🏵Prologue 🏵
The two children walked hand in hand, it was a gypsy carnival, they had seen the circus perform, a funny crew of people that had made them laugh uncontrollably but there was one thing they were looking forward to,
" Eddie! Look, it's a gypsy caravan ! I bet they are real gypsies inside!! Oh Eddie, let's go have our cards read "
Eddie was the eldest, he was a smart little boy of twelve , even though thier parents had always warned them that it was badluck to know one's fortune, he couldn't bring himself to reject his sister's request, his sister, Audra was just seven, her smile was just so infectious, her golden curls bouncing behind her back as she drags her brother to the direction of the gypsy caravan .
They had attended the festival to entertain people, the two children could sing beautifully and Eddie could play the guitar so well, people had listened to them play, giving them money as well as gifts to take home for thier parents.
Although thier mother was a gypsy, she hadn't really known much about thier tradition
" Audra I.. don't think it's such a good idea, remember what mom would say if she finds out about it "
Although Audra was seven, she was far more spirited than her brother, thier mother had always said that Audra was her little bag of mischief.
" don't worry Eddie, mom is never going to find out about this, just do this for me Eddie..
Audra whined tugging on her brother's arm until he had no choice but to accept
Alzena,The old gypsy woman stared at the two little children as they stopped in front of her caravan
" kind old gypsy, we want to have our fortunes read to us"
The boy said
" remember that the cards do not lie and anything your cards read will surely come to pass"
The woman said and the children nodded gleefully
She ushered them in, the caravan smelled of incense, some were for purification while some were to ward off evil spirit
Audra couldn't stop looking around in amazement
" look Eddie, look at the tiny statue of an elephant, if we have our fortunes read, we'll be able to know what the future has in store for us, I bet you're going to be so great and you'll be a great musician like Matthew Coleman, Sylvester Tyrone and all the others "Audra chatted happily
The woman brought out a pack of cards and handed five different cards to each child
" shuffle it and give it back to me "
Eddie shuffled his first and hands it to the woman, his heart was beating fast, the smell of the incense was almost suffocating and he had the feeling that whatever this woman said would determine his whole life, the woman fixed her eyes on him and it felt like she was seeing right through him as she stared at each card and stared at him
" dear boy, your cards do not prefict anything like greatness but if you are contented with what you have, you would be alright"
Eddie's face fell, his whole dream of being a great musician were destroyed with this woman's words
While Eddie was distraught, Audra was enraged, how dare this woman speak this nonsense about her brother
," come on Eddie, you don't need to listen to this awful woman, I bet she's a fake gypsy anyway"
Audra said as she stared at the woman contemptuously, angrily throwing her shuffled cards on the floor and dragged her brother out
But as the cards fell on the floor, the woman was shocked
Impossible!
This cards only read one thing
" little girl , your cards reads greatness, you will be so great that even your brother will kneel before you and all the nations will know you "
Audra snapped her head back in shock , joy coursed through her, she would be great, she didn't see the look on her brother's face
But after that day, things changed
That same day, thier parents died
That same day, Eddie changed
Everything changed
⏳Fifteen years later ⏳
" do you know what day it is, Audra ?, it's a Saturday, remember how you used to love going out on Saturday's, you loved going to the spa with your friends, and you come back home giggling like a child, tell me Audra? What do you miss about your life "
He said before opening the locks of her cage, staring at him with the most soulless eyes in the universe, Audra Flynn turned to face her tormentor, her one and only brother Eddie
She was chained like an animal, the chains dangling from her legs and secured with a lock, her blonde hair that had once glowed brilliantly was now dull and unkept , her face that was once smooth and perfect was creased with dirt, filth was all over her
" Eddie.. Why do you keep doing this to me, Eddie.. After mom and dad died.. You promised to protect me..." she asked as the tears ran down her hollow cheeks.
Eddie and Audra were the only children of Mr Antonio and Mrs Rosalyn Flynn, their mother had been a diva and thier dad was an automobile engineer,
just like her mother and her brother, Audra too had loved music, at the age of eighteen, Audra was already making a name for herself in the Music Industry, until one day, she was twenty, she was about to receive a prestigious award as one of the rising stars in the Music Industry,she had started acting strangely, yanking her hair and hurting anyone that tries to get close to her everyone assumed she was having mental problems and she was rushed into an hospital
She had been forced to resign from her thriving music career
" Miss Flynn, I think it's best if you take a break, you have some mental instability, Mr Flynn, please take good care of your sister"
The nurse had said before placing her hand in Eddie's
" I will take care of her even more than she wishes to be taken care of "
Eddie had said but his words had contained a deeper meaning
She pushed the memories aside, With the tears still running down her face, Audra faced her brother, hoping to see a trace of warmth but she saw none.
" tommorow is the fifteenth of October, Audra, the day I would become great, you see Audra, you were right, that old gypsy woman had been lying all along, look at you, caged up like an animal, the whole world believes you're a lunatic, and look at me, a renowned musician, tomorrow I'll be signed by the the greatest Music Industry as the national treasure and you will remain nothing, Nothing!!! "
Eddie said boastfully and she felt like strangling him, why couldn't he have just killed her but she knew he had just been making sure she stays alive to witness his greatness
Her eyes went to the tiny darts that were stuck in her cage and she watched Eddie pull one out
Her face went pale with horror
Thirty one !
Thirty one darts remained
This tiny darts represents her life, each darts stands for each day, at first they were hundred but now they remained thirty one
At first she had been praying for death, eagerly awaiting the day that all the darts would be pulled out and she would die, but as she listened to Eddie boast about becoming the national treasure, everything felt unfair, she didn't deserve to die while Eddie gets to live.
Eddie stalked around her
She watched the keys to her chains dangle from Eddie's pocket and she watched in amazement as it fell right on her hands, Eddie didn't notice this and for the first time in her life she had hope
Tomorrow, Eddie wouldnt be the national treasure because she would kill him and she would kill herself.
