Trouble for Gov. Adeleke in Osun as Accord Party Executives Insist on Gbenga Hashim's Presidential Bid

Fresh political tension has emerged within the Accord Party in Osun State as some members of the party's state executive have openly challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke over his perceived reluctance to align with the party's national presidential project ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development is expected to complicate Adeleke's re-election calculations ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, with the party executives insisting that the governor must publicly identify with the presidential ambition of the Accord Party's flagbearer, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim.

In a joint statement issued in Osogbo, the party's State Public Relations Officer, Daniel Adedayo, and State Youth Leader, Tolulope Babalola, warned that the governor could face political consequences if he continued to distance himself from the party's national agenda.

The executives accused Adeleke of benefiting from the Accord Party platform while failing to strengthen its national political structure, insisting that every elected official and political office holder under the party has a responsibility to promote its presidential candidate.

According to them, Governor Adeleke cannot seek the support of Accord members for his re-election while declining to reciprocate by supporting the party's presidential project.

"If the governor believes President Bola Tinubu deserves another term in office in 2027, then the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, should equally be considered fit to govern Osun State," the statement read.

The executives warned that unless the governor openly identifies with Hashim's presidential bid and the party's national direction, they would have no reason to oppose the APC candidate in the governorship election.

They further maintained that Adeleke does not possess the authority to dictate the affairs of the party at the national level.
"Governor Adeleke remains only one voice among many in the party nationwide and cannot dictate for the party.

The Accord Party has a national structure, and all members are expected to respect its decisions and work towards its growth," they stated.

The latest disagreement exposes growing cracks within the Accord Party in Osun, where Adeleke is seeking a fresh mandate on the party's platform following his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Political observers believe the dispute could test the cohesion of the governor's coalition as the election draws closer, especially if efforts to reconcile the state leadership with the party's national structure fail.

The controversy also highlights the increasing prominence of Hashim's 2027 presidential project within the Accord Party, with party officials insisting that the success of the platform depends on building a united national movement rather than focusing solely on state elections.
