I had the honour of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kaduna State Ultra-Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal along the Eastern Bypass in Chikun Local Government Area, alongside His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, CON.
The proposed 20-hectare facility, envisioned to be the largest inter-state bus terminal in Nigeria, is a bold and commendable intervention. It speaks directly to long-standing challenges of congestion, insecurity, and disorder that have characterised inter-state transportation, while laying a solid foundation for safer, more efficient mobility across Kaduna State.
I commend His Excellency for this forward-looking initiative and respectfully offer the following recommendations to further maximise its impact:
Integrated Security Architecture: The inclusion of a technology-driven security framework—CCTV surveillance, a central command centre, and collaboration with security agencies—will further enhance passenger safety and confidence.
Intermodal Connectivity: Linking the terminal seamlessly with intra-city transport systems and future rail developments will position Kaduna as a true regional transport hub.
Private Sector Participation: Structured public-private partnerships (PPPs) in terminal management and maintenance can ensure efficiency, sustainability, and global best practices.
Economic Inclusion: Prioritising local content and allocating designated spaces for SMEs, transport unions, and informal operators will stimulate job creation and inclusive economic growth.
Digital Ticketing and Operations: The adoption of smart ticketing, route scheduling, and passenger information systems will improve transparency, reduce touting, and enhance user experience.
This project reflects a clear commitment to reform, order, and progress in the transport sector.
I am confident that, when completed, the Kaduna State Ultra-Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal will stand as a benchmark for transport infrastructure development in Nigeria.
I congratulate His Excellency once again and wish the project timely completion and lasting success.
