IFAKO-IJAIYE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN SUPPORTS TRADERS WITH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO BOOST BUSINESSES.

The Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat today, 21st August 2026, at Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Secretariat Hall, distributed financial assistance to traders across the Local Government, as part of efforts to support small businesses, strengthen livelihoods, and stimulate economic growth within the community.

The initiative, which was aimed at empowering local traders, provided beneficiaries with funds to enable them expand their businesses, increase their stock, improve their operations, and meet other immediate business needs.

Speaking during the presentation, the Executive Chairman, ably represented by the Vice Chairman Mrs Oluwatoyin Awoniyi Akerele, emphasized the importance of supporting traders and small-scale entrepreneurs, noting that vibrant local businesses contribute significantly to employment creation and the economic development of the community.

He further assured residents that his administration remains committed to programmes and initiatives that directly improve the welfare of the people and create opportunities for economic empowerment.

More so, today, the sum of 20,000,000 Naira, was disbursed to 200 beneficiaries, each person going home with the sum of 100,000 Naira. This marks the 5th and 6th edition of the UAH Renewed Hope Support Fund Program. So far, the sum of 60,000,000 Naira has been disbursed to 600 beneficiaries and promised for more.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Chairman, for the gesture, describing the financial support as timely and valuable to the growth of their businesses.

2026 ISÈSE DAY CELEBRATION

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, HON. USMAN AKANBI HAMZAT, TO THE ENTIRE PEOPLE OF IFAKO-IJAIYE

On behalf of the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government and the entire people of the community, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Usman Akanbi Hamzat, extends his warmest greetings and heartfelt wishes to all Yoruba people on the occasion of the 2026 Isèse Day Celebration.

The Chairman also extends his profound respect and highest regards to all our traditional rulers, Baales, traditional chiefs, community leaders, and custodians of culture and tradition in Ifako-Ijaiye, whose leadership and guidance continue to preserve the dignity, heritage, and cultural identity of our community.

This year’s celebration is not only an expression of our cultural identity, values, and history; it is also a reminder that our foundation as Yoruba people is deeply rooted in honour, wisdom, and rich heritage. It is an opportunity to reflect on the teachings of our elders, strengthen unity, promote tolerance and peace, preserve what belongs to us, and live together with mutual respect and good character in today's society.

Hon. Hamzat therefore calls on all residents of Ifako-Ijaiye to continue to respect the diversity of cultures and religions within our community, promote peace, and work together towards the development and progress of the Local Government.

May this year’s Isèse Day Celebration bring joy, peace, good health, and prosperity to our homes and the entire Ifako-Ijaiye community. May the blessings and wisdom of our ancestors continue to strengthen the bonds of love and unity among us.

As the Yoruba proverb says: “If we uphold our culture, our culture will uphold us.” May God grant us a prosperous and fulfilling year ahead.

IFAKO-IJAIYE LOCAL GOVERNMENT HOLDS BI-ANNUAL RETIREMENT CEREMONY IN HONOUR OF RETIREES

Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government recently held its bi-annual retirement ceremony to celebrate and honour members of staff who retired between July to December 2025, as well ass January to June 2026, after years of dedicated and meritorious service. The Executive Chairman, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, was represented at the ceremony by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oluwatoyin Akerele, who joined other council officials, colleagues, families, and well-wishers in celebrating the retirees.

The event commenced with a colourful musical procession, followed by the ceremonial introduction of the retirees, who were accompanied by their family members. The occasion provided an opportunity to appreciate their contributions to the growth and development of the Local Government and to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.

In his opening remarks, the Council Manager Mr. Tobun Olusola commended the retirees for their years of commitment, professionalism, and dedicated service to the Local Government. Other council officials also joined in celebrating the honourees, acknowledging the invaluable roles they played throughout their years of service.

As part of the programme, representatives from Custodian Life, Leadway, and other stakeholders in the insurance sector educated the retirees on pension, annuity, and insurance matters, providing useful guidance as they transition into retirement. The ceremony was rounded off with the presentation of retirement certificates and gift items to the retirees as tokens of appreciation for their years of meritorious service to Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government.

MRS. MUTIAT OYAFUNKE RETIRES IN GRAND STYLE

The Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government on Wednesday, August 12, held a colourful ceremony to mark the statutory retirement of the former HOD Agriculture and Rural Services, Mrs. Omolabake Mutiat Oyafunke

The event had in attendance the Vice Chairman Hon Mrs Toyin Akerele,Council Manager, Mr. Olushola Tobun, management team, staff, family, friends, youth groups and community leaders.

In his opening remarks,the Council Manager said the ceremony was organized to appreciate an officer who served meritoriously and to say "thank you" as she exits the service. The citation was read by her son Omogbolahan Oyafunke.

Tributes from management, staff, colleagues, National Youths of Ifako-Ijaiye, family and friends described Mrs. Oyafunke as selfless, hardworking and a mentor to many.

Mr. Idowu Esan, representing the Head of Service, described retirement as a new chapter and advised her to focus on health, family and community service. She was presented with a Certificate of Service for her diligence and leadership.
Speaking for Chairman Hon. Toyin Akerele, the Vice Chairman commended Mrs. Oyafunke for her loyalty and support to the council.
Highlights included cake cutting, prayers by Oba Ogundimu, toast, gift presentation and group photographs.

