"ADA OGBA"

Written by Vicky's Library

Amaka was so restless she don't really know what to do 'what do I do now' Amaka asked herself, is my turn to do "ADA OGBA" for my father but I can't is against my faith.

My tradition has it in Manguda land that when a father dies her first daughter must do "ADA OGBA" for him is a festival where by an Ada of a family invite the umuada to dance with her on her father's burial the Ada will have to buy goat and the blood of that goat will be cooked and the Ada will eat it, is an act to show that you are proud of him been your father, you are wishing yourself bad omen if you don't do it.

Unknown to Amaka Chidera her best friend was watching her since "Amaka my friend what are you thinking? is it about the ADA OGBA" 'yes Dera is it I don't know what to' they were still talking and immediately demonic laughter was echoing everywhere
Immediately Dera shouting "Amaka watch out!!!!!!"

CHAPTER 31

Prince Ikenga was deeply irate when he left the palace. He drove speedily to his village and entered the palace visibly enraged.

He shouted and screamed at everybody that gets closer to him. He met Queen Obiageli on the way and bursted out.

"Mother.. I am tired of this marriage. Everything about her is disgusting. She is too stubborn and disrespectful."

Queen Obiageli talked to him placatingingly to calm the anger that was burning in him by drawing him to a seat. She placed her hand on his shoulder and talked softly to him.

"Son, please take it easy. Our prayers should always go to the gods for his will to be done. Do you remember what transpired during our festival? She couldn't withstood the sight when those men were being killed. You know she was not just chosen to be your wife but by the gods and before that there were verifiable evidences that made it possible in addition to some inquiries made by the council of chiefs. The prophecy was that she will bring light to the kingdom."

Prince Ikenga was uncomfortable with the story. He shifted uncomfortably on the chair.

"How are you sure because the gods can not give me a woman who can not stand an ordinary blood. Our custom can't stop because of her and as our future queen, she must witness everything."

"After two years of your birth, there was a prophecy that you will marry a girl from Achara village. It was prophesied that it should be the first daughter of king IDUU. "Queen Obiageli continued.

"Onowo, your father and other elderly men went to Achara village. To their confirmation, it was the day Princess Adaeze was born and a lot of things happened."Queen Obiageli was smiling happily with a continuous nod.

"What happened mother?" Prince Ikenga asked curiously.

"Merriment and jubilation took place because of her birth. According to the story, a native man was present during her birth and immeditately she came,a great night shone everywhere to identify who she was. Your father said they were wholly hospitalized. They concluded that their coming was because of a revelation from the gods. She will be married to the Prince Iduma being you." Queen Obiageli explained with apparent joy all over her face.

"After the four market days, we betrothed her. She is a light and the god's given gift to our people. You know there are many things we lack here to make life here better.."

"So was it found in that arrogant lady? I doubt it." Prince Ikenga interrupted.

"Princess Adaeze is not proud rather she is fragile and soft minded that's why she couldn't withstand the killings that day...."

"And how are we sure she will stand it in future because I am thinking of changing my mind?"

"May the gods forbids!" Queen Obiageli snapped.

"Don't even think about it because the gods might disapprove of it and strike you with sickness."

Prince Ikenga left the queen after heart to heart discussion. He started thinking of how to handle Princess Ulunma because he has seen the reason and implications of not marrying the chosen Princess.

*******

It was drizzling in that cool afternoon and Princess Adaeze wanted to leave under the weather but Udoka warned her against it because of her health. She wanted to go and see Chosen. They were ready when the rain started drizzling but she unmindfully told Udoka to get her umbrella but Udoka fought against her going out under the cool weather not because the weather was too bad or the rain might have bad effect on her but because she observed Princess Adaeze has started getting much closer to Chosen. She tried every tricks she knew to discourage Princess Adaeze but she failed.

Uju pleaded with Princess Adaeze to allow her to follow them but she refused because her spirit has started rejecting Uju. Lately, she has spotted she and Princess Ulunma whispering.

Recently, Princess Adaeze has little or no trust in her sister because of her naughty characters.

She don't want any other person to know how close she has been to the family or Chosen and how interested she was in the bible teachings.

Sometimes, she found herself praying differently and was using Jesus's name as Chosen taught her and how Faith used to pray.

She trusted Chosen due to his transparency and godliness.

She felt like spending all her time hearing him talking about the supreme God and Jesus and other wonderful stories Chosen read out to her.

She took the little bible home and hid it under her pillow and read it with her door locked.

Udoka grudgingly brought the large umbrella and they started moving down to the village.

Uju followed them from a distance but was oblivious of the fact that Princess Adaeze knew she was following them.

Princess Adaeze whispered to Udoka that they should divert to a busy path different from the normal road and watched Udoka get to the road then she will confront her.

