperation continues to strengthen the state’s capacity to tackle drug abuse, protect communities and promote lasting peace and security across Kaduna State.

Ministry, Kaduna State University Explore Forensic Collaboration to Strengthen Criminal Justice

The Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs has expressed its readiness to collaborate with Kaduna State University (KASU) to strengthen forensic science, research and criminal justice administration in the state.

The Honourable Commissioner, Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from Kaduna State University led by the Provost, College of Computing, Engineering and Sciences, Professor Cyril Gwazah Afuwai.

The Commissioner disclosed that Kaduna State already has a forensic laboratory equipped with modern facilities and stated that strategic partnerships with academic institutions would enhance its utilisation for research, capacity building and criminal investigations. He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s support in advancing collaborations that will improve justice delivery and security in the state.

The Ministry’s Head of ICT, Musa Luka, further explained that the forensic laboratory is equipped with modern fingerprint and forensic investigation facilities, making Kaduna one of the few states in Northern Nigeria with such infrastructure.

The delegation sought collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the University’s Forensic Science programme, particularly in providing practical learning opportunities and advancing research in forensic technology.

Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mining Development Company Strengthen Partnership to Address Illegal Mining

The Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening coordination in the mining sector to tackle illegal mining and improve security across mineral-rich communities in the state.

This assurance was given by the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, during a courtesy visit by the Kaduna State Mining Development Company, led by its Overseer, Mr. Solomon Caleb Guruza.

Responding to the delegation, the Commissioner noted that Kaduna State is endowed with over 70 identified mineral deposits and stressed that the government remains committed to ensuring that these resources contribute meaningfully to the state’s development. He acknowledged that illegal mining continues to pose security and economic challenges but assured the delegation that the Ministry, through His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, will continue to strengthen collaboration and support ongoing efforts to address the challenges.
