SETTLING OF COMMUNAL CLASHES HAVE NEVER BEEN A FUNCTION OF THE MILITARY.

-those who carried out that dastardly act must be brought to book.

It is with shock that I received the news of a full blown military operation in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue state. It is public knowledge that the Bonta people of Shangev-Tiev in Konshisha and the Ukpute people of Oju both in Benue State have been engaged in communal clashes due to boundary disputes, which the Benue State Government has set up a committee for a demarcation exercise to be carried out later this month.

While I arrived the state in the early hours of the morning, I have carefully monitored events and have reached the following conclusions;

1. That the military have never been used to resolve communal clashes.

2. That the military authorities must investigate who ordered a full military operation to be carried out where full artillery of war were used on defenceless civilians.

3. That His Excellency Governor Ortom must as a matter of urgency act fast as it was noticed that more military personnel have been drafted to the area yesterday evening. As there is need to avert futher destruction of lives and property and also violation of fundamental human rights of citizens as is customary with the army.

4. That the military must as a matter of urgency vacate Konshisha Local Government Area and allow the mobile police handle the situation hence it is the agency saddled with the responsibility to subdue internal aggression.

While the Tiv's and Igede's are brothers I urge an end to hostilities as the popular adage says "when brothers fight, a stranger inherits their properties." I urge us all to reflect on this.
I will in the coming days seek the counsel and opinions of elders and our people to see how to seek redress and attain justice.

Sankera: The People, Politics and Reality.

Sankera is the headquarters of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue state, Nigeria. It is also an umbrella body for the three local governments, Namely, Katsina/ala, Ukum, and Logo which forms a federal constituency also referred to as Sankera. The people of the district are industrious, wealthy and also enlightened. This led to the birth of a group known as Sankera Development Association (SADA) whose aims and objectives was to foster development in the district.
The people of this district are great farmers who have contributed so much in generating revenue for Benue State and Nigeria as a whole. Zaki-Biam yam market in Ukum Local Government is said to be the biggest yam market in the whole of Africa.
The District has produced notable personalities that have contributed their quota to nation building. Such notable personalities include; Senator Suemo Chia Esq, Chief Benjamin Akaii Chaha (former speaker of the House of Representatives) Senator Gabriel Suswam Esq, CON (Former Governor Benue state) Professor Torkuma Ugba (Nigeria's Ambassador to Russia), Professor Mvendaga Jibo, Professor Iorwuese Hagher, Chive Kaave Esq, Late Stephen Akiga, Late Gen Victor Malu ( fmr Chief of Army staff), Late chief Akume Atongu to metion but a few.
The District was peaceful until the return of partisan politics in 1999 which brought about struggle for political power and supremacy among individuals and power blocks. The struggle to out do one another led to the empowerment of thugs who are used for electoral purposes and dumped after elections without retrieving the dangerous weapons they are armed with. It would be fair to state that the Late Terwase Akwaza Aka Gana, Orjundu, Aondofa Tor Abaji and a host of others where at one point or another drafted into the political field to achieve certain results. With the criminal activities of the aforementioned who mobilised large followership of mostly youths terrorised the once peaceful district engaging in armed robbery, kidnappings and assassinations. The once peaceful district became desolate and a shadow of its former self. The popular Zaki-Biam yam market that once witnessed large patronage from far and wide became isolated. No thanks to the activities of miscreants.

It was in the year 2020 that the Benue State Government led by Governor Samuel Ortom granted Terwase Akwaza Aka Gana (a wanted militia) his second amnesty. On his way to finally embrace the amnesty, Gana was captured by the military at Yandev in Gboko Local Government in Benue State, taken to Nasarawa State and murdered. In a bid to make cheap political gain out of it, politicians from rival political parties and their supporters began accusing the duo of Governor Ortom and Senator Suswam as been the brain behind the ex*****on of Terwase Akwaza by the military authorities. The recent attacks on the chiarman of Katsina/Ala Local Government by bandits which left several persons dead is as a result of the bad blood planted by this politicians.
Arising from a meeting of the state security council, the State Governor Samuel Ortom announced that punitive measures have been taken to curtail reoccurring attacks and one of the measures is a temporal ban on the use of motorcycles within the district which has been key to the modus operandi of the bandits. This has not gone down well with certain persons within the region as they have complained of untold hardship. But this category of persons should be reminded that people are been killed indiscriminately, some because of unsubstantiated claims that they are giving information to security agents and others because of infighting or power tussle among blocks. Innocent people have had their families wiped out. And most times this bandits arrive on motorcycles carry out operations and disappear as quickly as they came before law enforcement agents can get to them. Regrettably those who have violated the order have had their motorcycles destroyed rather than impounded which stands condemned.
Rather than play politics with the security issue, the people of the district should assist law enforcement agents to fish out the bad eggs and be made to face the law.
If the killing spree is not abated, those who prioritise motorcycles to human lives who are today's survivals may be tomorrow's victims. Superior ideas that can cusion the untold hardship occasioned by the ban that will end in a win-win situation should be suggested to the authorities rather than baseless unconstructive criticism.
The primary purpose of government is protection of lives and property and government must do all it can within its capabilities to achieve that not minding whose ox is gored.

