"What it cost." In 2016, I stood on the steps of the United States Capitol for World Vitiligo Day. Something that began in a small office in Lagos had reached Washington. I remember thinking: we did this. From a handful of people to the steps of the Capitol. This year, I was invited back by Global V...

Happy World Vitiligo Day 2026! 💜🟣
Today, June 25, we pause — not to perform awareness, but to truly see.
To see the person behind the patches.

To see the strength behind the skin.

To see the stories that have been hidden for too long.
Vitiligo is not a curse. It is not a punishment. It is not something to fix or hide or explain away.

It is part of you.
And you — all of you — are enough.
To everyone in our community today, in Nigeria, across Africa, and around the world: we see you. We celebrate you.
We stand with you.

Our stories. Our skin. Our strength. Our future.

Happy World Vitiligo Day! 💜🟣
Today, June 25, we mark sixteen years since the first World Vitiligo Day — initiated in 2010 by VITSAF founder Ogo Maduewesi from Lagos.
This day began with a Facebook post, a request to wear purple, and people across the world responding. You responded. You have always responded.

To everyone living with Vitiligo, in Nigeria, across Africa, and everywhere in the world: Your skin is not a curse.
It is not a punishment.
You are not a deviation.
You are variation.
We see you today.
