AGAIN, KOGI STATE HEALTH COMMISSIONER MEETS NCDC LABORATORY TEAM, MAKES PLAN FOR EXPANSION

Today, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu hosted a team of NCDC officials on Laboratory work expansion.

The Lab. team recently joined their members in Kogi state to access ongoing Covid-19 testing in the state and as well increase the testing capacity of the state. The lab. team shall also be upgrading the molecular laboratories across the state.

Dr Saka called for continuous cooperation of the NCDC team with the state Covid-19 response team. He also mentioned that the state has made arrangements to commence house to house testing for Covid-19 across the LGAs.
The Kogi state government has also made plans are also ongoing for the use of drones in sample collection from remote areas of the state.

COVID-19 SENSITIZATION: KOGI STATE RESPONSE TEAM MEETS THE ATTAH IGALA

Today, a delegation of the Kogi State Ministry of Health and the NCDC met the Attah Igala.
The team was received by the Attah at the palace in Idah, Kogi State.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu who was represented by the State Epidemiologist, Dr Austin Ojotule thanked the Attah for his reception and cooperation. Dr Saka briefed the Attah of the activities of the Kogi State Government and the role of Traditional rulers in the prevention, control and management of Covid-19. He encouraged the Attah to continue the local sensitization of her people and the need to observe safety guidelines.

The NCDC team lead, Dr Sebastian Yennan also outlined the activities of the NCDC and the current synergy with the Kogi state government.

In his remarks, His Royal Majesty, the Attah Igala thanked the team for their visitation. The Attah displayed the presence of facemasks in his office. In his words "we all believe that Covid-19 is real. It has ravaged well developed countries and they are finding it difficult. We are not as advanced as them, so we should take it serious". The Attah also said they have taken it upon themselves to refer people who have symptoms to Lokoja. "So far we have not had course to refer anyone", he said. "We will continue to sensitize our chiefs and people that Covid is real and everyone should stay safe".
Finally, the State Health Educator, Alh. Achekwu called for continuous sensitization of the people via the local health networks.

The Kogi State Response team also donated IEC materials, facemasks and hand sanitizers to the Attah.

EID-EL-KABIR : KOGI STATE COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH SENSITIZE RELIGIOUS AND TRANSPORT UNIONS, CALLS FOR SAFETY MEASURES DURING THE CELEBRATION

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu has sensitized and advised the Leadership of various religious bodies across the state, as well as transport unions on safety guidelines for the sallah festivities.
Dr Saka who was represented by the State Epidemiologist, Dr Austin Ojotule made this remark during a joint session organised at the ministry of Health, Lokoja. The Health Commissioner alongside the visiting NCDC team educated the religious and transport leaders on the efforts of the state government and the need to continue more awareness amongst the citizens.
"It is important that we minimise travels during the festivities and wear facemasks as we go out to celebrate.
The muslim community was also advised to observe their Eid prayers at home, wash their hands and perform ablution at their private residences".

The NCDC team lead, Dr Sebastian Yennan also emphasized on the collaborative efforts of both parties to ensure a healthy state. He urged the religious leaders to communicate their members to get tested for Covid-19 at the state centres while they work on improving the existing molecular Laboratory of Kogi state.
In their response, the union leaders thanked the state government for their efforts and urged the NCDC as well as the PTF to boost the activities of the state by their technical and material support.

The meeting was attended by the Kogi State presidential task force (PTF) Risk communication and community engagement officer, the NCDC team members, the state public health emergency operations unit.
Also present include leadership of the Council of Ulamas, Okada Riders, tricyclist association , NURTW, Maritime transport workers and CAN.

KOGI STATE MINISTRY OF HEALTH WELCOMES NCDC TEAM

The Honourable Commissioner for Health and the Kogi state Covid-19 response Squad met with members of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), who are on a special mission to the state.

The Health Commissioner, Dr Saka Haruna Audu welcomed the team to the state, and stated that their coming is a great opportunity to rekindle a robust relationship. He mentioned that the state has had a good working relationship with the NCDC. The Kogi state Commissioner for Health is the first Commissioner of Health in Nigeria to have visited the incumbent Director General of the NCDC with the entire Public Health team in Abuja. This visit, the Director General of the Centre reciprocated by the establishment of the Public Health Emergency Operation Centre in Lokoja, which was commissioned in 2018.
The Commissioner whom has in the past few weeks had discussions with the leadership of the presidential task force (PTF) and the DG NCDC that has resulted to NCDC's invitation to Kogi, noted that a lot of misinformation was widely reported in the past, but he's glad the NCDC team will see the reality themselves.
He noted that Covid-19 requires a national response, hence the need for every state to approach the situation to suit her peculiarities. He said that Kogi has been innovative in her approach, and some of her legacies have been adopted by the Federal Ministry of Health, state governments and even the NCDC.
The Commissioner also highlighted the proactive efforts of His Excellency, the Governor of Kogi state including the inauguration of a Covid-19 Squadron and funding the state response activities.
The Kogi state epidemiologist, Dr Austin Ojotule also presented a breakdown of the Kogi state Covid-19 response activities from March till date.

In their remarks, the NCDC team lead appreciated the Kogi state Government for their wonderful reception and the job done so far. He said that Kogi state is strategic and important in the activities of the NCDC. The team lead said that the lessons learned at their earlier visit to the state shows that Governor Yahaya Bello is well informed about the disease. He stated that their sole purpose of coming is to support the incident management structure of Kogi state and to set up more molecular laboratories with PCR across the state to enhance testing.

Among other things discussed at the meeting is the clarification that national response is not synonymous with federal response, and with the magnitude of challenges brought by Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria, all parties need to work to together and the peculiarities of states must reflect in these responses.
Observations were raised and discussed with the team.

The meeting was also attended by other team members of the Kogi State Incident Management Structure, the State Coordinator for WHO amongst others.
The NCDC team shall spend two weeks in the state.

Kogi State Commissioner for Health Meets AGPMPN

The Kogi State Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu met with the state chapter of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria.
The Honorable Commissioner appreciated the body for their support and cooperation with the state government in recent times.

Speaking further, the Hon. Commissioner said that the state government have activated rapid respond team to handle cases as regard Covid-19.And also, it has provided state of art medical equipment alongside requisite manpower to man them.
Dr Saka called on well meaning Nigerians, and non- Governmental Organizations to collaborate with health Agencies to curb the spread of the pandemic.

In his remark, the Chairman Private Medical Practitioner, Dr Adeyinka Amusan commended the effort of the state government and assured the state of their support and total commitment in the fight against the scourge.
Dr Adeyinka added that they have really set up their service delivery amid the scourge by attending to patients as expected.

The state epidemiologist also briefed the team on the Kogi state Covid-19 guidelines and protocols.
The Kogi state Covid-19 guidelines was distributed amongst the participants.

Also present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health, the state epidemiologist, Kogi state Coordinator for WHO, the state disease surveillance and notification team and members of Kogi state Covid-19 emergency response team.
