THE SHADOW IN THE GRASS: WHO ARE MILITARY SNIPERS? 🎯🪖🇳🇬

They don’t walk in large groups.
They don’t carry the heaviest guns.
But one bullet from them can change the outcome of an entire mission.

Meet the Snipers.

In the Nigerian military, snipers are highly trained marksmen experts in precision shooting, camouflage, patience, and observation.

They operate in silence.
They hide in the bush for hours, sometimes days, just waiting for one clear shot.
Their job isn’t just to shoot it’s to protect, gather intel, and support frontline troops from a distance.

A sniper can:
- Neutralize high-value targets
- Provide cover for ground troops
- Disrupt enemy movement
- Spot ambushes before they happen

It takes years to train a sniper. They go through intense physical and mental preparation. Not everyone qualifies only the most disciplined, focused, and calculated.

In war, fear, and chaos… they are calm, focused, and deadly.

Let’s respect their craft.
They don’t shoot for fun. They shoot so others don’t have to.

TROOPS OF OPHK THWART ISWAP ATTACK ON FOB MAIRARI, DESTROY TERRORISTS VBIEDs, LOGISTICS

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mairari, dealing a decisive blow to the group’s operational capability in the area. The assault, which began late on 12 December 2025 and continued into the early hours of 13 December, was thwarted through coordinated ground and air operations.

During the attack, terrorists attempted to breach the base using two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs). Both devices were promptly detected and neutralised by the troops, preventing any pe*******on of the base. CCTV footage and field observations confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while others sustained serious injuries as surviving elements evacuated their dead and wounded.

Following the failed assault, OPHK troops of Sector 3, supported by the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Group, Nigeria Police Crack Team, and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), conducted a thorough exploitation of the area. The operation led to the discovery of multiple terrorist casualties and the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and logistics abandoned during their retreat.

Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition, PKT rounds, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication devices, combat gear, medical supplies, and other materials indicative of sustained terrorist operations. These recoveries have further degraded the terrorists’ operational capacity and deny them freedom of action in the area.

The two neutralised VBIEDs were destroyed by OPHK defensive fire, causing damage to two points along the road. Importantly, there was no breach of the FOB, highlighting the preparedness, vigilance, and resilience of the troops.

Troops are currently conducting aggressive patrols in the area to prevent further terrorist activity and reassure local communities of the continued security presence.

Troops remain resolute in their commitment to decisively defeat all terrorist elements and restore lasting peace and stability across the North East. The failed attack at Mairari underscores the operational readiness and professionalism of our men and women in uniform.

Operation HADIN KAI continues to prioritise the protection of civilians, the disruption of terrorist networks, and the restoration of peace across the region.

TROOPS THWART MASSIVE TERRORIST NIGHT ATTACK ON CHIBOK COMMUNITIES

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully thwarted a planned midnight attack on Chibok communities in Borno State. The attack, launched by over 300 terrorists from multiple fronts, began at about 0250 hours (2:50 a.m.) today and was decisively defeated through swift intelligence, tactical manoeuvre and superior firepower by troops of 28 Task Force Brigade.

The troops, who were on alert, detected early enemy movement, enabling them to quickly assume battle positions and engage the terrorists from multiple fronts. The fierce firefight lasted for over two hours, during which the gallant soldiers held their ground firmly and prevented the terrorists from breaching the security of the adjoining towns.

The terrorists, on observing the break of day, started a disorderly withdrawal towards the Azir axis into the Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Main Supply Route Damboa–Biu. In response, 25 Brigade was tasked to occupy pre-designated ambush positions ahead of Azir Bridge to cut off and neutralize the fleeing terrorists, with guidance provided by a Nigerian Army Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI deployed a Super Tucano aircraft and as the advancing interdiction forces closed in, the terrorists dispersed. Troops subsequently disrupted their withdrawal. No personnel or equipment was lost, underscoring the high level of combat readiness, professionalism and resilience displayed by the forces involved.

While exploitation operations in and around Chibok remain ongoing, the Nigerian Army assures the public that concerted efforts are being intensified to track down escaping elements and deny them freedom of movement. The footage of the mass withdrawal of terrorists after the failed attack has been obtained and is being analyzed for further operational action.

The Nigerian Army reaffirms its relentless commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

GENERAL HAS SPOKEN

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED AS MINISTER WIKE'S CONDUCT POSES A CLEAR THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY

The events of November 11, 2025, involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, demand an immediate and serious response. His public disparagement of a uniformed officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces transcends mere misconduct; it represents a palpable threat to national security and institutional integrity.