DEPARTMENT OF STATE SECURITY (DSS) CAN PICK ME TOO.

•Ace LAWSAN Lawmaker Reacts.

•Warns In Strong Terms That Dr Mailafia's Revelations Must Not Be Treated With Kid Gloves.

•Says Nigerians Must Speak The Truth For The Sustainability Of Democracy.

A former speaker of the Law students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) parliament Ayua David esq. has stated that he received the news of the invitation extended to Dr Obadiah MaiLafia with mixed feelings. The two time lawmaker who bared his thoughts at his Gbaya country home stated that Dr Mailafia is an elder statesman and can not go to the press if he does not have evidence to substantiate his claims. The Department of State Security (DSS) have a mandate of gathering information about security and have not acted ultra vires by handling the elder statesman and invitation but warned that he must not be bullied, blackmailed or even assassinated so as to destroy information volunteered.

The proactive lawmaker further said Nigerians must not fold their arms and watch the whole episode play out before them as that would be risky and late. "We must begin to plan now. What MaiLafia said is playing out right before us. Most of our rural areas have become inhabitable and deserted from Kurmin Mashi in Southern Kaduna to Keana and Awe in Nasarawa to Jato Aka in Benue state even down to the Forest Region of southern Nigeria which have all been taken over by gun wielding herdsmen, bandits and extremists".

Nigerians must wake up from this deep slumber and take their destiny in their own hands. "I have always maintained that human life remains sacrosanct and the primary purpose of government is to protect it. If you fight corruption, build infrastructure and beloved citizens loose their lives on a daily basis who is to benefit from the secondary purpose of government? Why must our fellow citizens develop phobia living in their own land".

If we really want a democracy we must have a voice. We must speak and continue to speak till our people are liberated. We can not be living at the mercy and pleasure of few deviants and miscreants who are chasing sectional and doctrinal agendas against collective living and humanity.

WE ARE FIRST HUMANS. NO ONE BEING DETERMINES HIS RACE, TRIBE OR RELIGION.

•Ace LAWSAN Lawmaker Reacts To The Killing Of Defenseless Nigerians.
•Calls For Resignation Of Service Chiefs.
•Says If The Federal Government Can Not Handle The Situation, It Is Time To Hand Over To An Interim Military Government.

A Former speaker of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) parliament, Ayua David esq. has condemned in totality the gruesome and brutish manner in which Nigerians are been killed on a daily basis.
The two time parliamentarian, who spoke to Francis Atume, a correspondent of New Times Magazine at his Gbaya country Home in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue state, Nigeria did not mince words in scoring the Nigerian government low in terms of security of lives and property. In his own words, “the primary purpose of government is the security of lives and property and that has been enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as Amended. The Buhari lead government has returned us to the Hobbesian state of nature where life was nasty, brutish and short.”
The ace lawmaker wondered why the president would insist on extending the tenure of the service chiefs who have not only run out of ideas but are now seemingly clueless. And their continuous retention has further frustrated the geometric career progression of others which has made them loose steam and passion for service.

Not even during the Nigerian civil war did the Nigerian Army loose the number of soldiers it has lost fighting the Insurgents. The soldiers are sons, brothers, fathers and husbands to our fellow countrymen and women. It is time to end the business aspect of the war and return them to warmth of their loved ones.

While condemning in totality the killing field in southern Kaduna, Taraba state and Benue state the lawmaker argued that if the situation was out of grasp for the Buhari led federal government, the honorable thing to do is resign and hand over to an interim military government who would consider this an act of insurrection and would not hesitate to treat it as such. He further said the persevering spirit of Nigerians has been broken as todays survivors become tomorrows victims.

FORMER SPEAKER LAW STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (LAWSAN) BARR. DAVID AYUA KICKS AS PROPRIETORS OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS MOUNT PRESSURE ON GOVERNMENT TO REOPEN SCHOOLS.

