Trauma
Episode 1: The Night That Changed Everything
“Please… don’t touch me!” her voice trembled in the dark, but her words dissolved into the silence of the small room.
Chiamaka was just 14, a quiet girl who had already learned how cruel the world could be. Born out of wedlock, she carried the burden of rejection even in her own home. Her mother barely looked at her with warmth; every mistake was met with harsh words. “You’re just a reminder of my shame,” her mother often hissed under her breath.
When Uncle Kelechi arrived to spend the holidays with them, Chiamaka thought maybe things would be different. He seemed kind at first, always smiling, always buying her biscuits when he returned from town. For a moment, she believed she had found someone who noticed her.
But kindness turned into something else. Something darker.
That night, as the rain beat heavily against the roof, she felt a hand cover her mouth. She tried to scream, tried to run, but the weight was too much. Tears streamed down her face as fear swallowed her whole.
When it was over, she curled into a corner, shivering, whispering to herself, “Why me? Why does nobody love me?”
The next morning, with courage trembling inside her, she tried to tell her mother. She expected anger, protection, or even just a hug. Instead, her mother snapped:
“Stop lying! You just want to ruin my family’s name. Do you know the shame you’d bring if people hear this nonsense? Go and keep quiet!”
Chiamaka’s heart shattered. The one person she thought might believe her had turned her back. From that moment, she knew: she was on her own.
And so, the nightmare continued.
