The Dutsinma Zone Informal Sector Revenue Collection and Monitoring Committee of the Katsina State Internal Revenue Service (KTIRS) today, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, conducted a monitoring and compliance exercise at the Kankia Local Government Weekly Market.
The visit was aimed at assessing, reviewing, and enforcing adherence to the digital collection of informal sector revenue within the area.
The Committee, led by the Executive Director, Standards and Compliance, Dr. Kabir Abdullahi Yantumaki, engaged extensively with market stakeholders to ensure that revenue collection processes are fully aligned with the digital transformation agenda of the Katsina State Government.
During the exercise, emphasis was placed on transparency, accountability, and efficiency in revenue administration. The Committee noted that the adoption of digital platforms will significantly reduce leakages, enhance compliance, and strengthen the revenue base of local government councils.
Market leaders and traders were also sensitized on the advantages of the digital system, including ease of payment, proper documentation, and effective dispute resolution. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to sustained monitoring and enforcement to ensure full compliance across the informal sector.
In a related development, the Katsina State Government under the leadership of Dikko Umar Radda, CON, PhD, has undertaken the renovation of the abattoir (slaughterhouse) in Kankia Local Government, alongside the upgrading of the livestock (sheep) market. This initiative is aimed at improving hygiene standards, enhancing meat processing, and modernizing the Kankia market to meet contemporary standards, thereby boosting economic activities and ensuring a safer environment for both traders and consumers.
The exercise forms part of the broader efforts of KTIRS to strengthen revenue administration and enhance internally generated revenue for sustainable development in the state.
