Ambassador Dambazau Champions Academia–Industry Partnership as ABU, Shenzhen Technology University and AMA Medical Manufacturing Sign Landmark MOU

BEIJING/SHENZHEN, CHINA — In a further demonstration of his commitment to translating Nigeria–China relations into practical development outcomes, Nigeria’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency, Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, travelled from Beijing to Shenzhen to witness the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding between Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), China, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Nigeria, and AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited, Nigeria.

Ambassador Dambazau described the partnership as the kind of collaboration he has consistently advocated: a purposeful partnership that brings together academia, research and industry to move knowledge from the laboratory into practical manufacturing and solutions for society.

Under the tripartite arrangement, SZTU and ABU will provide a strong academic and research foundation, with SZTU contributing substantial technological expertise, while AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited will focus on translating research outcomes into local manufacturing and commercial applications in Nigeria.

The cooperation will cover biomedical sciences, artificial intelligence and other related disciplines, with particular emphasis on the development of pharmaceuticals and vaccines tailored to Nigeria’s local needs, clinical research in Nigeria, talent development and exchange, commercial cooperation in local manufacturing, packaging and distribution, as well as the development of biomedical research infrastructure at ABU.

The Nigerian delegation at the signing included Ambassador Dambazau; Professor Ahmed Adamu, Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University; and Dr Abdulsalami Nasidi, Chairman of AMA Medical Manufacturing Limited.

Representing the Chinese side were Professor Fu Gao, Chair of the Academic Committee of the Institute for Global Health and Microbiome, SZTU, Chair of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and former Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention; Chen Qiuming, Secretary of the Party Committee of SZTU; and Fu Jiyang, President of SZTU.

The signing represents a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria–China cooperation in healthcare, biotechnology, research, technology transfer and human-capital development. It also aligns with the broader framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), through which Nigeria and China continue to deepen cooperation in public health, pharmaceutical manufacturing and capacity building.

For Ambassador Dambazau, the significance of the partnership goes beyond the signing ceremony. It reflects a broader vision of building sustainable Nigerian capacity through knowledge transfer, research collaboration and industrialisation.

The Ambassador undertook the journey from Beijing to Shenzhen despite considerable delays experienced at the airport and upon arrival due to adverse weather conditions. A journey that would normally take just over two hours extended to almost four hours, but the Ambassador considered the trip worthwhile given the strategic importance of the partnership.

The visit also provided an opportunity to tour the BYD electric vehicle manufacturer showroom, further exposing the delegation to China's rapidly advancing capabilities in electric mobility and modern manufacturing.

Ambassador Dambazau also took note of the remarkable development of Shenzhen Technology University, a relatively young public institution established by Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Municipality. Despite being only about a decade old, the University's achievements in infrastructure, staffing, research capacity and technological equipment demonstrate the possibilities that strategic investment in education, innovation and industry can create.

The engagement is another reflection of Ambassador Dambazau’s broader diplomatic approach: connecting Nigerian institutions with credible Chinese partners, promoting technology transfer, strengthening local manufacturing and ensuring that Nigeria–China cooperation delivers lasting value for the Nigerian people.

For Nigeria, the ultimate objective is clear — research that produces solutions, technology that builds capacity, industry that creates jobs, and partnerships that bring development home.

Ambassador Dambazau Engages Belt & Road Stakeholders on Proposed US$200 Billion Nigeria–China Energy and Infrastructure Project

BEIJING, CHINA — His Excellency, Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China, received in audience Mr Wang Wanxue, Executive Deputy Director of the Belt & Road Smart City Development Committee, Beijing, and Mr Samuel Uko, Chief Executive Officer of De Sadel Nig Ltd, for discussions on a proposed major energy and infrastructure project in Nigeria.

The engagement focused on the proposed “Energy for Infrastructure” Integrated High-Speed Rail Project, which De Sadel Nig Ltd and China Liancai Petroleum Holdings Ltd have entered into a bilateral cooperation agreement to pursue, with a stated project budget of US$200 billion.

The proposed initiative envisages extensive cooperation between Nigeria and China in the areas of energy and infrastructure and is presented as being consistent with the principles of the Memorandum of Understanding on Belt and Road Cooperation signed between Nigeria and China in 2018.

The delegation sought the support of the Embassy in advancing the process. Ambassador Dambazau reaffirmed the Embassy’s willingness to support legitimate initiatives that can contribute to Nigeria’s development and strengthen Nigeria–China economic cooperation.

He, however, emphasised that any major initiative of this nature must be pursued with the highest standards of transparency, accountability and due process, while remaining fully aligned with Nigeria’s national interests and the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Nigeria and China established in 2024.

According to the brief presented to the Embassy, the parties are reportedly at an advanced stage of fulfilling the requirements for financing ahead of the proposed implementation of the project.

The engagement underscores Ambassador Dambazau’s continued focus on economic diplomacy, infrastructure development, energy cooperation and the mobilisation of credible investment opportunities that can translate Nigeria–China relations into tangible development outcomes.

