DSCTDA Intensifies Sanitation Drive Across Asaba Ahead of High-Profile Delta State Economic Summit

By Chibuzor Kingsley

The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has stepped up environmental sanitation operations along the Asabaโ€“Ibusa Expressway in preparation for the Delta State Economic Summit, scheduled to hold from Sunday, August 2 to Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The ongoing exercise, which commenced on Thursday, is designed to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for delegates, investors, and other visitors expected at the summit. Activities include the desilting of sand from the tarred road surface, removal of illegal refuse dumps, sweeping, litter collection, and the evacuation of all waste and debris to government-approved disposal sites.

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and public engagement, the Agency also carried out a sensitisation programme at the Koka Interchange. During the exercise, residents, traders, and road users were educated on the importance of proper waste management practices and the need to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Speaking during the monitoring exercise, the Director General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, reaffirmed the Agencyโ€™s commitment to ensuring that Asaba remains clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing, particularly as the state prepares to host the forthcoming economic summit.

Mr. Ukah personally supervised the ongoing sanitation activities alongside the Agencyโ€™s Manager of Administration, Mr. Vincent Okwofadgeke, while the Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, provided continuous oversight of field operations to ensure strict adherence to environmental standards.

The sensitisation programme was facilitated by the Agencyโ€™s Manager of Corporate Affairs, Ms. Ngozi Peters, who engaged residents and business operators on the importance of supporting government initiatives by maintaining clean surroundings and avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal.

The Agency reiterated that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility and urged residents to sustain proper sanitation practices beyond the summit period in order to preserve the aesthetic appeal and environmental integrity of the state capital.

DSCTDA, Okpanam Youth Organisation Enforce Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise

By Chibuzor Kingsley

The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), in collaboration with the Okpanam Youth Organisation (OYO), on Saturday monitored, supervised and enforced the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area.

The team from the Agency was led by the Head of Environment, Mr Isaac Nwosu, while the Okpanam Youth Organisation team was led by its President, Comdr. Fidelis Okonma. The exercise was aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly community.

Officials of the Agency and members of the youth organisation moved round major streets and neighbourhoods to ensure compliance with the sanitation exercise. Residents and business operators were called upon to clean their surroundings, clear blocked drains and properly dispose of refuse, while those who failed to participate were reminded of their civic responsibility to maintain a clean environment.

To strengthen the sanitation exercise, the Agency provided essential tools, including wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes and hand gloves, to support residents and volunteers during the cleanup.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr Isaac Nwosu emphasised the importance of environmental sanitation in safeguarding public health and preventing environmental hazards. He urged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit rather than limiting it to the monthly sanitation exercise.

He commended Comdr. Fidelis Okonma and members of the Okpanam Youth Organisation for their support and commitment to mobilising residents for the exercise, noting that collaboration with community stakeholders remains vital to achieving a cleaner capital territory.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining environmental sanitation across the Delta State Capital Territory through continuous public enlightenment, strategic partnerships and effective enforcement of environmental sanitation regulations.

DSCTDA Pledges Support for Dennis Osadebay University as VC Seeks Infrastructure Partnership

By Chibuzor Kingsley

The Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Mr. Patrick Ukah, has assured Dennis Osadebay University (DOU) of the Agency's commitment to supporting the institution's infrastructural development in line with its intervention mandate.

Ukah gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving the Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University, Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino, and members of the university's management team during a courtesy visit to the Agency's headquarters in Asaba.

Welcoming the delegation, the Director General described the visit as timely and significant, noting that collaboration between government agencies and educational institutions is essential for sustainable development and the advancement of the state.

He explained that DSCTDA is primarily an intervention agency established to facilitate development within the Delta State Capital Territory and stressed the importance of building strategic partnerships with institutions such as Dennis Osadebay University.

Ukah commended the Vice Chancellor for initiating the visit and congratulated the university on its steady growth and successful take-off. He expressed confidence in the institution's future under Professor Aghalino's leadership and assured the university that the Agency would make its own contribution towards supporting its development within the scope of its mandate.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aghalino, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship between the university and the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency while seeking collaboration in addressing the institution's critical infrastructure needs.

He identified the university's priority needs to include access roads, classroom blocks, office accommodation for lecturers, workshops, laboratories, and other teaching facilities and instructional aids. According to him, providing world-class infrastructure would not only improve teaching and learning but also showcase the Delta State Government's commitment to quality education and human capital development.

Responding, Ukah acknowledged the requests and reiterated that although DSCTDA operates mainly as an intervention agency, it would make its own contribution towards supporting the university's development.

The Director General also prayed for a successful tenure for the Vice Chancellor and expressed optimism that his administration would position Dennis Osadebay University among the leading higher institutions in the country.

The courtesy visit ended with both the Agency and the university reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the pursuit of infrastructural development, educational excellence, and the overall growth of the Delta State Capital Territory.
