🇮🇳🇳🇬 India–Nigeria Partnership: Advancing Growth, Development and New Opportunities !!

On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, the Consul General of India in Lagos, Shri Kannan Chockalingam, gave interviews today, 15 August 2026, to "Inside Business Africa Magazine" and the Nigerian newspaper "Independent".

The interviews focused on India’s remarkable development and growth story, democracy, the country’s transformation across key sectors, and the expanding India–Nigeria bilateral partnership.

As India celebrates its 80th Independence Day, the Consul General reaffirmed India’s commitment to working closely with Nigeria to further deepen this longstanding and multifaceted partnership and to build new avenues of cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.

🇮🇳 India–Nigeria Partnership: Expanding Opportunities for Growth and Development !!

The Consul General of India in Lagos, Shri Kannan Chockalingam, has featured in an interview with "Vanguard", Nigeria’s leading newspaper, published on Saturday, 15 August 2026, in the "Consular Hub" section (Page 36).

In the wide-ranging interview, the Consul General highlighted India’s strong and enduring relationship with Nigeria and the considerable scope for expanding bilateral cooperation across "trade, investment, technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, agriculture, food processing, manufacturing and digital technologies".

He emphasised the significant opportunities for Nigerian and Indian businesses to deepen partnerships, particularly through MSME collaboration, technology transfer, skills development and greater access to new markets. He also highlighted the potential for enhanced cooperation in "science, technology, engineering, mathematics and digital innovation", as well as institutional partnerships between universities, research organisations and technology institutions in both countries.

The interview also underlined India’s longstanding contribution to Nigeria’s human-resource development through programmes such as "ITEC and ICCR", while highlighting the scope for further cooperation in healthcare, including affordable medicines, pharmaceutical manufacturing and capacity building.

The Consul General also spoke about strengthening "people-to-people ties", cultural exchanges and the important contribution of the Indian community in Nigeria. With many Indians living in Nigeria, the Consulate remains committed to providing efficient, accessible and responsive consular services and engaging closely with the community.

Reflecting on India’s Independence Day, Shri Kannan emphasised the shared aspirations of India and Nigeria for "inclusive, sustainable and technology-driven development", and the opportunity to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries for the mutual benefit of their peoples.

The interview is a reflection of India’s commitment to building a stronger, broader and more mutually beneficial India–Nigeria partnership.

The Consulate General of India, Lagos, celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with pride and patriotic fervour.

Consul General Shri Kannan hoisted the National Flag and read the Hon’ble President of India’s Address to the Nation in the presence of Consulate officials and over 700 members of the Indian community in Nigeria.

The celebrations featured vibrant cultural performances and patriotic songs, showcasing India’s unity in diversity and the enduring spirit of the nation.
