RE: DEFECTING GROUP IS NOT OUR LOSS — CLARIFYING MISCONCEPTIONS REGARDING THE SO-CALLED "GAWUNA TEAM" AND REAFFIRMING NDC’S UNFORGETTABLE PREPARATIONS FOR 2027
The attention of the Gawuna Campaign Coordinating Team has been drawn to misleading reports and statements circulating across various media platforms alleging that "Gawuna’s bigwigs" have dumped the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and are set to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a recent solidarity visit to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
To set the record straight and protect the general public from political deceit, we categorically state that the so-called "Gawuna’s Team" making headlines had long severed ties with the official political structure of His Excellency, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna. Their departure occurred as far back as June, when their self-serving and completely unjustified personal demands were firmly turned down by H.E. Dr. Gawuna, a leader renowned for his unwavering integrity and principled politics.
The primary cause of the strain in H.E. Gawuna's relationship with these individuals arose when they unilaterally initiated covert contacts with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Acting entirely on their own volition and without the prior knowledge, consent, or authorization of Dr. Gawuna, this group attempted to entice him into accepting the ADC governorship ticket. They pledged that the ADC would fully finance his gubernatorial campaign, reserve legislative contestable slots for their personal political ambitions, and offer various other inducements.
When those initial unauthorized maneuvers collapsed, the group shifted their focus toward brokering a return to the APC. While three members of their circle chose to remain within the NDC structure, the rest continued their political shopping spree, desperate to find an alternative platform that would cater to their personal desires. Their actions have been guided by personal interest rather than any collective ideology or genuine loyalty to Dr. Gawuna.
As we earnestly build momentum and prepare for the 2027 general elections, we reassure all party members, grassroots stakeholders, and dedicated supporters that our operational strategies, campaign structures, and internal systems were fully established independent of these defecting individuals. Consequently, we harbour absolutely no fear of sensitive political information leaking or being weaponized to undermine our electoral readiness.
Furthermore, our movement continues to expand at an unprecedented rate. Day after day, the Gawuna political family welcomes high-profile political heavyweights, community leaders, and formidable grassroots mobilizers across all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State. These continuous, high-value additions have more than effectively addressed any perceived vacuum left by the exiting group, further cementing our undisputed path to victory in 2027.
We urge the good people of Kano, political observers, and the media to disregard any claims associating this group with H.E. Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna or the official NDC machinery. Our focus remains resolutely fixed on delivering purposeful leadership and driving true progress for Kano State.
