One of my write ups on Readers

Welcome!

I love stories and it's because narratives can be used to design and configure one's mentality. It can also be used illuminate.

In my sophomore year, that was in 2008. I was to go for an Industrial Attachment during the holiday in a well-known construction firm in Ibadan. On getting there, the HR requested that I should be interviewed.

The interview was going on fine until the beautiful woman with her angelic voice asked me a question. She said "Surveyor Wale, how many feet makes a meter".

I was literally enjoying the fully air-conditioned room before but it seemed my body system instantaneously turned anti-AC, I started sweating.

I didn't have an idea!

My hands turned into a hand fan!

I was vibrating in English before this particular question but when a technical question about my field of study was asked. My oratory dexterity died!

My bad!

The woman asked if the AC should be increased, The woman looking angelic in my eyes immediately turned to my adversary. I couldn't cry nor laugh. "I just dey look like rice wey no boil finish" (pardon me for going pidgin).

It was so visible that I didn't know the answer.

So many people are still like this, you can speak English but lack those little but technical things in your field.

Please upgrade!

At the end of the interview, the woman told me they would get back to me and since 2008, well, you know what that means!

I was not using a browse-able phone then but when I got home, I looked at the back cover of one of those small 20 leaves exercise books and saw the answer there.

3.2808 feet= 1 metre i.e if I make 3 knitted moves with my foot and few space, it equals one metre.

I lost the interview because I didn't know my onions well enough.

Some of us complain of unemployment but the truth is that a good number of us lack the technical knowledge to handle stances when in the stream of task.

Know your onions, it helps and gives you an edge above others.

Add knowledge in every possible way.

Know anything you can learn, I have a friend on this readers platform who knows a lot.

In fact, I nicknamed him Einstein.

This same friend has been my mentor but he doesn't even know. Through him and his brother, I have started learning Python as a programming language even as a Land Surveyor.

Impossibility is a scam!

Hi folks, Let me first of all thanks those who with their perpetual concern laced with calls and chats kept telling me to come back here and for this reason I am coming out from my shell against all odds. It's been a very busy year. It has not been easy but in the words of Denzel Washington and I quote , "Ease is a greater threats to progress than hardship" and as the smooth waves don't make the best sailors, we don't expect our journeys to be easy always but one thing is sure, we ain't gon' give up, NO.

I hope you are advancing in your chosen field of study or studies.

For the first time in a very long time, welcome to Professional Tips.

I am Wale. 😁

I will be reminding us on what we already know. It's just a reminder.

YOU HAVE ACQUIRED ENOUGH.

That's my discourse this week.

let's do this.... 😄

I have found out that we are actually knowledgeable, I mean I have interacted with folks on here and it's amazing to know that we have already known enough that can give us amazing breakthroughs in life. We already have ideas, our head is full already.

We have attended several seminars and symposiums, we have acquired several certifications and trainings, we've gone to school and acquired all the certificates.

There is nothing wrong in this acquisition culture we have unconsciously found ourselves but it is at the detriment of our tomorrow that we can't do a thing with what we have acquired.
Folks, the 21st century kind of economy doesn't respond to plenty certificates and degrees. A good check on the world Billionaires is a testament to the fact that you do not need certificates as heavy as desktop computer to do what you have to do to get to where you ought to be.

Am I encouraging not to go to school? No.
Am I discouraging skill acquisition? No.
Rather, I am asking you sit down and run an intense self assessment on the little you have acquired.

What meaningful thing have you done with it?
What service have you rendered to humanity via the little you know.

Mark started Facebook in a Dormitory in Harvard.
You need to see Jeff Bezos when he started Amazon.

From my findings, I have realised that we know so much but do so little with what we know. We only yearn to know more and it's now looking like the more we know the less we do.

It's explainable.

We have refused to acknowledge the fact that most times and probably at all times, we DO NOT and I repeat, we DO NOT need to figure everything out before we start a thing.

My experience with executing ideas has taught me that ideas don't completely form or flow at the inception. Ideas seems to gather and form when you START. I mean you're never going to understand how great the little knowledge you have is until you START.
It's like a single action of striking a stick of match against the box, you don't have an idea how such action can burn down a whole community, the same thing is applicable to us all, the little we know is more than enough to get us to where we ought to be.

Most times, breakthroughs come in the process of starting, the little we acquire is not enough but more than enough to create a platform, give us a voice on this terrestrial ball only and if we can do something with it.

We are all full of wonders, don't ever lose yours.

You have acquired enough.

Do something with it.

Do something with it.

Do something with it.

You have acquired enough already.

Stop wasting God's deposits.

Let me end with the story of the Minas in the Bible.