A minister’s verbal assault on a military officer in uniform is an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the core of our nation's command and control structure. It deliberately undermines the chain of command, disrespects the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, and grievously wounds the morale of every individual who serves under the Nigerian flag. Such actions erode the very foundation of discipline upon which our national security apparatus stands.

This can not be dismissed as political theatre. It is a reckless endangerment of national order. This action by Wike is clearly an indication of undermining the federal government’s authority.

Consequently, Barrister Nyesom Wike must tender an immediate and unequivocal public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief, the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, and the specific officer whose honour was violated.

Our nation's security must come first. It is time for decisive action, not politics of military bashing. The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less.

A SOLEMN AND GLORIOUS COMMENDATION TO THE TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI

It is with great pride and heartfelt admiration that I convey my most profound gratitude and congratulations to the Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), General Officers Commanding/Sector Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Component Commanders, Commanding Officers, and every gallant officer and courageous soldier of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, all other security forces deployed in the North East, for their efforts and sacrifices in the counterinsuregncy operations and most importantly, the decisive victory recorded in thwarting and crushing multiple Boko Haram terrorists’ attacks across the theatre, specifically in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo and Katarko recently.

Indeed, the terrorists coordinated and intended assaults on troops’ positions was met with decisive and offensive response by ground troops supported by air platforms of the Air Component Command of OPHK who used their overwhelming and lethal force to neutralize a sizable number of the terrorists and the recovery of assorted arms, ammunitions and equipment.

The extraordinary and unprecedented feat and triumph is a glowing reflection of the exemplary and visionary leadership of the Theatre Commander and all the echelons of command and the supporting elements. Your courage, foresight and total commitment, exemplified by leading from the most perilous frontlines, have undoubtedly inspired the troops with unshakeable confidence, boosted their morale and reignited their fighting spirit that rekindled the resolve to take the battle directly to the terrorists.

I am personally filled with immense pride and gratitude when I saw the shattered images of the Boko Haram casualties and what you recovered from them. I therefore commend the gallant troops for their resilience, professionalism and heroic bravery in the face of grave danger. Your selfless sacrifices, patriotism and courage have once again proven that Nigeria’s strength lies in the valour of our gallant military and security forces. You have shown, through these efforts, your discipline and unity of purpose, that the spirit of the Nigerian soldier is indomitable. I urge you to sustain this victorious momentum, remain vigilant and continue to dominate the battle space until enduring peace and stability are permanently restored to the North East and beyond.

This impressive renewed vigour has also remarkably strengthened the operational synergy between the ground forces and the awe-inspiring air component, culminating in sweeping, coordinated and resounding victories on every front. It also give us hope and confidence in your ability to succeed in the counterinsurgncy efforts and the fight against banditry and kidnappings in this country.

I also wish to empathise deeply with and extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire Theatre Command, formations and units, over the loss of some of our precious and gallant colleagues who paid the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Their bravery and devotion to our beloved country shall never be forgotten. They have given their all so that others may live in peace and freedom. I pray for the peaceful repose of their noble souls and for divine comfort to their families and comrades-in-arms. To those wounded in action, I wish you a swift and complete recovery. Your sacrifices and those of your fallen comrades must never be in vain. Let these sacred sacrifices rekindle an even stronger commitment to the fight against insurgency, banditry and kidnappings until these evils are completely defeated.

To the various host communities where troops are deployed, I appeal to you from the depths of my heart to have total confidence in the capability of our troops to protect and defend you. These gallant sons and daughters of our great nation are fighting not merely for land, but for our safety, honour and way of life. Support them wholeheartedly with information, encouragement, cooperation and prayers. Your steadfast backing is not just appreciated, it is essential. Together, we can build a lasting peace founded on mutual trust and shared commitment to our collective survival and progress in our country.

In the same spirit, I call upon the Government at all levels, Federal, State and Local, to continue to support our Armed Forces. This includes ensuring superior equipment, adequate logistics, improved welfare and all critical enablers required to maintain this momentum and consolidate the victories recorded. The sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform demand nothing less than the full weight of the nation’s commitment and gratitude.

Our gallant troops, please be assured of the unceasing support, fervent prayers and solidarity of all patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians, myself included. Your latest triumph is more than a military victory; it is a national inspiration, a symbol of our collective resilience which bears eloquent testimony to the enduring spirit of Nigeria.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria deserve the highest national honour for their steadfast dedication, courage, patriotism and selfless service in defending our sovereignty and protecting our people from all threats as examlified by this recent feat and several others in the past. These troops also deserve recognitions and citations, among other honours, as morale booster. Magnificently well done, gallant heroes, onward to ultimate and total victory for our cherished nation!
