66TH INDEPENDENCE: NSCDC CG
ASSURES CITIZENS OF SAFETY, SECURITY, AND PROTECTION OF CRITICAL ASSETS NATIONWIDE

As Nigeria prepares to celebrate its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has given a firm assurance of the Corps' unwavering commitment to safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) and ensuring the safety of citizens nationwide.

Reaffirming the Corps' dedication to its statutory responsibilities, Prof. Audi announced the strategic deployment of adequate personnel and operational resources across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Special security focus is being placed on strategic installations, public facilities, and other vulnerable locations to prevent acts of vandalism, sabotage, and criminality throughout the anniversary celebrations.

"The NSCDC remains fully prepared to discharge its statutory responsibilities and contribute effectively to the maintenance of peace and national security. NSCDC STRENGTHENS OPERATIONAL READINESS THROUGH BASIC WEAPON HANDLING COURSE

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has reiterated the Corps’ commitment to building a highly trained, disciplined and professional workforce capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges.

The Basic Weapon Handling Training and Regimentation Course 12 is part of the Corps’ continued investment in personnel development, reinforcing discipline, competence, responsible weapon handling and operational readiness.

The initiative aligns with the CG’s vision of building an elite, well-trained and professionally oriented Corps equipped to effectively discharge its statutory responsibilities.

NSCDC ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTED PIPELINE VANDALS IN ABUJA

The FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspected vandals of an NNPC pipeline at Dafa, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

The operation reflects the sustained drive of the Commandant General, CG Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, to strengthen the protection of critical national assets in line with the Corps’ mandate.

The NSCDC remains resolute that the destructive actions of a few must not be allowed to compromise the common good, national development and the security of critical infrastructure.

The Corps will continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to protect national assets and bring economic saboteurs to justice.

NSCDC CG PAYS CONDOLENCE VISIT TO ROYAL FATHER, BEREAVED FAMILIES; ASSURES FULL COOPERATION WITH PRESIDENTIAL INVESTIGATION COMMITTEE

The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, paid a condolence and courtesy visit to the emir of Minna,His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Umar Farouk Bahago, the parents of the deceased, and the family of the survivors.

The visit was aimed at commiserating directly with the affected families during this period of grief. During the interaction, the CG strongly condoled with the families and gave a firm assurance that the Corps will not shield anyone found culpable, emphasizing that justice and transparency will take precedence.

Addressing the broader steps being taken to uncover the truth, the CG noted that the Federal Government, under the directive of the Presidency, has constituted a high-powered investigative committee to probe the incident. He assured the public that the NSCDC is fully cooperating with the panel, noting that relevant personnel have already been placed in protective custody to make them fully available for transparent investigation process.

Highlighting the cultural and spiritual significance of the third and seventh-day prayers for the departed, the CG explained that his visit was also to join the Muslim faithful in offering prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased and strength for the bereaved families.

Responding on behalf of the traditional institution and the families, His Royal Highness expressed appreciation to the Commandant General for the swift administrative actions taken, for cooperating with the Presidential committee, and for deeming it fit to personally visit and identify with the community in their moment of grief.

NSCDC REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY AND DUE PROCESS

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to transparency, accountability and due process as an Independent Committee begins its assignment to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the reported deaths of 33 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the NSCDC Niger State Command in Minna.

The Commandant General joined the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and other senior officials of the Ministry and its agencies at the inauguration of the 10-member panel, chaired by Mr Jonathan Kure, a retired Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services.

Comprising professionals of proven integrity and diverse expertise, the panel has been mandated to independently examine the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths and make appropriate recommendations.

Inaugurating the panel, the Honourable Minister charged its members to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, impartiality and integrity, with particular emphasis on establishing the facts and providing credible answers to the bereaved families and the Nigerian public.

Responding on behalf of the members, Mr Kure expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased and assured that they would approach the assignment with diligence, objectivity and a strong sense of responsibility to the nation.

The NSCDC welcomes the independent process and will provide full access to relevant records, information and personnel necessary for the effective discharge of the mandate. The Corps remains confident that a thorough and credible examination will bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the incident and inform any necessary action.

NSCDC ARRESTS, DETAINS PERSONNEL IN CONNECTION WITH DEATH OF 33 ALLEGED ILLEGAL MINERS IN NIGER, ORDERS SERVICE FLAG TO FLY AT HALF MAST ACROSS FORMATIONS

‎As Nigeria mourn the unfortunate death of 33 suspected illegal miners in Niger State, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has given assurance that due process, transparency and accountability will be strictly followed in the investigation of 24 personnel of the Corps currently held in custody of the NSCDC, adding that every single personnel found culpable will face the full weight of internal disciplinary measures and the law.