Matthew 25, let me start from verse 24.
Matthew 25:24-30

[24]He who had received one talent also came forward, saying, Master, I knew you to be a harsh and hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you had not winnowed [the grain].

[25]So I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is your own.

[26]But his master answered him, You wicked and lazy and idle servant! Did you indeed know that I reap where I have not sowed and gather [grain] where I have not winnowed?

[27]Then you should have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received what was my own with interest.

[28]So take the talent away from him and give it to the one who has the ten talent.

[29]For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will be furnished richly so that he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away.

[30]And throw the good-for-nothing servant into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.

Are you like verse 25?

Can you read verse 27 again?

Did you read verse 28 very well?

What can you see in verse 29?

Verse 30 is a very sad event and no one want to end that way.

Choose your path.

Thanks for reading.

Feel free to ask questions.

I once again welcome you to Readers.

Have a great week.

✈🗜 *Professional Tips* ✈🗜
*I am Wale*
*STEP*
A great privilege it is to be able to write out yet another epistle capable of making you be among the two in every top three wherever you find yourself in your profession.

*Lao-tzu wrote, “The journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step”.* This quote in a way concentrated on the effect of a single step, what a single step can do. This invariably means that there is never going to be a breakthrough of a thousand league without an intentional effort of consciously taking a single step.

*Let’s log in….*

An adage says that *a ray of light doesn’t have effect if not concentrated or well focused on a spot,* that actually, is where the power lies. The effort taken to begin is definitely going to be the genesis of the whole success’ chronicles.

What do you have to do to be the world's greatest?
Take the first step! In it, the strength lies and funny enough, that is the only power you have to maximize, every other thing fully depends on it.

I can vividly count two times some opportunities eluded me because of lack of two particular skills. One, I would need someone else to teach me, the other I could as a matter of fact teach myself. But NO! I didn’t bother. I would rather tell the lady who supposed to teach me some lame excuses, and the one I could teach myself, I refused to. When the opportunity that requires those skills came and I missed it, I was livid. The problem wasn’t from God, no. It wasn’t even from my village nor satan. It was from me. I lacked that particular single step that has the capacity to deliver a thousand leagues.

There are records of 2,208 Billionaires on this Planet and joining them is never going to be unGodly.

All starts with a step, a step to learn the skills, a step to take an unadulterated decision to avoid stagnancy.

*John Haggai said, " Gather in all your resources, rally all your faculties, Marshall all your energies, focus all your capacities upon mastery of at least one field of endeavour"**

Let's not major on the minor, picking the verbs from Haggai's quote leaves us with these words:

Gather
Rally
Marshall
Focus

The above words represents the power of an act, the act of concentrating on what to do to maximize the power of a single step and decision needed in breaking boundaries to enhance going far in your chosen career.

*What one field are you unbeatable in?*

What step do you need to take today as regards learning a trade, furthering your education and being the best in your career?

*Can you spare the universe those generational excuses and take the step right now?*
I mean, pause reading now and take the step.

This is my own motivation as regards my profession: *What do I have to do to always be among the top three?* If I can answer, then, I do it or else, I'll keep missing opportunities. It's not a rocket science. It's common sense.

What many of you don't understand is that the universe has its law on us, irrespective of who you are or who you think you are, *if you don't innovate, you die.*

Innovation doesn't come by praying against death. It comes by taking an exercised step towards your own imagination and death doesn't come by not breathing, it comes by not taking steps towards your own greatness.

That's why some names can never be forgotten even after they stopped breathing.

Chinua Achebe, Isaac Newton, Obafemi Awolowo,Thomas Edison, Billy Graham.Etc.

There are also some names that are still much around but their deaths won't still disqualify them from "living", names like Tony Elumelu, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Phillip Emegwali, Mark Zuckerberg, Chris Imafidon, Askia Oghale Tessy.Etc.

All these folks didn't and don't find it easy

Let me end with some quotes from Denzel Washington:

*"Ease is a greater threat to progress than hardship"*

*“I’d be more frightened by not using whatever abilities I’d been given. I’d be more frightened by procrastination and laziness.”*

And lastly, *“Fall forward. Here’s what I mean: Reggie Jackson struck out 2,600 times in his career – the most in the history of baseball. But you don’t hear about the strikeouts. People remember the home runs. Fall forward. Thomas Edison conducted 1,000 failed experiments. Did you know that? I didn’t either – because number 1,001 was the light bulb. Fall forward. Every failed experiment is one step closer to success"*

Till next week, same day, probably same time.

I hope you're all reading, the books are mind openers.
All comments should be done as a reply to this post. Thanks.