Ambassador Dambazau Advances Nigeria–China Economic Diplomacy as DALCIMMA and Beijing Huanju Technology Sign Strategic MOU

BEIJING, CHINA — In another significant development towards strengthening Nigeria–China economic relations, the Dala Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (DALCIMMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Beijing Huanju Technology Co Ltd, operators of the UniTrade Platform.

The agreement establishes a framework for strategic cooperation aimed at expanding trade, technology applications, investment and project development between Nigerian and Chinese businesses.

The signing is consistent with the broader objectives of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Nigeria and China established in 2024, and reflects the growing emphasis on translating bilateral diplomatic relations into practical economic opportunities for businesses and investors.

Under the MOU, the parties will explore cooperation in key areas including barter trade, technology applications, investments and strategic projects, with the aim of facilitating stronger commercial connections between enterprises in both countries.

A major component of the agreement is the commitment by UniTrade to open its A2A intelligent trading platform to DALCIMMA and its verified enterprises. The platform will provide access to AI-assisted procurement and sales matchmaking services, supplier and buyer databases, as well as Request for Quotation (RFQ) matching services covering import and export transactions.

The initiative is expected to provide Nigerian businesses with a more efficient digital platform for identifying credible Chinese suppliers, buyers, technology partners and investment opportunities, while creating corresponding opportunities for Chinese enterprises to access verified Nigerian businesses and the Nigerian market.

The partnership also has the potential to facilitate greater market access, technology transfer, investment mobilisation, value-chain development and private-sector collaboration.

The development further reflects the direction of Nigeria's economic diplomacy in China under the leadership of His Excellency, Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, whose engagements have consistently emphasised the need to move Nigeria–China relations beyond traditional diplomatic exchanges towards practical partnerships capable of delivering measurable value to Nigeria and Nigerians.

Ambassador Dambazau has continued to engage Chinese government institutions, major corporations, investors, financial institutions, business organisations and technology companies, with particular emphasis on trade expansion, investment attraction, industrialisation, technology transfer, skills development and opportunities for Nigerian enterprises.

The DALCIMMA–Beijing Huanju Technology agreement is therefore another important step in creating stronger institutional and private-sector linkages between Nigeria and China.

By connecting Nigerian businesses to digital trade infrastructure and potential international partners, the initiative reinforces the broader objective of positioning Nigeria to take greater advantage of China's vast market, technological capabilities and investment ecosystem.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Beijing remains committed to supporting credible initiatives that strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, promote Nigerian enterprise, facilitate investment and create sustainable opportunities for both countries.

The signing represents more than a business agreement; it is a practical demonstration of how strengthened diplomatic relations can create platforms for trade, innovation, investment and shared prosperity.

As Nigeria and China continue to deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, initiatives such as this provide a pathway towards a more connected, technology-driven and mutually beneficial economic relationship.

Ambassador Dambazau, FIN Chairperson Dr. Olayinka Fayomi Lead High-Level Nigeria–China Trade and Investment Engagements Exceeding $100 Billion

Nigeria's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, His Excellency, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (Rtd.), alongside the Chairperson and Founder of the Foreign Investment Network (FIN), Dr. Olayinka Fayomi, has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria–China trade and investment relations through high-level engagements with Chinese investors and business stakeholders.

The engagements, held at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Beijing, focused on expanding bilateral trade, attracting investment into Nigeria, promoting Nigerian exports to China, and creating stronger platforms for direct engagement between Nigerian businesses and Chinese investors.

A major focus of the discussions was Ambassador Dambazau's call for Nigerian businesses to move decisively from the export of raw commodities towards value-added production, local processing, manufacturing, and export of finished and semi-finished products capable of competing effectively in the Chinese market.

The Ambassador stressed the importance of Nigerian exporters taking advantage of China's zero-tariff arrangements for eligible products, describing it as a significant opportunity to expand Nigeria's presence in the world's largest consumer markets and address the existing trade imbalance between Nigeria and China.

“We must encourage our people to come in, bring in goods, and take full advantage of this zero-tariff regime so that we can increase our exports into China and work towards balancing our trade relation, acknowledging that China remains well ahead.”

— Lt Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (Rtd.), Ambassador of Nigeria to China

DRIVING INVESTMENT AND EXPANDING NIGERIA'S GLOBAL ECONOMIC REACH

The investment facilitation initiative was undertaken in collaboration with Foreign Investment Network (FIN), led by its Chairperson and Founder, Dr. Olayinka Fayomi, whose organisation has continued to promote Nigeria's investment opportunities across international markets.

FIN brought together a high-level delegation of potential international investors and business stakeholders to engage directly with the Nigerian Embassy and explore opportunities across strategic sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Dr. Fayomi highlighted FIN's international investment-promotion activities, including the production and dissemination of investment materials in major international languages, particularly French and Mandarin Chinese, to improve access to information about Nigeria's economic opportunities among global investors.

