*PROMOTING CONDUCIVE LIVING ENVIRONMENT FOR ENHANCED TRAINING: NAFRC REWARDS EXCELLENCE IN SECOND QUARTER INTER-BLOCK COMPETITION*

The Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos, on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, rewarded outstanding residential blocks in the Centre’s Second Quarter Inter-Block Competition.

The awards were presented by the Commandant, NAFRC, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, at the Centre’s Parade Ground, as part of efforts to promote environmental sanitation, proper maintenance of accommodation facilities, discipline and collective responsibility among personnel for enhanced training in the Centre.

The initiative has continued to encourage healthy competition among residential blocks, with participants striving to meet established standards in cleanliness, environmental management and general upkeep of their accommodation as well as the Centre at large.

Giving the highlight of the competition, the Director of Administration, Air Commodore SU Bello, explained that the inspection committee conducted the assessment on 31 July 2026, following a pre-inspection briefing held on 29 July 2026.

He noted that the assessment covered the overall cleanliness, maintenance and structural condition of residential accommodation, as well as environmental management and innovative value-added projects. According to him, the results were based on an objective assessment and collation of observations by members of the inspection committee.

Air Commodore Bello commended the participating blocks for their efforts, noting that the competition had demonstrated that “excellence is achievable through discipline, teamwork and consistency.”

Over 40 blocks participated in the exercise. At the end of the competition, Corporal and Below Quarters(CBQ) Block S emerged overall winner and received a cash prize of ₦1 million naira. CBQ Block T came second and was awarded ₦600,000, while Brigadier General AO James Block came third and received ₦400,000.

In his remarks, AVM Ilo congratulated the winning blocks for their outstanding performance and urged them to sustain the standards that earned them recognition. He also encouraged other blocks to intensify their efforts and use the competition as an opportunity to improve before the next assessment.

The Commandant described the cash prizes as a well-deserved recognition of the winners’ commitment and performance, while urging them to remain exemplary models for other blocks to emulate.

The presentation generated excitement among personnel as representatives of the winning blocks received their awards.

The ceremony reiterates the Commandant's Command Philosophy to emplace formidable training environment, enhanced personnel welfare and sustained infrastructure development in line with global best practices. It also underscores his vision to reward hard for diligence to outstanding personnel.

NAFRC SITE INSPECTION - AVM ILO UNVEILS PLANS FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AT EPE LANDED PROPERTY

The Commandant, Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, has unveiled plans to develop the Centre’s Landed property at Epe, Lagos State, into a productive agricultural hub.

AVM Ilo disclosed this on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, during an inspection tour of the property as part of his ongoing familiarisation visits to NAFRC facilities and assets.

The Commandant, who was accompanied by members of his Principal Staff Officers, explained that the acquisition of the land was intended, among other purposes to facilitate the gradual relocation of some departments and activities of the Centre from its Oshodi headquarters to Epe.

He, further, emphasised the need to commence productive utilisation of the vast expanse of land through agricultural development, noting that the initiative would complement the Federal Government’s Renew Hope initiative to promote food production and reduce dependence on food imports.

As part of the proposed development, AVM Ilo directed that an economic farm be established on the property, with the cultivation of crops such as cassava and the planting of economic trees amongst others. He stressed that the available land must be properly planned and demarcated to maximise its agricultural and developmental potential.

To commence the proposed agricultural activities, the Commandant directed that arrangements be made for the provision of a borehole to ensure a reliable source of water for farming and other future developments.

AVM Ilo also directed that a comprehensive survey of the property be conducted ahead of his next inspection to establish its boundaries and provide an accurate framework for proper planning and utilisation.

He further ordered the er****on of a prominent signpost and observation building at the entrance of the property, as well as around the premises to clearly identify the property in order to prevent unauthorised access.

The planned agricultural development is expected to form part of the Centre’s broader efforts to transform its available assets into productive ventures capable of supporting institutional growth, food production and the welfare of its personnel in line with his Command Philosophy.

The inspection marked an important step towards unlocking the economic and agricultural potential of the NAFRC Epe landed property, in line with AVM Ilo’s vision of promoting productive asset utilisation and sustainable development at the Centre.

NAFRC STRENGTHENS POST-SERVICE PREPARATION WITH INAUGURATION OF PRE-DISCHARGE COURSE 2/2026

The Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos, on Friday, 31 July 2026, inaugurated Pre-Discharge Course 2/2026, reaffirming its commitment to equipping retiring military personnel with the skills required for a successful transition to civilian life.