‎As against the initial figure of 21 personnel, the Corps Public Relations Officer, ACC Babawale Afolabi, while parading the officers and men at the Corps Headquarters disclosed that three more personnel identified have also been placed on suspension thereby bringing the a total of 24 personnel.
‎
‎The Spokesman explained,
‎ "in a swift and decisive joint operation conducted in conjunction with the Commandant General's Special Investigation Squad (SIS) all officers and men of the Niger State Command linked to the gross misconduct have since on the 17th September 2026 been taken into protective custody at the National Headquarters, Abuja, where they are undergoing rigorous interrogation and administrative disciplinary action, so as to make them available for the Presidential Independent Investigation Committee and other investigation panels for further investigation and possible prosecution."

‎According to him, in solemn demonstration of our grief, institutional remorse, and absolute disapproval of this incident, the Commandant General has ordered that the NSCDC flag be flown at half-mast across all formations for three (3) days, starting from Sunday , 20th September2026 to signal our collective mourning and our unwavering resolve to purge the system of bad eggs.

‎The PRO quoted the Commandant General who said, "as a Corps built on integrity, professionalism, discipline, and absolute respect for the rule of law, we do not condone unprofessional conduct, high-handedness, or any action that undermines the fundamental rights of citizens or the sacred trust reposed in us."

‎He pledged on behalf of the service to continue to keep the public abreast on the outcome of the investigation, adding that the leadership of the NSCDC remains unwavering in its commitment to transparency, human rights protection, and professional ethics.

NSCDC REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO THOROUGH INVESTIGATION INTO TRAGIC LOSS OF LIVES IN CUSTODY

The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, today joined the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as part of a Federal Government delegation to Minna, Niger State, to commiserate with His Excellency, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, Executive Governor of Niger State, and the Government and people of the State over the tragic loss of lives in custody.

The delegation, led by the Honourable Minister, comprised the heads of agencies under the Ministry of Interior and was received by the Niger State Government.

Receiving the delegation, Governor Bago expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the visit and the steps being taken to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. He acknowledged the proactive measures already initiated by the NSCDC under the leadership of the Commandant General, including the deployment of a high-level team to support the investigation.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to convey the Federal Government’s condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Niger State, while receiving further perspectives from the State Government on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The NSCDC, under the leadership of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, remains committed to a thorough and conclusive investigation and will provide the necessary institutional support to ensure that all relevant circumstances are properly established.

NSCDC CONSTITUTES HIGH-POWERED TEAM TO INVESTIGATE DEATHS OF SUSPECTED ILLEGAL MINERS IN NIGER STATE

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the death of some suspected illegal miners who were arrested during enforcement operations conducted in parts of Niger State on September 15 and 16, 2026.

The suspects were arrested during a coordinated operation by the Niger State Command in the M.I. Wushishi/Lukoto axis as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining and protect the nation’s natural resources.

Following the development, the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, OFR, mni, has directed the constitution of a high-powered investigative team, led by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Intelligence and Investigation, to immediately look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The team has been mandated to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances leading to the deaths, including the condition of the suspects upon arrest, their period in custody, the conditions of detention, medical attention provided, and other relevant circumstances surrounding the incident.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital, Minna, for medical examination and determination of the actual cause of death.

The Corps is also working with the relevant health authorities and sister security agencies to ensure that appropriate medical and public-health measures are taken.

The NSCDC wishes to clarify that reports attributing the deaths to any specific disease remain subject to medical and laboratory confirmation. The Corps will therefore refrain from speculation until the outcome of the medical examination is established.

The Commandant General has further directed that the health and welfare of all persons currently in custody be given utmost priority, while necessary measures are taken to protect personnel who may have had contact with the affected persons.

The Corps extends its condolences to the families of the deceased and assures them that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be thoroughly investigated and appropriately addressed based on established facts.

While the NSCDC remains resolute in its mandate to combat illegal mining and protect Nigeria’s critical national assets, the Corps also remains committed to upholding the dignity, safety and fundamental rights of every person in its custody.

Members of the public are urged to remain calm and allow the investigative and medical processes to take their course. The Corps will provide further updates as verified information becomes available.
