SENATOR AKUME INSPECTS FACILITIES AT GALAXY BACKBONE

Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Sen. Dr George Akume acting on the directives of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari today inspected the state of facilities at Galaxy Backbone in Abuja.

He was received during the visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Yusuf Kazaure and other management staff.

Established in 2006, Galaxy Backbone is the Information Technology and shared services provider of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

It covers a wide range of ICT services for the Nigerian Government such as building of common service platform consisting of incountry and offshore VSAT hubs, data centres and deployment of technology initiatives in government.

With Nigeria's poise to realize 100% e-governance, the Federal Government is determined to upgrade Galaxy Backbone to pursue coordinated and harmonized approach to ICT acquisition, operation and use in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government.

The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs assured that he would convey all observable challenges faced by the ICT outfit to Mr. President with expedition.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BEGINS MOVES TO MONITOR CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS, PAYMENTS OTHERS!!!

The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Senator George Akume Tuesday said that President Muhammadu Buhari has begun moves to monitor, verify and authorize all payments on constituency projects as well as evaluating the implementation of Federal Executive Council policies.

The minister said this in Lagos during the ongoing Special Retreat organised by the Federal Government, saying that the present administration has begun the process of impacting on the lives of average Nigerians and implementing the plan of lifting over one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty.

According to Senator Akume, the purpose of the retreat was to appraise key issues relating to the actualization of its key mandate and designing framework of realising the objective.

He explained that President Buhari through the ministry would monitor, verify and authorize all payments on constituency projects as well as evaluating the implementation of Federal Executive Council policies, programmes and projects by other ministries departments and agencies.

The minister described the retreat with the theme Strategies For Actualization of the Mandate for the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs as timely, saying that it would help its stakeholders achieve core mandates and facilitate sincere discussions on a matter of utmost national interest.

Jime Vs Ortom: Notice of Appeal

It is understood that Emmanuel Jime, APC team of lawyers have filed a Notice of Appeal before the Court of Appeal Makurdi Judicial Division against the judgment of Governorship EPT, delivered on 7th October, 2019.

By the development, the team has beaten the 21 days available to Jime and APC to file the notice, which is seven days earlier than expiration of lawfully stipulated time.

The appellants will take the next 10 days, pushing for the transmission of records and seven days to file briefs.

By the procedure, once the briefs are filed and served, INEC, Samuel Ortom and PDP will take five days each, to file a reply. The appellants are entitled to three days for reply on points of law after which a date will be fixed for hearing.

Ortom's lead counsel Chief ST Hon, SAN, had indicated that his client will file a cross appeal should Jime and APC appeal the decision of the Tribunal.

ONITSHA TANKER EXPLOSION: PRESIDENT BUHARI SYMPATHISES WITH VICTIMS

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of a mother and her child as a result of an oil tanker accident in Onitsha, in Anambra State.

Reacting to the incident on Wednesday, President Buhari said:

"I am profoundly touched by the sight of the charred remains of an innocent mother and her child who are victims of this tragedy."

According to the President, "I also extend my sympathies to other victims of the explosion whose houses, shops and other property were destroyed in the mishap."

The President explained that, "while I express sadness over this tragedy, I must at the same time call for urgent action on the part of those concerned to stem these frequent fatal disasters on public roads."

According to him, "safety precautions and routine maintenance are taken for granted by vehicle owners."

"I call on the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Safety Commission and other stakeholders to urgently address the issue of safety standards in the country, with a view to stemming the embarrassing frequency of these tragedies", the President added.
