Over the weekend, the Special Adviser on Social Investment Programmes Barr Bridget Sulaiman represented by Dogon Biya Sylvanus, Head of Operations at the Kaduna State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU), at the Zakat Distribution organised by the Zakkat & Waqaf Foundation Kaduna, held at Sultan Bello Mosque, Unguwar Sarki.

In collaboration with our office, beneficiaries were drawn from the Kaduna State Social Register to ensure transparency and the accurate identification of Poor and Vulnerable Households (PVHHs) for need-based targeting. Each household received ₦50,000 in Zakkat support, demonstrating how data-backed systems can deepen the impact of faith-based humanitarian efforts.

We commend Chairman & Founder, Abdullahi Salihu Haladu, for this strategic alignment between religious giving and structured social protection. It exemplifies how partnerships rooted in compassion and evidence can deliver meaningful change.

This week, we had the honour of hosting Dr. Funmi Olotu, National Coordinator of the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO), on an official visit to Kaduna State.

As part of her visit, we took a field trip to Kakuri community in Kaduna South LGA, a vibrant, densely populated semi- urban area.

It was a powerful opportunity to showcase our data driven interventions but the true highlight was hearing first-hand from beneficiaries about the real impact social investment programmes are making in their lives.

Their stories served as a strong reminder of the importance of designing with purpose, implementing with implementing with integrity and scaling with impact that truly uplift communities.

The Special Adviser on Social Investment Programmes to the Kaduna State Governor, proudly represented the state as a Special Guest at the 4th African Youth Conference held in Abuja.

Themed “We Are Stars: Thriving in a World of Limitless Opportunities,” the conference was convened by UNESCO, ECOWAS, and the Genda Foundation, bringing together youth leaders and stakeholders from across Africa.

She highlighted Kaduna State’s bold commitment to youth empowerment through inclusive social investment programmes and the recent establishment of the Kaduna State Ministry of Youth under the visionary leadership of Governor Uba Sani.

📍 Abuja Visit Update

As a follow-up from the PCD Stakeholder Workshop on Food Systems Transformation, The Special Adviser, Social Investment Programmes paid a strategic visit to the National Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope – National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP) in Abuja.

This high-level engagement focused on strengthening collaborations around food systems, with special emphasis on agriculture development and education; key pillars for sustainable growth and inclusive development in Kaduna State.

Key highlights of the visit include:

•Leveraging an updated list of beneficiaries to enhance targeting and accountability

Strengthening Local Impact Through Strategic Partnerships

The Special Adviser to the Kaduna State Governor on Social Investment Programmes paid a courtesy and working visit to Alh. Garba Baba Gambo, the Coordinator of the State Office Coordinating Unit (SOCU-FCT) and Chairman of the SOCU Coordinators Forum in Nigeria.

The visit centred on deepening collaboration and leveraging Alh Gambo's expertise to build the capacity of the 23 LGA Chairmen in Kaduna State on the effective use of the State Social Register (SSR) and implementation of Social Investment Programmes.

Alh Gambo reaffirmed his support and commitment to strengthening data systems and local structures to ensure that social protection efforts are accurate, inclusive, and impactful.

Speaking on the Sideline of the Distribution at the Kaduna South Local Government Secretariat, the Special Adviser to the Governor Uba Sani on Social Investment Programmes Bridget Suleiman, said the Drive was not just about giving, but Restoring Dignity.

The Special Adviser on Social Investment Programmes, Bridget Sulaiman attended the Stakeholders Workshop on Catalyzing Community-Driven Food System Transformation through School Feeding in Nigeria, hosted by the Partnership for Child Development (PCD).

The workshop focused on school feeding being a powerful tool to boost local agriculture, strengthen rural economies and drive inclusive development, which aligns with Uba Sani’s agenda for agricultural revitalization and rural transformation in Kaduna State.

contributing to this important dialogue, emphasized that school feeding is more than a meal; it is a strategy for community development, economic inclusion, and long-term impact.

In continuation of strategic engagements, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Investments Programmes, Barr. Bridget Sulaiman, joined Mr. Abdullahi Alhassan Imam, National Programme Manager, National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO), his team, and Mrs Sola Afolayan, Country Lead, BRAC Ultra-Poor Graduation Initiative (UPGI), Nigeria, for a high-level meeting focused on the implementation of the BRAC Ultra-Poor Graduation Approach.

The approach presents a sustainable, evidence-based model for lifting extremely poor households out of poverty through livelihood support, mentoring, financial inclusion, and access to essential services. At the core is the goal of building resilient, self-reliant communities within a shock-responsive social protection framework.

This engagement reflects the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to designing and implementing scalable, impactful social protection systems that leave no one behind.