They diverted and hid somewhere and Udoka reached to the busy path but didn't see them again. She stood still with confused countenance.

"And what's are you doing here?"
Princess Adaeze asked with a harsh voice.

Uju turned abruptly with all her eye balls outside the eye sockets.

"My prin..pri..nces.." She stammered.

"Don't Princess me. Ohhh.. you are actually spying on me?"

Shaking with fear, Uju replied.

"No..my princess.. I was actually bored staying in the house.. and.. and.. and.."

Princess Adaeze stood still and watched her as she stammered.

"Uju.. I know your likes.. Now get back and tell the person that sent you that I will not hesitate to send you packing from the palace without payment for spying on me. Nobody..I mean nobody will stop me because your service is no longer needed in the palace. Once a spy entered in a organization, city, village,or even a family. The lives of people are obviously in danger.. so get out."

Uju fell on the ground and grasped Princess Adaeze's two legs.

"Please. My kind Princess. It's devil.. and prin... Princess Ulunma who sent me.."

Princess Adaeze started laughing funningly.

"The devil and Princess Ulunma? Are you in your right sense?"

"My princess.. please.. pardon me. I am sorry.."She held her legs strongly.

Princess Adaeze sighed softly.

"I am only pardoning you because of your aged mother. Now stand up and run back to the palace.. now!!" Princess Adaeze ordered in a harsh tone.

Uju rose quickly, dusted her knees and started walking away.

"Run.. I said run!!" Princess Adaeze yelled at her and Uju took to her heels. Udoka bursted out laughing, Princess Adaeze watched her in amazement and Udoka held her mouth to stop the laughing coming out of her mouth again.

"So I am now a comedian right?" Princess Adaeze asked with feigned annoyance.

"No..no..my princess.. I was actually mused by her character. It was funny."

"Funny indeed.. please let's go." Princess Adaeze said and moved to the major road that led to Chosen's house.

CHAPTER 30

Princess Adaeze reached the palace when it's already dark.

Prince Ikenga was still waiting in annoyance. When he spotted Princess Adaeze and Udoka,he approached her with anger written all over his face. Princess Adaeze ignored him and walked away without looking twice. Prince Ikenga yelled her name but she walked away without throwing a second look behind her.

Prince Ikenga matched to the reception with fury.

"She is too stubborn and arrogant. I am trying to manage her but this her display of disrespect is what I will not condone.."

Prince Ikenga blurted out in anger and king IDuu understood what he said and murmured to himself.

"What's wrong with my daughters?"

He got up and called one of the guards to go and call Princess Adaeze which he ran to call her.

Princess Adaeze came out and Princess Ulunma followed her too to know what will happen.

Literally, Princess Adaeze greeted the king traditionally and sat down. She looked away to avoid looking at Prince Ikenga.

"Princess,. your husband has been waiting for you. Where have you been?" King IDuu asked calmly.

Princess Ulunma rolled her eyes and focused her eyes on Prince Ikenga who didn't give her attention even for once.

"Father.. I told you I want to walk around the community and visit some friends and villagers."

"Why did you disrespect him?He is your husband." The king added.

Princess Adaeze who was burning inside tried to calm down by complying.

"Father.. I am sorry." Princess Adaeze replied looking at the king.

"Then apologize to him for disrespecting him." King IDuu told Princess Adaeze.

"Father!!" Princess Adaeze called.

"Yes, in the next few months, you are going to be husband and wife. Is it how you will be disrespecting him?" King IDuu asked.

Princess Adaeze bent down and thought of what to do. She has no option than to obey to avoid the king's wrath.

Grudgingly, she turned to Prince Ikenga who has been quiet all the while.

"I'm sorry." She said calmly.

Prince Ikenga removed his eyes expecting more action and pleading but what he did displeased the king and Princess Adaeze.

The level of anger burning inside of Princess Ulunma was indescribable. She was busy monitoring and watching prince Ikenga's movements. She won't hesitate to burst out if she didn't move out of the reception.

Luckily, Princess Adaeze excused herself and left before the king would ask for a repetition of the apology but the king didn't do anything when she was moving out and it made her to increase her steps because she couldn't control how irritated she was for sitting in the same place with the injurious fellow.

King IDuu started counseling Prince Ikenga for what he knew best.

Princess Ulunma also left to her chamber with great fury. She wasn't expecting prince Ikenga to show concern on Princess Adaeze's misconduct towards him. He expected he merely went home after unkempt trials of Princess Adaeze's number but he kept waiting for her.

Who knows if he loves her but pretended he didn't. If they finally got married it means she lose and she won't allow such to happen or she will commit su***de. Prince Ikenga was hers and not anybody's.