The Special Guest of Honour, the GOC 81 Division NA, Major General AA Babalola described retirement as the beginning of a new phase of opportunities, urging participants to embrace the training as a pathway to entrepreneurship, self-reliance and continued national service. He commended NAFRC for its sustained efforts in empowering retiring personnel through vocational, entrepreneurial and life skills training. For providing the necessary guidance and resources, the SGOH appreciated the President Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs for all the support.

The Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, disclosed that the Centre is strengthening its curriculum in collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to provide participants with industry-relevant skills and nationally recognised certifications. He urged participants to remain committed to the programme and maximise the opportunities available.

Earlier, the Director of Training, Brigadier General IE Akpaumontia, said 840 personnel were nominated across the Services for the course, with 689 already received and documented. He noted that participants would undergo practical and theoretical training in vocational, technical and entrepreneurial disciplines, alongside entrepreneurship development, counselling and industrial attachment, to prepare them for productive post-service career.

ENSURING A SERENE ENVIRONMENT FOR CONDUCIVE LIVING - COMMANDANT NAFRC INSPECTS ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE

The Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius ILo on Friday, 24 July 2026, physically carried out inspection of general sanitation exercise aimed at improving the cleanliness and aesthetics of the Centre.

The exercise, which involved the entire NAFRC Community was part of the Command’s commitment to maintaining a clean, healthy and conducive environment for training and administrative activities in line with his Command Philosophy for the Centre.

During the sanitation exercise, Air Vice Marshal Ilo, accompanied by the Director of Logistics, Director of Coordination and other senior officers, conducted an inspection tour of various locations within the Centre to assess the level of compliance and encourage personnel in the cleanup effort.

The Commandant commended the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by personnel not withstanding the adverse weather condition stressing that environmental cleanliness remains a collective responsibility and an essential aspect of healthy living, discipline and effective service delivery.

He urged personnel to sustain the culture of cleanliness and continue to take ownership of their immediate environment, noting that a clean and orderly environment contributes significantly to the overall health, image and operational efficiency of the Centre.

NAFRC, SPECTRA INDUSTRIES LTD REITERATE STRONGER PARTNERSHIP IN TRAINING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) and Spectra Industries Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to building a stronger partnership aimed at enhancing training, research and human capacity development.

This was the focus of a courtesy visit by a delegation from Spectra Industries Limited to the Commandant of NAFRC, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, at the Centre's headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos, on Thursday, 23 July 2026.

Leading the delegation, the Chief Operations Officer of Spectra Industries Limited, Mr. Odebiyi Oluwaseyi, said the visit was to strengthen the existing relationship between both organisations and explore opportunities for greater collaboration. He noted that strategic partnerships remain essential to advancing professional excellence, promoting research and developing the skills required to support national development.
The Chief Operations Officer stated that Spectra Industries Limited is committed to supporting education, research and human capacity development through collaborative initiatives. He added that working closely with NAFRC would create opportunities for knowledge exchange, joint training programmes and technical cooperation for the mutual benefit of both organisations.

Responding, the Commandant, AVM Ilo, welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit. He commended Spectra Industries Limited for its contributions to research, training and national development, while reaffirming NAFRC's commitment to partnering with reputable organisations to enhance its training programmes and expand opportunities for personnel undergoing resettlement and professional development at the Centre.

AVM Ilo noted that stronger collaboration between NAFRC and Spectra Industries Limited would promote innovation, encourage knowledge sharing and strengthen capacity development, all of which are essential to achieving shared institutional goals and sustainable national development.

AVM ILO ENGAGES SOLDIERS, CIVILIAN STAFF, ANNOUNCES REFORMS AT NAFRC

The Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ilo, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the welfare, discipline and professional development of both military and civilian personnel. He stated this during separate interactive meetings held with soldiers and civilian staff of the Centre.

The interactive engagement which was held on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, enabled the Commandant to brief personnel on ongoing and planned initiatives aimed at improving welfare, strengthening infrastructure and advancing the Centre's transformation agenda, while also receiving firsthand feedback on issues affecting both military and civilian staff.

