The lunch hour flew by in a flurry of laughter and banter, but as Harper headed to her next class, her thoughts kept drifting back to Jake. "...hangin’ out, I guess. Why do you ask?" Harper replied, trying to sound casual. Jake hesitated, then said, "I was thinking maybe we could grab a coffee or something. I mean, if you're not busy." Harper's pulse quickened. Was he actually asking her out? She took a deep breath, fighting the urge to squeal like a fangirl. "Sure, I'd like that," she said, trying to play it cool. Jake grinned, looking relieved. "Cool, cool..After school, Harper met Jake at the local coffee shop, her hands sweaty and her stomach full of butterflies. They chatted over lattes, and Harper found herself surprised at how easy the conversation flowed. Jake was funny, thoughtful, and seemed genuinely interested in her. As they walked out of the shop together, a warm breeze rustled the trees overhead. And as they reached the corner, Jake reached out and took her hand. Harper felt a tingle run up her arm, and a goofy smile spread across her face. This was definitely turning into something more than just a casual hangout.
