OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATIONS | YCAF MAIDUGURI 2026

Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall (BOSAGGW), in partnership with the Center for Community Awareness and Youth Empowerment Initiative (CAYEI), invites young people in Maiduguri to apply for the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) 2026.

YOUNG PEOPLE. LOCAL IDEAS. CLIMATE ACTION.
Are you 15–24 years old with a practical idea to address a climate or environmental challenge in Maiduguri?
YCAF provides microgrants of US$1,000–US$5,000 to support youth-led climate solutions.

Priority areas:
Flood & Climate Resilience • Land Restoration & Desertification • Climate Education • Sustainable Livelihoods • Clean Energy & Waste Management
Who can apply?

Youth-led teams of at least two young people aged 15–24 with practical, innovative and measurable solutions to be implemented in Maiduguri.

Celebrating Two Years of Visionary Leadership

Today marks two remarkable years of purposeful leadership, steadfast dedication, and impactful service by Amb Usman Aliyu as the Director General of the Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall.

Over the past two years, his leadership has transformed the Agency through strategic partnerships, extensive afforestation campaigns, climate change advocacy, environmental restoration, and community-driven initiatives that continue to make Borno greener and more climate-resilient.

As we celebrate this milestone, we congratulate our Director General on his outstanding achievements and pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants him greater wisdom, strength, and success as he continues to lead the Agency towards greater heights.

BOAGGW Joins Federal Ministry of Environment to Flag Off 2026 National Tree Planting Campaign in Borno

The Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall under the leadership of its Director General, Amb Usman Aliyu, joined the Borno State Governor, Federal Ministry of Environment, and key stakeholders in the flag-off of the 2026 National Tree Planting Campaign held in Maiduguri.

The event coincided with the opening of the 2026 Annual Top Management Retreat of the Federal Ministry of Environment and reaffirmed the shared commitment to environmental restoration, afforestation, and climate resilience.

The Honourable Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, commended the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, mni, for his visionary leadership in environmental protection, describing Borno as a national reference point in combating desertification and promoting sustainable land management.

He particularly applauded the state's innovative approach of integrating tree planting with clean cooking solutions, noting that providing alternatives to firewood is essential in reducing deforestation and protecting the environment.

The event also witnessed the launch of the Borno State Clean Cooking Initiative, which featured the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, refill vouchers, and clean cooking stoves to teachers and environmental vanguards. commended Governor Zulum's transformative environmental reforms.

BOAGGW, ZOA, WFP, GIZ Flag Off Tree-Planting Campaign in Bama

The Borno State Agency for the Great Green Wall in collaboration with ZOA International, the World Food Programme (WFP), GIZ, and other development partners, today flagged off a tree-planting campaign and community sensitisation programme in Bama Local Government Area.

The initiative is aimed at raising public awareness on the causes, effects, and mitigation of climate change, global warming, and desertification while promoting environmental restoration and sustainable land management.

Interestingly, shortly after the commencement of the programme, Bama was blessed with a heavy rainfall, a timely reminder of nature's significance and the importance of collective environmental stewardship.