In her response, Mrs. Oyafunke thanked God, the Chairman, management and family for their support and pledged to remain active in mentoring and community development.
The Council congratulated her and wished her peace, good health and joy in retirement.

IFAKO-IJAIYE PROMOTES PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE AT THE 16TH PEACE & TRANQUILITY ANNUAL PRAYERS

The Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), FCPA, today joined religious leaders, government officials, community stakeholders, and residents at the 16th Peace & Tranquility Annual Prayers, a joint Christian and Muslim programme themed "Before and After Elections: Roles of Muslims and Christians." The event, organized by the Crescent and Cross Muslim Christian Association (CCMCA), served as a platform to pray for peaceful elections, national unity, and sustained harmony among the people of Lagos State and Nigeria. The Chairman was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Supervisors, Secretary to the Local Government, Chief of Staff, and other members of the administration.

In his remarks, Prince Hamzat emphasized the critical role of religious leaders in fostering peace and guiding society through periods of political transition. He stressed the need for continuous sensitization of elected political office holders while urging faith leaders to remain steadfast in praying for leaders and encouraging citizens to embrace tolerance, unity, and responsible participation before and after elections. Earlier, the Co-Chairman of CCMCA, Alhaji Y.A. Lasisi, commended the Executive Chairman for his unwavering support to the association over the years and appealed for sustained collaboration in advancing peace-building initiatives within the Local Government.

The programme featured insightful lectures delivered by Rev. Dr. S.M.O. Oni and Dr. Isah Tosin, who charged Christians and Muslims alike to promote peace through their words and actions, reject misinformation, respect differing opinions, and remain committed to national unity regardless of election outcomes. They encouraged citizens to pray for peaceful, free, and credible elections, participate responsibly in the democratic process, and continue supporting elected leaders in the interest of national development. The event also witnessed goodwill messages from distinguished guests and generous donations towards the association's activities, with Prince Hamzat donating ₦2 million in support of its peace-building efforts.

The 16th edition of the Peace & Tranquility Annual Prayers reaffirmed the enduring commitment of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government to religious harmony, inclusive governance, and peaceful coexistence. The Council commended the Crescent and Cross Muslim Christian Association for sustaining the initiative for sixteen consecutive years and urged residents to continue fostering mutual respect, understanding, and unity as the foundation for a more peaceful, progressive, and prosperous Ifako-Ijaiye.

IFAKO-IJAIYE LOCAL GOVERNMENT FLAGS OFF 2026 WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK WITH ROAD SENSITIZATION CAMPAIGN

In commemoration of the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week, Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, through its Health Department and in collaboration with Lagos State Health District I, officially flagged off this year’s celebration with a road sensitization campaign and health education programme held at the Ifako Primary Health Centre, Ajilete, College Road.

The Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanni Hamzat, was ably represented at the event by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akerele, who attended alongside Council Supervisors and other government officials.

The programme commenced with a road walk and public sensitization from the Council Secretariat to the Primary Health Centre, aimed at creating awareness on the importance of breastfeeding and encouraging mothers and families to embrace optimal infant feeding practices.

At the health centre, breastfeeding mothers gathered for an interactive enlightenment session where health professionals highlighted the numerous health, nutritional and developmental benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akerele urged nursing mothers to adhere to the recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life. She emphasized that exclusive breastfeeding significantly improves a child’s immunity, promotes healthy growth and development, strengthens the bond between mother and child, and reduces the risk of childhood illnesses.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Prince Usman Akanni Hamzat-led administration to promoting quality healthcare services and supporting initiatives that improve maternal and child health across the local government.

A representative at the health facility also conducted a practical demonstration on the correct breastfeeding technique, educating mothers on proper positioning and latching to ensure effective breastfeeding while preventing common breastfeeding challenges. The practical session provided mothers with the opportunity to ask questions and receive professional guidance.

The event aligned with the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” reinforcing the importance of sustained investment in breastfeeding education and support systems for healthier families and communities.

The programme concluded with a renewed call for mothers, and families to continue championing exclusive breastfeeding as a vital foundation for the healthy growth and development of every child.

IFAKO-IJAIYE LOCAL GOVERNMENT HOSTS THE PRESENTATION OF STAFF OF OFFICE TO THE ONIJU OF IJU OGUNDIMU.

The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, officially presented the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Oba Matthew Gbolahan Ogundimu, the Oniju of Iju Ogundimu, at a colourful ceremony held at the Council Hall of the Local Government Secretariat.

The ceremony, which marked the formal recognition of the monarch by the Lagos State Government, was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, and residents, reflecting the significance of the occasion to the people of Ifako-Ijaiye and Lagos State as a whole.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, congratulated the monarch on the official presentation of the Staff of Office and expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for its continued commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as vital partners in promoting peace, unity, and grassroots development.

The presentation of the Staff of Office signifies the official recognition of Oba Matthew Gbolahan Ogundimu as the Oniju of Iju Ogundimu and reinforces the enduring partnership between the Lagos State Government, the Local Government, and traditional institutions in advancing sustainable development across the state.
