AN OPEN LETTER T COUNCILLOR'S IN LAGOS STATE AND ACROSS NIGREIA
Dear Honourable Councillor's
Every election is built on the trust and hope of the people, when citizens vote,
they are giving you the responsibility to represent their voices and defend their interests, and work for the development of your Ward.
As a Councillor, you are the elected representative closest to the people your office should not only be visible during election campaigns but throughout your tenure, Leadership beings with listening, communicating, and being present in the community.
At CivicWatchNigeria,we recognise that some councillors are working diligently and making meaningful contributions to their communities, However many citizens tell us they rarely see or hear from their elected representative after elections. This gap in communication weakness public trust and citizens participation.
CivicWatchNigeria encourages every councillor to : Hold regular town hall meeting with residents Visit communities regularly and listen to citizens one - on - one Provide updates on projects, budgets, and council activities Advocate for better roads, drainage, healthcare, schools, markets and security Empower young people through skills acquisition, mentorship , and employment opportunities Be accessible, accountable and transparent throughout your time in the office.
The true measure of Leadership is not how many promises are made during campaigns, but how faithfully those promises are pursued after the election.
History remember leaders who remain close to the people they serve.
To every councillor in Lagos State and across Nigeria your community placed it's trust in you , Honour that trust with integrity, visibility, service and accountability.