She started looking for some loopholes to nail Princess Adaeze so as to disqualify her for being a wife to Prince Ikenga.

Princess Ulunma starting working on her head.

"Where and where does she normally go in the village? I need to make some investigation to dismantle her. Obviously, she detest the prince but they are forcing her to marry him because of so called tradition and..and.. today I saw her playing cool. Does it mean she has started accepting him? No
Never..not when I have given him access to my body. I belong to that kingdom. I love their power and culture." She said to herself.

Princess Ulunma dashed out of the chamber and walked to the maidens quarters. She wanted to do thorough investigation on Princess Adaeze.

She met one of the maidens and asked her few questions but the responses were negative. She don't really have quick access to Udoka because she was always with Princess Adaeze and Udoka has warmed them to keep their movements anonymous to everyone in the palace.

She moved to Uju and Uju couldn't help her but she promised to update her frequently with fresh updates.
She opened up to her she hasn't been following her out since Faith was brought into the palace.

She promised to beg Princess Adaeze to allow her to follow them to the village next time.

"Please get every relevant information for me. You know my sister is a special person and I don't want her to make mistakes. Do it for and you will be my best friend."

Uju was happy and she couldn't wait to be a special friend to Princess Ulunma therefore she condone to do her demand.

Princess Ulunma walked back thrilled expecting good news from Uju whom she knew as a chatterbox.

********

Princess Adaeze kept smiling to herself when she remembered the portrait Chosen made for her.
She couldn't believe herself. It took her time to control the grateful tears that was gushing out of her eyes. Chosen was an angel in disguise. How could such angel be in such defomity? She remembered plastic surgery and thought if there's anyway she could fly him abroad for such so that he could be accepted as a human being. He was highly talented and godly. He is so intelligent, humble and his speech made him to stand out. In a nutshell, he was made in a special way and she should do anything to make him feel wanted in the planet. His art was superb and couldn't even measured with others she has come across.

When they were in the teaching, She asked him if he could display his works on the Facebook but Chosen digressed but she won't relent because she won't keep quiet until she see how to help him out.

She smiled again on recalling the event that took place in Chosen's house.

Flash back

When Chosen stood up to go out because they were sitting down together studying the bible in the back of the compound.

She heard a noise at her back which made her to stood up. On turning her back, she saw one of the portraits that was covered on the ground.

She walked to the spot to carry it up but was taken aback when she saw her image as the portrait.

At first, she wasn't sure but nobody sees his or her image without recognising it. It triggered her to bend down slowly and carried it up carefully.

Chosen who heard the sound came out but stood helpless behind her on seeing she has seen her portrait.

Princess Adaeze carefully stared at her image with mouth open for minutes being short of words. She saw an inscription in it which was written" Ihie"( The light)

She turned back when she heard footsteps coming close to her and turned to see Chosen by her side.

"I made it to remember the humble Princess. It was specially made for appreciating your humble visits to Mr nobody like us." Chosen said without looking at her.

Princess Adaeze couldn't control her tears because of the emotion.

The portrait was too beautiful.

"Why did you cover it? You should have shown me?"

"Yes I am planning to do that but waiting for an opportunity. If you look around you will see some portraits I covered. It's for a protection. I don't want them to be exposed now. I don't know why but I believe it's God's leading.

"And the name "Ihie"(The light) What does it implies?" Princess Adaeze asked enthusiastically.

"After working on it I heard a voice that told me to name it Ihie. I quickly did that. You know one thing I like about our God. He speaks to his children what he knows best. He does something without giving his children a hint of his doings either in vision, trance, dream, small still voice, prophecy or through his word. I have learned to listen to him."

Princess Adaeze smiled delightedly.

"I am beginning to fail in love with your God. But Chosen. I like that name. Will you call me that name as you have written because I know you are referring to me."

Princess Adaeze requested.

"Princess Adaeze.. That's exactly the name that always comes to my mind whenever I see you. And I will be glad to call you Ihie."

Princess Adaeze looked at Chosen with passion and turned to look at the portrait. She ran her hand on it and smiled satisfactorily.

"Can I take it home?" She requested.

"Yes.. my princess ..with all pleasure."

"No Ihiee.. I prefer that."

"I can't disrespect my princess.." Chosen said.

"Now we are friends. I prefer that name and only you should call me that. Accepted?"

"Yes.. prince... Ihie.." Chosen corrected himself.

"Thank you."

Princess Adaeze looked at the portrait again and knew it would be a burden to Udoka so she planned to call their driver tomorrow. But the driver won't follow them to Chosen's house rather they should bring the portrait outside for them outside to take it home.

Back to present

She smiled and her mind pictured the portrait and the name Chosen inscribed to the portrait and tears of joy swelled up in her eyes.

WE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