Addressing both groups, the Commandant stressed the importance of discipline, professionalism and commitment to duty, urging personnel to uphold the core values of the Armed Forces in the discharge of assigned duty. He also sensitised personnel on the need to emplace healthy lifestyle that will promote good living emphasising continuous awareness, prevention and early dictation and treatment of any illness.
He also cautioned personnel to comply with the Armed Forces' social media policy to avoid falling fowl of the regulations.
In the area of the forthcoming elections, the Commandant encouraged civilian staff to exercise their constitutional right by keying into the process while urging military personnel to remain loyal to constituted authorities, patriotic to the nation and apolitical in line with military ethics.

The Commandant announced plans to repair the Centre's 300 KVA generator and install solar-powered street lights to improve electricity supply and security as well as providing portable water with additional solar bole holes in the Centre. He further disclosed that the Centre's training curriculum is being reviewed in line with current reality in entrepreneurship drive. He briefed personnel on the plans were underway to emplace cooperatives to enable personnel benefit from Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security renew hope intervention programmes.

Speaking specifically to the soldiers, AVM Ilo emphasized the need to ensure a clean and serene environment especially within the Centre. Accordingly he announced the continuation of the barracks block competition, revealing that Block Officers-in-Charge (OICs) had been appointed to coordinate activities and address issues within their respective blocks. He also approved an increase in the prizes, with the cleanest blocks to be given handsomely rewarded.

For civilian staff, the Commandant announced salary increment for employees who have served the Centre for more than 5 years. He also directed that essential medications be made available free of charge at the Centre's medical facility for civilian staff that are not covered by NHIF as effort is ongoing to integrate them in the scheme.

Other areas of the meeting were issues relating to civilian allowances, pension, salary structure, career progression, manpower development and improved work conditions.

Speaking on the Centre's long-term development plans, the Commandant disclosed that NAFRC's Agriculture wing would be relocated to Epe in a bid to expand the scope of Agricultural enterprise.

AVM Ilo appreciated the C-n-C, the Minister of Defence , the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs for supporting the Centre with necessary resources.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the elated personnel to work assiduously in entrenching loyalty, promoting discipline, professionalism and the continued advancement of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre in line with its mission.

NAFRC, MUSHIN COUNCIL DEEPEN PARTNERSHIP FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ilo, has reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the Mushin Local Government Council during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Council, Honourable Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe.

Speaking during the visit, Air Vice Marshal Ilo gave a brief overview of the Establishment and mandate of the Centre, while expressing appreciation for the cordial relationship that has existed between NAFRC and the Mushin Local Government over the years. He assured the Chairman of the Centre's continued support in areas of mutual interest and called on the Council to encourage more youths to take advantage of the Centre's vocational training programmes.

The Commandant further disclosed that NAFRC is currently reviewing its curriculum in order to upgrade its technological training facilities so as to equip trainees with relevant skills for self-reliance and national development in line with global best practice. He further reaffirms the Centre's commitment to youth empowerment and community service. The Commandant thanked the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff as well as the Service Chiefs for their continued support to the Centre.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government Area, Honourable Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe, commended the long standing and enduring partnership between the Council and NAFRC. He acknowledged the Centre's numerous contributions to the development of the local government, particularly in the areas of medical outreach services, security support, training of drivers, and the donation of healthcare facilities to the the Council.

Hon. Aruwe expressed appreciation for NAFRC's unwavering support over the years and wished Air Vice Marshal Ilo a successful and impactful tenure as the 42nd Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre. He expressed confidence that the cordial relationship between both institutions would continue to grow, yielding greater benefits for the people of Mushin and the wider community.

NAFRC COMMANDANT SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE TO ENHANCE RETIREES' EMPOWERMENT

The Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, has called for a strengthened institutional partnership between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Centre to boost agricultural entrepreneurship, food security and sustainable livelihoods for retiring military personnel.

The Commandant made the call during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, at the Ministry's headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, AVM Ilo commended the Minister for granting the audience and reaffirmed NAFRC's commitment to equipping retiring personnel of the Armed Forces and other security agencies with practical skills that would enable them to become self-reliant after service.

The Commandant explained that agriculture remains one of the Centre's key areas of focus, revealing that about 80 per cent of participants undergoing resettlement training had indicated interest in agricultural entrepreneurship. He disclosed that the Centre had acquired 40 hectares of land to expand its agricultural training programme and sought the Ministry's support in the areas of technical training, modern equipment, extension services and policy guidance to ensure the success of the initiative.