According to FIN, its investment-promotion activities and trade missions have contributed to attracting significant investment interest into Nigeria, while recent high-level engagements involving Nigerian representatives, Chinese investors, and FIN have resulted in the signing and presentation of investment agreements with a combined value exceeding US$100 billion.

The engagements demonstrate the growing interest of international investors in Nigeria's vast market, natural resources, human capital, infrastructure opportunities, and strategic position as a gateway to the African market.

FROM RAW MATERIALS TO VALUE-ADDED EXPORTS

At the centre of the discussions was the need for Nigeria to fundamentally strengthen its export capacity.

The stakeholders identified three major priorities for Nigerian businesses seeking to expand their presence in China and other international markets:

1. Value Addition and Local Manufacturing

Nigeria must increasingly move away from exporting raw materials and focus on processing, manufacturing, and developing high-value products that can generate greater revenue, create employment, and strengthen domestic industrial capacity.

2. Maximising China's Preferential Trade Opportunities

Nigerian producers and exporters are encouraged to understand and utilise available zero-tariff opportunities and relevant market-access arrangements for eligible Nigerian products entering China.

3. Stronger Public–Private Economic Diplomacy

Closer cooperation between government institutions, diplomatic missions, Nigerian businesses, financial institutions, and credible investment networks will be essential to facilitating trade, navigating regulatory requirements, connecting investors with viable projects, and converting investment interest into sustainable economic partnerships.

AMBASSADOR DAMBAZAU'S ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY AGENDA

The engagement forms part of Ambassador Dambazau's broader commitment to ensuring that Nigeria's strategic relationship with China produces tangible economic opportunities for Nigeria and Nigerians.

Since assuming his diplomatic responsibilities in Beijing, the Ambassador has consistently emphasized the importance of moving Nigeria–China relations beyond traditional trade patterns towards investment, technology transfer, industrialisation, skills development, local manufacturing, renewable energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and sustainable economic cooperation.

His engagements with Chinese government institutions, major corporations, investors, financial institutions, academic organisations, and business leaders reflect a deliberate effort to position the Embassy as a platform for connecting Nigeria's enormous economic potential with Chinese expertise, technology, capital, and market opportunities.

The latest engagement with FIN and Chinese investors further reinforces this direction, with emphasis on creating opportunities that can strengthen Nigeria's productive capacity, increase exports, attract investment, create jobs, and support the country's broader economic transformation agenda.

As Nigeria and China continue to deepen their bilateral relationship, the Embassy remains committed to facilitating credible partnerships that advance Nigeria's national interests, strengthen economic diplomacy, and create sustainable pathways for shared prosperity.

Nigeria's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, His Excellency, Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Dambazau, has commended a delegation of 17 Nigerian students from four schools in Abuja who participated in the iCode Competition held in Beijing on Saturday, 22 August 2026, describing their participation as a demonstration of Nigeria's enormous potential in science, technology, innovation, and human capital development.

The students, led by Glisten International Academy, Abuja, were accompanied by five chaperones and travelled to China to represent Nigeria in the international competition, showcasing their creativity, coding abilities, technological skills, problem-solving capacity, and innovative ideas alongside participants from other countries.

The Embassy was represented at the competition and expressed immense pride in the performance and conduct of the Nigerian students, whose participation provided an important platform for demonstrating the capabilities and developmental potential of Nigeria's younger generation.

Ambassador Dambazau particularly commended the Executive Director of Glisten International Academy, Engr. Following the competition, the Nigerian delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Beijing, where Ambassador Dambazau received the students and their chaperones.

While congratulating them on their performance, the Ambassador reminded the young Nigerians that academic excellence must always be accompanied by good character, discipline, responsibility, and respect for others.

> “Learning and character must always go together.”

Ambassador Dambazau further stressed the importance of exposing Nigerian children to learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom, noting that international competitions, educational exchanges, technology programmes, and cultural experiences can broaden their perspectives and help prepare them for the challenges of the future.

He also encouraged greater participation of public schools across Nigeria, particularly schools in the 36 states of the Federation, in similar international educational and technological programmes, stressing that opportunities for innovation and exposure should not be limited to a few institutions.

The Ambassador noted that Nigeria's young population represents one of the country's greatest assets and that deliberate investment in STEM education, digital skills, creativity, innovation, and character development will be critical to building the Nigeria of tomorrow.

The Embassy congratulates the students for their commendable representation of Nigeria and celebrates their courage, creativity, discipline, and determination. Their participation in Beijing is a reminder that Nigeria possesses young talents capable of competing confidently on the global stage when given the right opportunities and support.

The engagement further reflects Ambassador Dambazau's commitment to strengthening people-to-people relations between Nigeria and China, while promoting educational diplomacy, youth development, technology exchange, and opportunitiBeijing expose Nigerian students to global knowledge and innovation.

Learning must go beyond the classroom. Exposure builds confidence, technology builds capacity, and character gives knowledge purpose.
