Happy Dragon Boat Festival to our friends in Nigeria!
Today is the Dragon Boat Festival, one of the most culturally significant and vibrant holidays celebrated in Taiwan!
Have you ever wondered why we race dragon boats and eat sticky rice dumplings?
Falling on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, the festival originally began as a traditional practice to ward off summer diseases and pray for good health. Today, it also commemorates the legacy of Qu Yuan, a revered poet and minister from the ancient State of Chu. He is remembered for his uncompromising integrity and deep devotion to his homeland.
Here is how we celebrate this special day:
✨ Zongzi (粽子): We enjoy delicious, pyramid-shaped sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and filled with savory or sweet fillings.
✨ Dragon Boat Racing (划龍舟): Teams row beautifully crafted dragon-shaped boats to the rhythmic beat of heavy drums, symbolizing unity, vitality, and driving away bad luck!
Whether you are enjoying a tasty Zongzi or simply spending quality time with loved ones, the Taipei Trade Office wishes you a healthy, safe, and happy Dragon Boat Festival! 🐉