According to him, the proposed collaboration would significantly enhance human capacity development, promote food security and provide retiring personnel with sustainable means of livelihood, thereby contributing to national economic growth.

Responding, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Armed Forces in safeguarding Nigeria's territorial integrity and maintaining national security.

The Minister highlighted the Federal Government's ongoing agricultural initiatives aimed at improving food production and enhancing the welfare of Nigerians. He expressed the Ministry's readiness to work closely with NAFRC and stressed the need to develop practical modalities that would facilitate the implementation of mutually beneficial programmes for retiring military personnel.

Senator Kyari also encouraged the Centre to organise beneficiaries into cooperative societies to enable them to access government intervention programmes and agricultural support schemes. He further advised NAFRC to outline and forward it's area of interest of the initiative to enable the Ministry provide appropriate technical assistance and other forms of institutional support in line with existing agricultural policies.

COMMANDANT NAFRC PAYS TRIBUTE TO RETIRING AWO, 6 SNCOs FOR DILIGENCE SERVICE

The Commandant, Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, has paid tribute to a retiring Air Warrant Officer (AWO), five Master Warrant Officers (MWOs), and one Staff Sergeant (SSGT) for their diligence and hard work to the service to the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Center in particular and the and the nation at large.

The recognition of their diligence service was held on Monday, 22 June 2026, at the NAFRC Headquarters Conference Room, brought together the Deputy Commandant, Major General Oyelade, Directors, and other senior officers of the Centre as well as the Civilian President of Senior NCOs to celebrate the retiring Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) whose military career spanned over decades of dedicated and selfless service.

Speaking at the event, AVM Ilo lauded the retirees for their courage, loyalty and outstanding contributions in various appointments and operational assignments, noting that their commitment to service had significantly enhanced the effectiveness and reputation of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He described the retirees as exemplary servicemen whose dedication and professionalism had left a lasting impact on the military institution and the nation.

“The fact that you are retiring does not take you away from us,” the Commandant stated, assuring the retirees that they would continue to remain valued members of the Armed Forces family even after leaving active service.

In his remarks, the Deputy Commandant, Major General Oyelade, commended the retirees for their unwavering commitment to duty, discipline, and professionalism throughout their years in service. He noted that their exemplary leadership and dedication had contributed immensely to the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces while serving as role models to younger personnel. He further advised them to remain prudent in their post-service endeavours and avoid dubious investment schemes.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of diligence service award to the retirees in appreciation of their exemplary service records and remarkable achievements during their military career. Colleagues, friends, and well-wishers also paid glowing tributes to the honourees, recalling their accomplishments and the positive impact they made through mentorship, leadership, and dedication to duty.

Responding on behalf of the retirees, Air Warrant Officer Abubakar Mohamed expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Armed Forces for the opportunity to serve the nation with honour and distinction. He also appreciated the support of family members, colleagues, and superiors throughout his military career. He urged serving personnel to remain disciplined, uphold the core values of the Armed Forces, and maintain the highest level of respect for constituted authority.

The ceremony concluded with goodwill messages and presentations, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and appreciation for the retirees' enduring contributions to the military profession.

SADIQUE BABA ABUBAKAR GOLF CLUB SHASHA SEEKS CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP WITH NAFRC

The Executive Committee of the Sadique Baba Abubakar Golf Club (SBAGC), Shasha, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, to strengthen the existing ties between NAFRC and SBAGC as well as seek support for the club's ongoing projects and future activities.

Speaking during the visit, the Golf Captain of the club, Air Commodore FT Agbebi, congratulated Air Vice Marshal Ilo on his appointment as Commandant of NAFRC. He commended the Commandant for his longstanding contributions to the growth and development of the Club, noting that his commitment and active participation has played a significant role in shaping the club's progress over the years.

Air Commodore Agbebi also appealed for the Commandant's continued support towards ongoing development projects and sponsorship of future programmes and activities of the club.

Responding, Air Vice Marshal Ilo warmly welcomed the delegation and highlighted the mandate of NAFRC as a premier military resettlement institution dedicated to preparing retiring personnel for productive civilian life. He emphasized the importance of golf as a sport that promotes relaxation, discipline, networking, and healthy social interaction.

The Commandant acknowledged the military's contribution to the development of golf in Nigeria, noting that several government-owned golf courses and clubs across the country were established through military initiatives.
