STOP MISLEADING THE PUBLIC.
Muhammad Abubakar Adamu (Rtd.) was not “sacked” as claimed by the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Aliyu Wadada.
Ex-IGP Adamu was appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police on 15 January 2019 and was later confirmed as the substantive Inspector-General of Police on 23 May 2019, following the approval of the Police Council.
After serving meritoriously in that capacity, his tenure ended on 6 April 2021, when the then President, late Muhammadu Buhari, appointed Usman Alkali Baba as his successor. It is also worthy of note that Buhari had earlier extended Adamu’s tenure by three months to allow the process of selecting a new IGP to be concluded.
So, where did the claim of “sack” come from?
Before his appointment as IGP, Muhammad Abubakar Adamu had risen through the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force through years of dedicated and distinguished service. He began as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and subsequently served as a Divisional Crime Officer and Administrative Officer in Imo State. He later served as Officer-in-Charge of General Investigations at Zone 6 Police Headquarters, Calabar, and worked as a Detective and Investigator at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Lagos before proceeding to INTERPOL Headquarters in Lyon, France.
He went on to hold several senior positions within the Nigeria Police Force, including Director of Peacekeeping and Training at Force Headquarters, Abuja. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police and later Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State. He subsequently became Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, Benin City, overseeing police commands in Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States.
Prior to his appointment as Inspector-General of Police, he also served as a Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos.
With all the aforementioned positions he held, he had never for once been accused of any misconduct, mismanagement or mishandling of affairs or sacked at any level. That was why before leaving office as Inspector-General of Police, Late President Buhari conferred on him the prestigious national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR). This is the record!
The question many people would like to know is: who was Aliyu Wadada before becoming a member of the House of Reps and later the Senate? And what significant contributions did he make to nation-building before entering political space? Without politics, would Senator Wadada even come close to matching the records and national service of Ex-IGP Adamu?
Wadada is simply an empty barrel that makes the loudest noise. He claims he has never been sacked from any position throughout his career, so let him come forward and show us where he worked before venturing into politics, the positions he held, and the records of achievements he made.
Ex-IGP Adamu is in a league of his own. While he has already crossed the line, Wadada is still finding his footing.