•Says call not genuine, bore out of greed and not in the best interest of Nigerian children.

A former speaker of The Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) parliament Barr. David Terver Ayua has urged the the Federal Government to remain resolute on its decision to reopen schools against the backdrop of pressure been mounted on it by proprietors of private schools in the face of Covid-19. Describing the call as insensitive, callous, and untimely.

The Mbayeh born collusus who spoke to Francis Atume, a correspondent of the New Times Newspaper in his Gbaya country home stated without mincing words that proprietors of private schools are only concerned about maximizing of profit and not the welfare of the Nigerian child.

The ace lawmaker stated that in the face of rising cases of Covid-19, it is unreasonable to place personal aggrandizement and selfish interest against collective interest.

He further stated that with the hardship occasioned by Covid-19, proprietors of private schools retrenched their workers, slashed their salaries by more than 50%, and in some cases have accumulated backlog by not paying at all. The lives of our precious kids matter a lot. They are leaders of tomorrow. They ought to be protected jealously rather than use them as gambling objects.

Adumberating further, he argued that what would have been a national disaster was averted because the Benue State University was under lock and key.

Most of our schools do not have the capacity to adhere strictly to the safety guidelines issued. It is either a school is densely populated, or the infrastructural capacity would not support social distancing. Noting that children been who they are need extra care and in a bid to maximize profit, most are understaffed.

While hailing president Buhari for promising to provide bailout funds for payment of salaries of tutors of private institutions of learning who have paid their taxes up to date, the former legislator said it will not only cushion the effect of the untold hardship brought about by the covid 19 pandemic, it will also encourage the citizens to pay their taxes and timously too. He pleaded that the president extends his olive branch to primary school teachers across the federation who have continued to suffer neglect by state governors saying their condition was not any better.

He advised that if schools must reopen for students to take their final exams they must be confined in solitary and urged parents and guardians to be vigilant over their kids and wards.

NIGERIANS DESERVE A BETTER DEAL.

By David Ayua esq.

It is unfortunate, and highly regrettable that the Lebanese Ambassador to Nigeria who was summoned to appear before the diaspora committee of the Nigerian House of Representatives on the 9th of July 2020 to give a vivid and detailed explanation on human right abuse of Nigerians domiciled in Lebanon walked out on the committee due to irreconcilable differences.

I condemn in totality the actions of the Ambassador and describe same as unacceptable. As not only does it desecrate our hallowed institution, it is also a slap on the face of Nigerians.

Fellow citizens, it would be recalled that sometimes this year the Nigerian high commission in Ghana was encroached upon. Some properties within the vicinity housing the high commission were destroyed. Under international law where sovereignty of states is recognised, every embassy or high commission is deemed to be an extension of such a country. And an attack on the embassy or high commission is an attack on such country. As such the invasion and desecration of the high commission which possessed the full attrition of war was never met with stiff resistance by the presidency to checkmate future reoccurrence.

The gross violation and abuse of human rights of Nigerians in particular around the globe is not only ridiculous it is also alarming. Even within Nigeria, Nigerians continue to be violated. There is no more pride been in possession of a green passport which now wears a red cover. As the bearer becomes a target to prey on. The act of been in possession alone makes you a suspect, which leads to harassment and violation of rights.
So many prisons around the globe have become home for Nigerians, some guilty others not.

I would therefore recommend that proactive measures be taken to forestall a decimal reoccurrence.

1. That the Lebanese ambassador be expelled from Nigeria forthwith and an apology demand from the Lebanese Government as this will make a statement and send a signal to other countries.

2. That the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mandate All Nigerian embassies to give a monthly update on the welfare of Nigeria's in their respective jurisdictions.

3. That Nigerians who are either relocating, or who seek further education or business opportunities be compelled as a matter of fact to register and identify with their various socio-cultural bodies who would be mandated to give a periodic account to the Nigerian embassy in each given country.

4. That the Nigerian government should create a department within the Ministry of Justice where lawyers would be engaged, and trained to challenge matters of human rights violation against its citizens by the government of other countries before the international court.

5. That the Federal Government of Nigeria cuts down unnecessary borrowings as this has made the country loose it's voice and dignity. This can be clearly exemplified by the recent gross violation of the rights of Nigerians in China and the pin drop silence on the part of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The days of the current government are far spent. But we hope any one coming on board in 2023 will prioritize and uphold the rights of all Nigerians irrespective of tribal and political affiliations as enshrined in Chapter 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) which states that "the primary purpose of government is the security and welfare of the people.”
